iPhone 3G/3GS Unlock Tool blacksn0w is Now Live!
For those of you who have been patiently waiting to unlock your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS currently on the 3.1.2 software, today is your lucky sn0w day as blacksn0w has been released one day ahead of schedule. It was just 3 days ago that iPhone hacker, George Hotz, announced via his Twitter account that he had found an exploit to unlock any iPhone with the 5.11.77 radio baseband.
blacksn0w is the unlock for the latest 05.11.07 baseband, and will also enable official tethering. blackra1n, a jailbreak for 3.1.2, has been updated to RC3, with hacktivation support, 15 second speed improvement, Tiger+PPC support, and installation of the latest blackra1n.app.

Well here in the US of A, it’s either ATT Wireless or TMobile. I’m happy with ATT so far. But I wouldn’t mind jailbreaking it again.

The unlock/jailbreak worked great the only thing I’m unable to find any wifi networks. The problem started after I installed something from cydia…I cleared network settings but it didn’t fix anything.

I just did it, and I’m using a Union Wireless SIM card, in this area they have a freakin-schweet 3G network in the Colorado/Wyoming region.

@Ray – Check you Netowork Settings page. The Tethering Option should be available but you have to enable it to use it.

I unlocked/jailbroke my iPhone 3GS. Everything seemed to have worked well then noticed my wifi signal was gone as well. I reset my network settings, now everything is back to normal…phew! I hope jailbreaking doesn’t cause me more problems in the future. I wreck my 1st Gen iPod Touch when I jailbroke it (it kept freezing on me and no amount of restoring fixed it).

I have a wifi problem too. Resetting network settings solves it until I reboot. Then the problem returns and is only solved by resetting network settings. Anyone come up with a proper solution? I’ve jailbroken and unlocked a 3GS with latest firmware, bb etc.

I am having trouble with the wifi and email. It keeps telling me to go to settings and enter my password, which I do, but when I close settings it wipes out my passwords? Also the wifi isn’t finding any available networks. THe whole wifi button is inactive? I was also fine until I downloaded something from Cydia. Never had a problem before until the Rock was installed with Cydia.

After the unlock, the iphone froze. I restarted it and it took it 5 minutes to reboot. I actually had to restart it several times, as it was going in a loop at the apple boot logo. Then my Wi-Fi was gone, same as some users reported. Resetting the network settings did nothing, same very long reboot process. The interesting part is that after it booted up, the WiFi was actually grayed out in the settings menu. Doing a compete restore now in itunes. Screw this unlocking ****.

HI! I just unlocked my Iphone with this blacksn0w… AND NOW the 3G network DONT work… the Wifi does.
It say, “COULD NOT ACTIVATE CELLULAR DATA NETWORK” and a have tried to reboot the networks settings and stuff.. AND even deleted the Blacksn0w thing, so it turned to “normal” and without the unlock..

Have jailbroken and unlocked my 16GB 3G for the first time. Went exactly as planned and am now exploring jailbroken apps… The only potential concern is that I have had to reconnect to my home wifi network several times, but as I have new router it may not be an iphone problem.

Ah, fixed by problem by rebooting the iPhone, and then manually turning off and on my wifi, and then i can see my network.

To those who are having trouble with connecting to a WiFi network after using blackra1n – go to Settings>General>Reset and select “Reset Network Settings”.
This fixed the problem for me and plenty of others!

Here is the fix for wifi problems. here is what I did. All I did was open up cydia and added the cydia.iphoneil.net repository. Then I installed push fix rebooted my phone and everything worked perfectly including my wifi.

if you have 3gs , don’t try to do “reset all setting” in setting.
If your iphone not JB, it is ok
but if your 3gs was JB, the iphone will stuck at apple logo.
I test on my 3gs 4 times, same thing

Just google on your pc, it’ll show you alot of link to download firmware already custom ( just update iphone don’t touch baseband)
use itunes to restore ( after retore your iphone is jb and cydia installed)
add source http://www.blackra1n.com to cydia and install blacksn0w i like restore custom firmware already jb it is safer than restore iphone by itunes and then use blackra1n to jb

Have the same wifi problem, Iphone 3GS, I did a reset network settings and ended up with a greyed out wifi button. Everything was working ok until when i switched my phone off and on. (after installing openssh and terminal server. not sure if it has anything to do with anything.
rebooted it again and it’s now stuck on apple logo (10 mins and counting) Might just do a retore on itunes.

I have a 3gs with the updated firmware. When I tried to jailbreak it. I had a white screen…. and that f’d my phone up pretty good. Luckily I was able to restore it…. I jailbroke my 1st gen as a ginny pig, worked great! You never know…. Always do it at your own risk. I’m definitely not doing that again with my 3gs.

