If you are the owner of a hackivated iPhone today seems to be your lucky day as Push Doctor for push notifications has arrived via Cydia. Push Doctor supplies you with true activation certificates so unlike other workarounds, certificates are always unique.

Push Doctor is completely free and can be found on the NERV repository (http://www.cmdshft.ipwn.me/apt/) which you must add in Cydia. Keep in mind you will not see any application on your Springboard as all it will do is add certificates to your device. If you do give this a try remember to be patient as the server has been getting hammered all morning and push notifications may not work right away. So if you get any sort of error on install, simply try again at a later time.

Let us know how it’s working for you in the comments below!

When Apple announced the iPad last week, TiPb’s email quickly filled up with readers and forum members who wondered if it would be possible to jailbreak it and, if so, how long it would take? First, it’s important to remember that, while we’re all excited, the iPad doesn’t even ship until March at the earliest, so it is pure speculation at this point. We do hope the likes of the iPhone Dev-Team and/or Geohot will try their hardest to get it accomplished and that it will only be a matter of time.

The good news is, unlike the iPhone, Apple is selling the iPad 3G carrier-unlocked, so there’ll be no need for redsn0w or blacksn0w. Just pop in a Micro-SIM and you can use it on any network you want.

The bad news is, Apple has really stepped up to the plate when it comes to combating the jailbreak. With their new iPhone Platform Security Manager and hardware changes and the patching of software exploits like the 24kpwn, which no longer works on the latest iPhone 3GS and iPod touch G3 models, there is no doubt in our minds it will take a good while.

So, to anyone looking to pick up a iPad and jailbreak it when it is released, we hope you have a good amount of patience.

We’d also like to know — presuming the iPad is jailbroken, which Jailbreak Apps do you most want to see ported over?

Redmond Pie has a nifty tutorial up for those who want to give their Jailbroken iPhone and/or iPod touch an iPad look-and-feel (or just a hint of iPhone 3.2!). Here’s what you need:

Winterboard
“Simple iPad Theme”
MakeItMine app
Shrink app
ProSwitcher
NYTimes app
Classics app
Kindle app

We saw the preview, but now it’s for real — GV Mobile + (2.0) for Jailbreak is available via Cydia via the ModMyI repo. Originally an App Store app before the Great Google Voice Rejection of ‘09, GV Mobile has thrived on Cydia, and the latest release shows no sign of slowing down. What’s new?

First, it costs money. The developer has worked long and hard on GV Mobile + and since he can’t rely on the App Store for income, he has to get the Jailbreak community to support him. If you like GV Mobile +, please do.

Second, it has a ton of updates:

Favorites

New tab system for Contacts, Favorites, Keypad

Landscape SMS

Call & Add Contact from SMS main view

International support for SMS (until Google blocks it)

Call, Text, & Add Contact from History

Voicemail transcriptions, new voicemail screen layout

Call, Text, & Add Contact from Voicemail

Local archiving of voicemail (doesn’t download every time)

Offline dialing (via dialing GV #)

Default Area code (for those that don’t need to dial the area code in you area)

More data sync options (Interval, Startup, Startup on demand, manual)

Multiple Accounts

User selectable tab to open to

More Google Settings : Do Not Disturb, Call Screening, Call Presentation

The core of the updates reside in the back end programming of the app – completely rebuilt from ground up.

Boy Genius scored a sneak peak of a Google Voice client, GV Mobile 2.0, which will be available in the near future on Cydia to anyone with a jailbroken iPhone. GV Mobile is an application which allows your iPhone to use all of the features that comes with Google Voice and was actually in the App Store for a short period before Apple decided to yank it along with rejecting Google’s very own application. After being pulled, the developer introduced GV Mobile to Cydia and offered up his hard work to anyone with a jailbroken iPhone.

We’ve used GV Mobile since it’s release and while it worked fairly well, it seemed clunky and buggy at times. Boy Genius is reporting that 2.0 is much more refined and polished than the previous version.

“We’re really excited to tell you about it, too. It has been polished and refined — it had an injection of features — and we love using it, even in its non-final and beta form. For starters, dialed calls connect almost instantly, your iPhone contacts and favorites are accessible right within the app, there’s voicemail transcription viewing, and even multiple Google Voice account support. Advanced features like call forwarding phones, do not disturb settings as well automatic syncing, and even Growl support are on the to-do list.”

We can only hope that Apple rethinks their decision and allow this application along with Google’s very of Google Voice application into the App Store. Until then, jailbreak away…

Ringwald’s BTstack Keyboard for Jailbreak lets your iPhone 3G or 3GS, or BT-enabled iPod touch use a Bluetooth keyboard and is now available via Cydia.

Based on the open-source BTstack project, it’s been tested on:

Ringwald’s BTstack Keyboard for Jailbreak lets your iPhone 3G or 3GS, or BT-enabled iPod touch use a Bluetooth keyboard and is now available via Cydia.

Based on the open-source BTstack project, it’s been tested on:

Apple Bluetooth keyboard

Think Outside Stowaway Universal keyboard

Palm Wireless keyboard

But should work on any similarly functioning device, and the status for iPhone 2G appears to still be up in the air.

Until Apple sees fit to add their own BT driver (and the HID, Human Interface Device profile) for their own BT keyboard, this is another area only Jailbreak can fill. So, as always, if you try it out, let us know how it works for you. Preferably, let us know while typing on your iPhone via a BT keyboard!

If you’re Jailbroken yet still frustrated that you can’t move between iPhone apps as easily as you can web pages in Safari (or Palm webOS users can in card view), ProSwitcher [Free beta - Cydia] is something to consider.

A front end to Backgrounder, which enables multitasking on a Jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch, duplicates the “Pages” metaphor in MobileSafari, including swipe-able switching and X-icon closing, and for good measure adds in the swipe-up-to-close gesture from Palm’s webOS “Cards” interface.

ProSwitcher is currently in free beta and available via Cydia at http://booleanmagic.com/repo. If you try it out, let us know how it works for you, and how badly you think Apple better add this in to iPhone 4.0!
