AT&T vs. Verizon — Turns Out There’s No Lawsuit for That!
According to Business Insider, both AT&T and Verizon have decided to drop the lawsuits over Verizon’s hilarious controversial “Map for That” commercials. AT&T believed the commercials to be misleading, splitting hairs about 2.5G EDGE coverage and 3G HSPA, while Verizon believed the truth hurt (ouch).
Since the judge rejected AT&T’s request for an injunction, and Verizon will be continuing to air the ads, we’re guessing we know who blinked here… (And also guessing Luke Wilson and Apple will continue to fire back…)
(Insert canned soap opera music here!)

Verizon may be getting to AT&T now but AT&T smoked them when they took the iPhone, Verizon is just sore and wants some of those customers back. I guess we will see in the future who makes good decisions.

Both are retards!! ’nuff said.
December 3rd, 2009 at 4:07 pm
AT&T deserves it. Love my iPhone but they need to spend that marketing money on improving their network.
December 3rd, 2009 at 4:25 pm
‘Tis the season!
December 3rd, 2009 at 5:19 pm
I don’t think Verizon gives a dump about the iphone.
December 3rd, 2009 at 6:00 pm
I called AT&T about bad coverage on my iPhone and they told me to turn off my 3G so I don’t drop as many calls. This said after they spent how much money saying their 3G network is better. Come AT&T you can do better than that
December 3rd, 2009 at 6:07 pm
I like the Luke ads, but I’d rather ATT plow the money into build-outs.
I’ve heard that LTE will just be a bolt-on upgrade to their existing 3G/UMTS service, since it can use the same radios, but first you have to have the 3G.
Meanwhile, The FCC is starting to lay the ground work for the eventual demise of All Carriers: http://tinyurl.com/yj3gmgf by beginning the planning to switch to an ALL IP network.
This plays RIGHT INTO GOOGLE’s HANDS, and suddenly it appears Google Voice has the “Vision thing” going on in spades. Is that why Apple wants the big Data Center?
Dumb Pipes !!!

I knew at&t’s argument sounded a lil fishy. I remember thinkin “can you really sue for that?”
and to socon_jon… I think any phone company would be happy to carry the iPhone. according to 3rd quarter financial reports, the iPhone has made Apple the most profitable cellphone company. in 3years Apple went from not existing in the industry to being the leading company in the industry, thanks to their one device.
December 3rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
sure you can sue for that, if it was hurting their reputation or businesss.
But im not surprised it probably wasnt worth all the time and effort while the VZW ads continued to run. Glad to see them hitting back with the voice+data ads.
VZW is just jelous they didnt get the iphone and not one of theur phones can sell near what ATT sells in iphones even in ONE quarter. Bet theyre kicking themselves in the a** pretty hard now.
December 3rd, 2009 at 7:40 pm
AT&T needs to steal Cathrine Zeta Jones to do their commercials, Luke Wilson does not keep my attention at all.
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:00 pm
@ Brian… When did *** t and t smoke verizon with the I phone? sure a lot of people jumped ship but they still didn’t have more customers or a better network. And now Verizon is pumping out phones left and right.

g ay t and t
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Verizon for the win. He shoots. He scores!
Sure they’d like iPhone but they are not loosing any sleep over it. It’s just one phone.
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Yea, I doubt VZW is losing any sleep over the iPhone. But now that VZW has a legit dog in the fight with the droid, maybe AT&T and Apple will get off their asses and make the iPhone to it’s full potential and get it some 3G coverage. If AT&T fixed it’s coverage they wouldn’t have to cry about the map commercials and VZW would start sweating a little
December 3rd, 2009 at 11:49 pm
“G ay t and t”. Wow you’re about as ignorant as they come. But I guess if ignorance Is bliss you should be on cloud nine right? You’re a tool.
And where the eff do you people live that you have poor coverage? I’m always a full 5 bars and have never once dropped a call, no matter if I’m in a basement, tunnel, hiking trail, or walk-in freezer. Maybe try a city instead of a farm an you’ll have better luck with service.

Not switching ever to verizon. I’ll use rock phones if verizon was my only alternet choice.
December 4th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Sorry Patt B, they did smoke them with the iPhone. Yes Verizon is pumping out phones hoping they can find the iPhone killer, they are tired of losing customers so that is why they started showing AT&T’s weakness. I’m not saying they won’t find a iPhone killer, but not yet it will be more than a year before someone will hurt the iPhone. Most normal users don’t care about this cr@p. Tweet, email, text and surf =’s happy campers.
And yes Tim they were losing sleep, that one phone was becoming a thorn in their side but google is helping them out now. And no Verizon didn’t score yet because I’m happy with my iPhone, I think they will score though, they will push Apple to make a better iPhone and that will be points.
December 4th, 2009 at 1:45 am
@ clevelander I love my iPhone and I am in the NYC area and I too get 5 bars all of the time but my 5 bars drops about 1 in 10 calls at some point of the call. Interesting segway does anyone have a clue why the few times I have 1-2 bars I have never dropped a call in 2 1/2 years?
December 4th, 2009 at 1:52 am
Verizon BOOOO!!! AT&T very Good!!
December 4th, 2009 at 4:06 am
Every major company has dedicated marketing budgets so drop all this “AT&T needs to focus it budget for buildouts and better coverage” they are building out when available. You can’t just drop towers any ole place. It requires planning, and ok’d by the local city governments. Companies will build towers as fast as placement allows. Also it’s interesting that there is this huge verizon push when both will be going GSM based LTE in a year or so. What then? All those “iPhone killer droids” (sarcasm) will be paperweights. And at least AT&T doesn’t bend you over should you want to leave with rediculous cancellation charges. AT&T at least gives you a credit monthly for each month you use them. So who’s the real company affraid of losing business? Verizon. Point blank. Highest of all cancellation charges with no credit for past service. Proprietary apps and charges for said apps. And the first company to initiate attack methods for advertising purposes.

Is it just me or does ATTs coverage get smaller and smaller every ad?
December 4th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
AT&Ts coverage isn’t getting smaller, just weaker. The quickest way to sort this out is give Verizon the iPhone and watch their network crumple under the strain of millions of new high-bandwidth users! They should have AT&T’s problems! As far as I can tell, allof these recent ads from both sides are misleading – but at least they’re humorous.
December 4th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
I don’t get the Luke commercial that shows the VZW map, mentions the VZW map “falling apart” – then bashes VZW phones. What do the functions of the phones have to do with the VZW coverage map???
December 8th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
I say at&t is better the at&t actually does have a lot of coverage over the country verizon is wrong the at&t also have iphone and itouch but verizon came back har with the droid eris which can also run multiple apps i say it is a draw so far.

Bottom line is ATT need to stop advertizing period. They sell more bars in more places and have less in fewer. THe service sucks, drops calls, and is generally slow, and I live in SFO. I was really pissed off when I had no service righ in front of one of the billboards. FU ATT