Just had the same wifi problem. I uninstalled swirlymms trial using that new rock app, when it rebooted I had lost my wifi and all data network connections… Luckily the reset network settings fixed the wifi and I manually entered my data network info to get back on tmobile. Using unlocked & jailbroken 3gs
anyone think this rock app might have something to do with it? I’m kinda thinking I should just get rid of it

I don’t think it’s Rock. I think it’s the jail break causing all of these issues. I had a brand new 3G (1 day old/nothing on it) and it grayed out the WiFi as soon as blackrain was done.
I reset, restored, reset network settings, etc, etc for hours and hours and it did nothing. Something is wrong with this patch.

that is exactly correct, i have been through so much and really over it. i don’t want to give up on it because i know that their is a solution.
my problem was this…
i installed cydia through blackra1n but the stupid me uninstalled it because i was very cautious with installing… from that moment on i have had to restore, i have had to disable all virus applications on my computer to basically restore it the proper way was itunes was not recognising my phone… after several attempts i thought ill give it a try again, install blackra1n on my pc and got stuck on recovery mode, the itunes/usb picture just overpowered and wouldn’t allow me to do anything not even a hard re-boot once again i had to disable all virus applications on my PC and restore.
any ideas how this can be solved? even though i uninstalled cydia… and deleted blackra1n (some sites say its fine to delete after installing cydia) im assuming that it shouldn’t be a problem… but it seems like it is as its not allowing me to install it anywhere, and i cant even install the installer.app.

I have 3G that I jb / unlocked through blackra1n /cydia process so it’s now on 3.1 and baseband 5.11.77 using Tmobile Sim. It was working ok but is now completely frozen on start up screen. The iphone 16gb is not installed on my itunes, so when i go to blackrain it, the cool picture pops up fine then reboots. BUT then the pass code screen pops up and im back to square one. Trying to get pass the passcode, anybody got any suggestions??

Unlocked 3.1.2 with Blackra1n, but ran into a stumbling block when wifi didn’t work. My wifi was iffy with 3.0, so I thought going to 3.1.2 would do it. Nope. Nothing worked to get it back – nothing. Full restore, pushing every button, reseting network, you name it.
Out of desperation, I put it in the freezer. I had read that a couple times. Just couldn’t believe it would work. Checked it 10 minutes later – wifi was working again. No kidding. Quickly while still cold I finished the unlock through Blackra1n. Within an hour or so wifi went back to completely unreliable. But for a while when ice cold worked great.
Got to be one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen work.

Just to add that my WIFI disappeared after eventually downloading the OPENSSL file that the “rock APP” said I had to download, I dont know if it was to blame or just coincidence!!!

I jailbroke my 3G with blackra1n for the first time. It worked great, no problems at all. Don’t like the idea of it voiding my warranty though. After going through 7 iPhones in the last 2 years I’ve come to rely pretty heavily on that warranty. I’ll we weighing the cost/benefit ratio over the next couple weeks to see if I think it’s really worth staying jailbroken. Right now I’m leaning towards restoring though. Backgrounder, 5 icon dock, themes, and tethering are pretty cool but I’ve lived without them for so long I think I’ll survive.

I solved the wifi problem by removing from cydia the following programs: Mobile Terminal and VoIPover3G.I then Rebooted and voila wifi works fine. Good Luck piXie

Hey guy had same problem, JB and wifi and everything lost. felt like a bird without wings. But then i entered my providers supportsite. (http://www.onecall.no/kundeservice/iphoneoppsett.php). It gave back wifi to me!!! Dont know if it works on yours but it did on mine. Remember to turn on wifi else the mobilenetwork will be usef (and eat megabytes from your account). Do this on own resposiblillity.

My issues with T mobile – T zone plan
1) bought Iphone 3g factory reset from other seller..basband 5.11.7, and iphone os version 3.1 2) Use blcakra1n to jailbreak and unlock..everything went smoot with windows vista.. 3) Try Tmobile simcard. use apc.tombile.com as APN and email, wifi and internet work perfect. 5) When I connect this on my “Imac”- It asked if I want to restore with “ipod touch” back up. 6) I select yes..restore with pics, notes,preference went smoot. but none of my apps was there.. 7) I make sure that that phone has correct APN settings..,phone is still unlocked, incoming/outgoing call from t mobile work fine…
BUT internet, email DO NOT WORK… Error “could not activate Cellular data network .. you are not subscribed to a cellular data network”..
I try resetting network settings multiple time… Still not working.. Help Appreciated in advance

FYI – if you have a new 3GS (bought in the last month) you will need to run blackra1n every time your reboot (google tethered jailbreak)
But, i had a problem after unlocking and resetting my network settings (to try to fix the wifi) that blackra1n wouldn’t work and i had to do a full restore from itunes. Anyone else see this (or another website that has this problem posted?)

