iPod touch G3
While this is the iPhone blog, the iPod touch also runs the iPhone OS, and let’s face it — we love our funner cell-free cousin, so we try to cover as much crossover news as we can.
iPod touch G3, like the iPhone 3GS, is a third generation Apple mobile platform, and a great iPod, pocket computer, and game player.
The iPod touch is refreshed yearly at Apple’s annual special music events in September. The first one, iPod touch G1 (1,1), was released Sept. 5, 2007, without external speakers, volume controls, or an Email app. The Email app followed in January, 2008 (for a price!) but the externals didn’t change until Sept. 9, 2008 when Apple introduced the iPod touch G2 (2,1). Exactly a year later, Sept. 9, 2009, Apple went for the three-peat with the iPod touch G3 (3,1).
Although Apple neglected to add the “S for Speed” to the iPod touch G3, it didn’t neglect to add the speed itself, including the ARM Cortex A8 CPU, PowerVR SGX GPU, (256MB of RAM? We suspect!), and up to 64GB of storage. Voice Control and VoiceOver both join the feature set, though a camera and video recording decidedly didn’t.
