Screen shot 2009-10-29 at 4.03.56 PM

Apple this afternoon released a point update to iTunes, bringing the latest version to 9.0.2.

iTunes 9.0.2 adds support for Apple TV software version 3.0, adds an option for a dark background for Grid View, and improves support for accessibility.

Needless to say, according to our friends at PreCentral.net, it also kills Palm Pre webOS sync dead. Again.

Check Apple’s Software Update to get your copy, and let us know if you find any other goodies!

    So nothing particularly useful for iPhone users then?

    I was so happy to find out that Windows Media Player in Windows 7 knows all about the iTunes library structure and how to play it, cover art, codecs, ratings, etc. The only reason I need ever look at iTunes again is to purchase or sync. For a windows user, iTunes sucks and is one of the most poorly written apps I’ve ever seen.

    So iGuess iLL skip this version of iTunes till something significant shows up.

  2. RJD Says:

    As if Itunes didn’t sux enough already — did they really just push out a new version just to screw palm pre users. Apple is a disgusting company. Makes me just want to flush my Iphone down a toilet.

  3. ArseneKarl Says:

    Thank you Apple! For the dark background, and breaking pre snycing once again.

    Seriously I am enjoying the epic drama every bit.

    And Palm well deserve the finger.

    Also RJD, please please do!!! And make a video of it. I promise your 15 minutes of internet fame.

  4. Chris Says:

    Is it safe for jailbroken iPhones?

  5. fastlane Says:

    Love iTunes.

    Works perfect on my MacBook Pro, iMac, and with my iPhone and Apple TV.

  6. Boots Says:

    @ chris, yes, check musclenerds twitter.

  7. GM Says:

    Icebike @ RJD please get the f@@@@ out and dont come back .

  8. Brian Says:

    I think it’s Palm that is a disgusting company, why not write your own software or purchase it. People are weird if it was their software and someone continued to use it without permission you would be pissed.

  9. Tom Munch Says:

    I’m starting to wonder if Palm & Apple are doing this on purpose with a wink & a nod.

  10. Elric Says:

    Windows 7? Really? You should’ve upgraded your OS, not Windows. You’d actually like using you computer if you did. You’d spend less time trolling, more time enjoying.

  11. tenor146 Says:

    finally! i have been wanting the dark background for grid view ever since itunes 9 took it away!!!

    and itunes is worse on a pc than a mac but i still actually love how organized i am using it. its very easy.

  12. Aaron Says:

    I don’t see why apple hasn’t been sued for monopoly abuse in the mp3 market. They control almost all downloaded mp3, and then make it so it will only work on an ipod.

    IT IS SO F-ING STUPID OF APPLE. THEY DON’T GIVE A **** ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS’S FREEDOM OF CHOICE.

  13. Kagan Says:

    There’s no monopoly. There are many many alternatives to iPod, iTunes, and iTunes sync. It’s not the courts fault that consumers choose this format with no strong arming from Apple.

  14. Sting7k Says:

    Does it remember my password yet?

  15. sting7k Says:

    @Aaron, sine the spring iTunes has been drm free for songs so you can play music from iTunes on any device or with any software that plays the aac files. You just can’t sync them with iTunes, but pretty much every other player supports drag and drop.

  16. icebike Says:

    @Elric:

    My work dictates Windows.

    At home I use Kubuntu, OpenSuse, Windows7, and FreeBSD. All of them work better than SnowLeopard.

    Windows 7 has never deleted my primary account data just because I logged in as a guest.

    hmm hmm hmmm

  18. arthur Says:

    its just getting ridiculous from both sides. yes palm should stop doing the heck of itunes. people dont need itunes there are different choices of music download networks and apple isnt a angel company either. getting sued from nokia right now for stealing and nameing it there own product palm at least doesnt act like itunes is their invention. i am standing up for palm just saying both didnt do the best things in their excitens and its known that apple is one of the biggest stealing companies around its just ridiculous that a company like apple known for stealing is so pissed about it when they stole all the time. just saying what u dont want someone doing to u should not do to others. thats a old saying.

  19. scottb Says:

    @RJD and other leeches: take your POS, and yell at Palm to make software for it. Or, buy an iPod or iPhone and STFU. Losers. Only thing worse than Palm are Palm buyers expecting to use iTunes. PHAIL!

  20. arthur Says:

    excatly there isnt a need for itunes the pre can do so much it doesnt need itunes. palm concentrate on the things they r important.

  29. SpiceRak2 Says:

    I don’t like using iTunes on Windows, either. I cross my fingers everytime I launch that program. It is slow and opens to what it thinks I should see instead of what I really want to see. I just don’t like the UI, heck, any of it really. It “does not play well with others” on my PC.

