iHound GPS Tracker for iPhone — TiPb @ CES 2010
iHound [$2.99 - iTunes link] is an app that, if you lose your iPhone, will let you send it a message and then track it down via GPS. Sounds familiar, maybe, but it’s been around longer and doesn’t need a MobileMe account. The Cell Phone Junkie, Mickey Papillion talks me through it in the video below.

I like it.
I don’t have a Mobile Me account (and don’t want one), and have never lost/forgotten my phone, but 2.99 is cheap insurance.
Would it work with an iPhone without a data plan?
this must be a feature“s iphone not an application aditional
This looks like a good cheaper alternative to MobileMe; however, it’s lacking key features like passcode lock and remote wipe. If you need that level of security your best bet is still MobileMe.
One reason to jailbreak your iPhone…Cylay. $20 dollar a year. All the options of MobileMe and more.
Does anyone know how much the subscription to this service costs? Also, their sign up page is not encrypted ><
Quote from their terms and conditions:
iHound Software offers a free six month trial for their online proprietary monitoring service. You will NOT be charged during this trial period, but you are required to sign up for a recurring billing subscription through PayPal in order to use the tracking service during the free trial period. Following the trial period, you will be charged $9.99 each year until such time that you cancel the subscription through your PayPal account. If you cancel your service once you have been billed for your yearly subscription, no refund will be issued for that period, but you will not be billed for the following year. As an example, if you purchased iHound Software from the App store on March 1st, your trial period would end on August 31st and then you will be billed on September 1st $9.99. If you canceled on July 1st you would incur no charges, however if you cancel the service on September 2nd, you would incur the $9.99 charge for the 2009-2010 period ending on September 1st 2010. In the same scenario, if you did not cancel your subscription you would be charged an additional $9.99 on for the 2010-2011 period. Termination of service occurs immediately upon cancellation of your PayPal subscription.
This should honestly be apart of the OS in 4.0, it’s retarded no one offers insurance on these phone including ATT but they they want you to pay 100 a year for mobile me. And then thanks to icebike we see this is just another Jew system.

I’m Jewish. You’re an offensive schmuck.
Jailbreak and use longitude. You can hide the icon and it always runs in the background even after a reboot. No need to trick someone into opening an app. I think it’s 1.99
I was going to post about Longitude but Banjofritz beat me to it. Works great with Google Latitude. Even keeps history of your locations if so desired. $1.99 one-time fee. It doesn’t have a fancy car alarm but it tracks your phone 24/7 without anybody doing anything.
Best buy offers a geek squad insurance for the iPhone. It even covers if you accidentaly brake it, and it covers it for something wrong. And many more, the plan is really amazing. The only problem is, it’s $15.00 a month. Yeah! I’d just keep mine in a heavy duty case (:
So what if you use a lock-code on your phone? Will it then still open the tracking program and the spoof screen?
If u want insurance. Here http://www.safeware.com/Products/MobileAdvantage.aspx
Not as good as MobileMe! With iHound someone has to actually swipe the phone open for it to be tracked, with MobileMe it does not. MobilMe is the best of the best with most everything included and well worth the price.
iLocalis for Jailbreaked phones is a great choice. I use it to track all my household iPhones.
I’ve jailbroken my 3G twice using Geohot’s method. Both times it bricked my phone–non recoverable. For some reason the Apple store replaced both phones since I was still inside the warranty window.
Others do it entirely without subscription costs.
Take e.g. FoundMe (http://www.foundme-app.com/) which is a WALLPAPER labeler app and a TRACK-BY-PUSH app for currently $1.99. Registration and use to the website from where the push messages are delivered and the location is shown on a map is included.
Why not try apples Find My Iphone?
It is really good, and not expensive too.
We all dislike insurance firms, but wherever would we be without them.
