The DROID Invasion Has Begun…!
A new, phantom menace emerges today in the iPhone world. Verizon’s massive network has opened their drop-bays, and the DROID invasion has begun. Android Central is providing Generally Grievous-level coverage, while SPE’s own Darth Tyranus, editor-in-chief Dieter Bohn deployed at 5 am to find… no line ups, but hopefully a lot of new gadgets to power his darkside.
Nokia Expert’s Matt Miller is concerned about Verizon’s pricing, as is PreCentral.net’s Keith Newman, at least compared to Sprint, though he seems happy enough with the device itself. Malatesta from WMExperts… is still nonplussed. CrackBerry Kevin of CrackBerry.com? He’s busy with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Curve 8530 launches. (He loves his berries. A lot.) And TiPb, well you know where to find our coverage so far.
If you get a chance to try out a DROID or DROID Eris this weekend, let us know what you think!

I thought this blog was only about iPhones, that’s what all the Apple haters say when there is a story about Apple on this blog. What’s going on here this is a invasion of iPhone space. Come on Rene, do the headline, I don’t do Droid.
Just having fun!!!! enjoy your Droids you fanboy bashers. I am a little jealous today, it’s nice getting a new toy. Come on Apple step up the game now.

Competition is always great. Wishing the Droid Much success. It has to make the iPhone even better for the 4th gen which happens to be the next upgrade I am eligable for.

Change
November 6th, 2009 at 10:21 am
Good Luck Lil Droidie thing! Plenty of room for everyone here. I do worry that you will be the blackberry killer…
November 6th, 2009 at 10:31 am
this should make ATT and Apple improve service/phone…..but I think the big question is still….”what happens if Verizon picks up the iPhone?”
November 6th, 2009 at 10:43 am
If Verizon does get their hands on the iPhone then there will be BIG problems for AT&T. The majority of iPhone users always complain about the “network”, I myself live in NYC and I am pleased with my current network. However that is not the case nationwide, Verizon having the best Droid phone and having the iPhone available will be a drastic reduction to AT&T revenue.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:50 am
@ Mike…. Right on!!!! The best the droid is the better for us…
November 6th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Yes, competition is great & just what AT&T/Apple need to keep them pushing the envelope. Also, I hope the Droid will do very well & let Verizon experience the same bandwidth-hogging pains that AT&T has since the iPhone launch! Best network? If Droid is anywhere close to iPhone’s success, get ready for a change…

I love my iPhone but picked up my Droid the morning and have been playing with it for about an hour. So far I really like it. Google nav is sweet, it has Slacker Radio app (a must for me), setup my Exchange account with no issues. Gotta say if there is a device that will get me to switch, this one may be it.

…and just like last year around this time, this is NOT change I can believe in.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
Anyone know why windows mobile is on the face of the iPhone??????
November 6th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
That’s not the iPhone. That’s the other phone verizon launched today. It’s an htc.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
Move over G1 there’s an uglier phone in town.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
Competition is good
November 6th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
The droid looks really great in terms of screen size and resolution and even the specs, but I feel like most people are so committed to iPhone via apps etc that switching would be difficult for anybody. I’d personally rather have no physical keyboard, but yeah I guess some people must like it.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
You wanna see a good phone. Leaving the iPhone out of this. HD2 or even the Sony X10 both phones will run circles around the “Dung”
if Verizon announced the HD2 today, Ive had all of the iPhones. I would be gone myself. But as sad as it is. It looks to be going to T-Mobile.

god that thing is fugly!!
November 6th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
anyone know someone that got one and tried it out?
November 6th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
I already read 3 stores in New York city have over 100 phones available in each store. And there isn’t a line at any of the stores.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
@gregg I was at a mall in my area this morning which has the biggest verizon store in the town and there was 10 people in line. WOW When I got my first iphone at one of the att stores in my town in ‘07 there were over 200. And they sold out. So I had to go to the apple store in the same mall as the verizon store and the line was out the mall doors and in the street. sick So its either a palm pre turn out or alot of people are ordering online . If anybody is looking for one there are plenty on ebay. lol I’ll pass. Can’t wait to see what Mr. Ive has up his sleeve for the 4th.

So I just came from Roosevelt field mall (busiest mall in long island) and there was 1 person looking at the Droid. After hearing about this phone and all the hype I HAD to check it out. I must say, the Internet is fast and that’s about it. The droid is IN NO WAY an iPhone. The UI of an iPhone blows the droid away and while yes the droid allows for different functionality it’s still in NO WAY AN iPhone.
I encourage all of you to go play with one. You will see, after 2 minutes you will be begging for your iPhone back.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
**** the droid!!!!! iPhone rules, can’t wait till next year for 4 g iPhone. I was alittle worried about the new droid phone, but if droid converts leave the iPhone then it’s good for the folks who stayed. Rumors will start flying once this droid hype is over. Need some inside info on next iPhone. Ugggh it’s killing me!!!!! Lol
November 6th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
The Droid keyboard sucks.
November 6th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Yeah it’s a pos for sure. Like I said. Bring the HD2 and the X10. Then we can talk. Verizon is offering up one of their biggest phones at a time when CDMA has almost cone to an end. I don’t get it!
November 6th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
It would B great If people would switch over to verizon for the Driod. Maybe AT&T would lower there price On iPhone plan, since I get great service with AT&T in DC I would make out, Wishful thinking anway….
November 6th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
avoid the droid
November 6th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
I want the Droid as bad as I want a hemroid!!! iPhone ROCKS!!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
I got my Moto Droid this morning and have been playing with it ALL DAY! I LOVE IT! hehe. I have friends who have iPhones but I never jumped on that bandwagon on account of having a Verizon account for the past 5+ years AND at&t doesn’t work at my house at all (a friend of mine’s iphone goes into singing paperweight mode at my house) so in comparisson I can not say which is better, nor do I care. I care that the Droid is on Verizon and so now I have a really awesome phone. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on the camera but to me the camera is exceptional and the pictures look beautiful! I only had two minor pet peeves so far; 1 is if you get the hard shell protector thingy it makes the slider to get to the actual keyboard kinda rough, not a huge deal for me, but may bother some people. Then to set a custom notification ringtone it took me awhile to figure out I needed a folder on my sdcard called notification (otherwords it just shows up in ringtones) again not a huge deal once figured out but it bothered me for a bit. Other than that I have just been excited and wondering how I ever lived without one! My poor blackberry looks all old and rusty now hehe
November 6th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
i’m going to go check it out tonight….who knows…..it may be worth playing with AT the store…..
November 7th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Hey where the hell is Fastlane?
November 7th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Hey Jamie,
in regards to the notification on the SD Card…how exactly does one set that up?
Thanks in advance.