    I use iTunes for syncing only. And now, I have another task of updating the thing because Apple has a bug up the *** about the Palm Pre.

    Does anyone else think this is getting old?

  30. Tim Says:

    Old for Pre users anyway lol!

    I wonder when the class action lawsuit against Palm for promising something they can’t consistently deliver on is gonna start. Entertaining stuff!

  31. ArseneKarl Says:

    @SpiceRak2

    Exactly which part “does not play well with others”?

    Having a sidebar that is not crazy and actually usable or let you drag & drop contents in and out with ease?

    Or you have found any media programs snycs with any devices better than iTunes+iPod? Even on the Windows machine?

  32. Extended Says:

    @icebike

    “At home I use Kubuntu, OpenSuse, Windows7, and FreeBSD. All of them work better than SnowLeopard.”

    I lol’ed big time. kool aid prime time.

    fyi, SL is faster than Win7 according to recent tests. this is only 1 perk of countless ones. And welcome to the dock lol. I know i’m just feeding the troll here.

    Thanks again for the laugh.

    and oh yes, Linux is far more superior to Unix, by far /sarcasm

    You know is the only person not happy w/ SL? Jobs himself and that’s why it keeps getting better and better. On the other hand, Ballmer is ready to marry Windows. Go figure.

  33. Extended Says:

    @icebike

    and besides, if u want to compare software? compare how iTunes runs on Leopard/SL versus how WMP runs on Windows. nuff said.

    Then, compare how iTunes runs on WIndows versus how WMP runs on Mac, oh wait lol

    Fail troll is fail

  34. macboy15 Says:

    @PATO,ICEBIKE,RJD All three of you get in a car and find the closest cliff and punch the gas.

    That’s right apple screw palm.

    @PALM Get in the car with the above trolls.

  35. icebike Says:

    @ARseneKarl

    Exactly which part “does not play well with others”?

    The part where Apple foists 4 year old buggy USB drivers onto windows machines which blue-screen if there is an HP printer attached, and has to release two consecutive releases to fix them.

    Or the part where iTunes installs insecure Bonjour services on your machine without even asking permission.

    Having a sidebar that is not crazy and actually usable or let you drag & drop contents in and out with ease?

    Big deal. Most music players that come with even cheap players do this. Most devices don’t even need a special tool, your regular file manager works just fine.

    Or you have found any media programs snycs with any devices better than iTunes+iPod? Even on the Windows machine?

    Almost ANY of the sync better. Its just Apple devices that can’t sync because Der Fuhrer says Nein!

  36. icebike Says:

    @macboy14 and a half

    Grow up will ya?!

  37. bugs Says:

    another plam vs apple thread never gets old who cares. over all its the users who get screwed.

  38. Hans&Franz Says:

    I am also from Germany. Erster (FIRST)

  39. Hans&Franz Says:

    LETZTER (LaSt)

  40. SpiceRak2 Says:

    Thanks, IceBike. You can explain much better than I.

    From CBSNews.com:

    “Removing other USB devices, such as Webcams and printers, appears to resolve the problem, for the moment. Users on the forum speculate that there is an incompatibility between Apple and USB products from LogicTech and HP, as well as disc-burning software from Roxio. “

    I have both HP and LogicTech devices. :(

    Additionally, I have trouble with cover art in iTunes, and I still don’t know how to move iPod content TO the iTunes library.

  41. ArseneKarl Says:

    @icebike

    please. Name one sync program and one PMP.

    And some people prefer sync over mass storage mode, A LOT of people do actually. After 8 years I understand you will never get it.

    Bugs happen everyday Apple have it’s own fair share of loopholes. So? By you definition MSFT does not play well with others. Also bonjour is awesome for simple networking and is necessary for home sharing and iPhone remote to work effortlessly. Zune installs it’s own service, please hate on that for that’s what MSFT does to itself.

  42. kay Says:

    @Extended: “I lol’ed big time. kool aid prime time.

    You know is the only person not happy w/ SL? Jobs himself and that’s why it keeps getting better and better. On the other hand, Ballmer is ready to marry Windows. Go figure.”

    Talk about Kool Aid drinking. How much of Jobs’ ***** can you handle at once?

  43. Dionte Says:

    I’m still looking for the option to change the background back to black

  44. bugs Says:

    @dionte, edit, preferences, general tab, grid view change light to dark, it will only change music, tv, movies, podcasts itunes store is still white.

  45. Russell Says:

    Did this upgrade break syncing for anybody else’s iPod? I synced my iPod after upgrading and went from having 1000 songs on it to only having 300… Tried resyncing and following up on what was happening, and half of the playlists I use (in particular, my “sync” playlist!) disappeared from the list of options I can choose for syncing. The playlist still appears on the left navbar, though. I hope they fix this soon :(