Yes there seems to be a bug in the iPhone 3gs 3.1.2,i had the same problem,no wifi-stuck in recovery when you turn on,but this works perfectly on iPhone 3g 3.1.2. I guess we will have to wait till geohot fixes the bugs,as for those stuck in recovery,you don’t need to restoe again,just click the make it ra1n again to kick out of recovery

Hi all! i have finally got my wi-fi working after reseting the network settings on 3gs. i have used myself maked ispw 3.1.2 firmware. now i got only one issue. my 3gs takes about 1min to boot after reset network settings. is it normal? *** i remember on 3.0 firmware phone takes only 19-21s to boot up.

Attention to 3GS owners with boot issue
After a search around the web before with the same boot issue myself found out that having to connect to get out of recovery mode is a feature.
Just to make that clear the iPhone is soposed to enter recovery mode every time.

is there a fix for the 3GS boot issue? I have the same problem as Dave & Fallen – when I shut it off and turn it on, all i see is the apple logo. If anyone has a solution for this I’d be happy to hear.

hello! i have an iphone 3G already jail broken. today, i updated it to 3.1.2 and downloaded blackra1n. My iphone can’t find any wifi networks therefore i can’t download blacksn0w and use my iphone as a cellphone since i’m not a AT&T user. Any suggestions? Thanks

Works Great! I turned off my Antivirus & my Firewall settings. Plug my iPhone 3GS, ran Blackrain. After I rebooted the phone by turning it off & on. Then downloaded BlackSnow. I rebooted again. Then rock, I rebooted again, then Cydia. and rebooted again. EVERYTHING wORKS GREAT! REbOOT AFTER EACH THING….

Hi,
I have a iPhone 3gs 3.1.2 firmware.
I have the problem when unlocking to all providers. When rebooting it comes up in recovery mode.
I can pass this stage by connecting to the laptop and running blackra1n but this fix is a bit too long winded especially if I haven’t got my laptop with me.
Is there a fix for this?

I have a 3GS without the boot problem but black snow didn’t unlock it. When my tmobile sim is in it says “searching…” the “no service”. Does any one know how to fix it or can explain why this happened?

Ok for all the people having problems turning off after jailbreaking it and coming up in recovery mode. It’s because you got a brand new Iphone. The new series of Iphone with the serial number being 94 instead of 93 and below will have this issue. I have been looking for a solution but have not found one yet. For now you got to make sure you don’t lose power. Also if you do run out of power or have to reboot you do not have to restore it, just make it rain again and you will be back to where you were before you rebooted, but unfortuanitly for now you will need to use a PC to bring it back to life.

To shagee, it’s not only a problem with the 3gs, I’ve got a 3g and it only happens after I install blacksnow.
Had my phone jailbreak with blackrain for a few days without unlocking with blacksnow, phone works fine until I installed blacksnow. I get “No Service” and a pop up message saying “Restore Needed”. Tried to boot my device and I got into recovery mode. Can anyone help me with this?

I hv this iphone 3gs unlocked outside USA and I have Blackra1n app on it, and I see cydia, rock,sn0w on it so if install cydia on it will it lock my phone or will anything happen to the phone ? Will I still be able to sync with itunes on it ? Need advise.

Thanks for the clear responses regarding the tethered jailbreak of the new model iphone 3Gs. We in this situation are seemingly stuck- unless of course we could find a way to jailbreak on a downgraded firmware- though I am not sure if that is possible now for my phone- Spent a bunch of hourse yesterday trying to restore it via Itunes 8 but evidently itunes 8 did not want to accept my phone… now more problems to google. I guess we have to wait for Geo or some others to see if there is a way around the reboot loop because ON TOP of the fact that the phone cant die on us or be allowed to have a system crash (different from a springboard crash) whenever a program requires a reboot- it cant be installed… unless i am missing something.. Thats the part I am really bothered by at least now.
If anyone finds a solution before i do for this problem- PLEASE post it!!! Many of us with this 3Gs problem would appreciate it thoroughly!

i have the same problem,if my phone goes flat or is turned off the connect to itunes logo appears…this is a new programme added by Apple to counteract the jailbreak…if you look at the serial number on the box or iphone…if the 3rd,4th and 5th numbers are over 940…you will have to run blackra1n everytime to get the jailbreak back…lets hope Geo or the Dev Team come up with a solution to this…fingers xrossed

On the iPhone 3g Blackra1n works 101% everytime,the only problem is the 3gs,if you have an earlier version of the 3gs,then you’ll be fine,the newer one is a b***h,as for geohot,i’ll think he’s had quite a bit of donations,so he’s just laying back now lol,lets hope guys fingers x,i’ll report back if anything comes up

I have a iPhone 3Gs and I used blackra1n to jailbreak it and then downloaded something from cydia and then rebooted my phone as it was freezing and then i had no wifi for quite a while.
After tons of stuffs I tried to reset network settings twice in a row and it worked, but now i would suggest you all not to restart your phone ever while it is jailbroken.

i have a problem, and im not sure if this is even heard of, or i’m just on cheap drugs lol .. here’s the story.. i have the iphone 3GS, 16g, 3.1.2, ran blackrain a few months back, worked fine. not a prob to speak of.. except one… i go into my settings (that damn shake to shuffle is killin me! and i want it disabled) only problem is.. i do not have a “ipod” heading in the settings… none to speak of… i remember when i DID have it, before the jailbreak… so im at a loss.. cant turn off that annoying shake, i have no idea what to do.. if possible any ideas??

Hey, I have been using jailbroken iphone 3G 8GB. Since ibluetooth started giving me problems, I uninstalled it and went to settings–>general–>Reset–>Reset Network Settings (maybe just for fun
) and lost my wifi!
Interestingly, in settings–>Wifi, it was showing ‘not connected’. but if I tapped wifi, it showed my wifi network name and showed it connected.
Went thru several sites and internet searches, and mutiple n/w settings resets and reboots but nothing seemed to work for me.
Then I went to General–>settings–>Wifi and tapped “other…”
Then I entered my network’s name(the same name which was showing ‘connected’ but wasn’t connnected actually.) and tapped ‘Join’ on the keyboard.
And wholla! I was able to connect to my wifi again
God! the glorious uncertainties of iphone!

There was problem with connecting to carrier after unlock.. just stays SEARCHING and carrier states Carrier 5.0 (im on TMO)… fixed the problem by changing to a newer sim card, found out sim card was deffective.. worked on other phone but not on the unlocked iphone.. if your having trouble connecting to your carrier after unlock… try changing to a new sim card..

For all the people having wifi issues go to your router and unplug it and then plug it back in so basically you are resetting it, this is what worked for me
But now i have a problem after unlock i have full bars but i cannot make or receive call any suggestions?

I have a 3g 3.1.2 all that bs, this is my third jb/ unlock in a week! Everytime I UNLOCK, my phone just crashes, for no reason and stays in apple logo/reboot loop, and there’s the no service whenever the phone feels like it. Any suggestions or ideas.. Please?!?!

hello all got my brand new3GS 3.1.2 (7D11) baseband 05-11-07. unlocked with Blackra1n RC3 ( thanks GeoHot ) after Rock and Cydia installed installed all my apps, all IPA with appsync etc problem : after some time ( no reboot ) my wifi gone !! even i cant connect with wifitrack !!
So i decided to use Pushfix, and wifi went back. but after some instal with BEYOURIPHONE REPO ( Autosilent ) my iphone crashed, stay lacked on the apple at boot ! no way to make it work
so i spend a night to restore with DFU mode tec this time i decided to folow updated tuto step by step ! if some off you guy succeded to make it work so can i
I did, restore 3.1.2 and firmware with Itune last version. Important: Removed PIN lock on the operator GSM card installed BlackRa1n from windows then Cydia and Rock and Snow from blackra1n menu, then basic packages and updates ( openSSH) from Rock after this i unistalled Blackra1n, did a boot, to test, ( USB cable puged in) all was perfect I installed Appsync from Cydia I restored all my apps with Itune then i dont know why, no more Wifi ! no netwaork detected ! should be an app conflict !! instead of using pushfix again with risk of freezing the phone again I tried to see the basic tuto on wifi, I did a reset network in genral menu, and then a reboot Well i was the worst idea, no more wifi, and wifi menu grayed out !! i was freaking out at nearly 5AM ! so i decided to tried a boot again shutdown and boot ! and a miracle, all is back wifi works and 3G and Push !!! all is fine! I get it!! juste boot more than once to test and it will be fine!

Jailbreak is good but not that good. I use my 3GS with Telstra NextG which is my carrier who sold me the phone, however jailbreak deletes my mail settings and phone settings. They just are not there, not even MobileMe works. SO whats the point? I think I’ll just stick to un-broken.

Dan and Darrell this is a pain. I have been searching for a way around this rebooting to recovery mode. I am suprised that no one has found a way to get around this problem as of yet. Every time I see a new release with a day or two I already see a post with away around it. It seems like Apple has really stumped them this time. I have been looking for about 2 months now every day for hours searching and no update yet… My fingers are crossed hoping for an update for this soon!!!! As I have said on mulitipule forums, once it is found I will update as many users that I have come across that have the same problem

I installed blackra1n snow and was able to tether on AT&T 3G network. It worked amazingly well!
However, my phone will no longer access WiFi. WiFi is on, but it will not recognize any networks.
Any ideas what can be done?
