Updated: iPhone 3.1.2, AT&T Carrier File 5.6, and iPod touch 3.1.2 Now Available
Head on over to iTunes and start your downloads, people, because iPhone 3.1.2 (7D11) is now available!
Weighing in at 306.2 MB, Apple says:
This update contains bug fixes and improvements including the following:
- Resolves sporadic issues that may cause iPhone not to wake from sleep
- Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming
Update: iPod touch 3.1.2 is also out (iPod touch G3 shipped with 3.1.1 which is why this update is 3.1.2 for everyone), and US readers are telling us AT&T Carrier File Update 5.6 is popping up for them as well. If you notice any other changes, please drop us a note in the comments!
So is the infamous “coma mode” fixed? If you’ve been having trouble, and you do the update, let us know how it goes.
And as always, if you’ve Jailbroken, do not update or you’ll lose your Jailbreak.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

iPhone FTW! Hey competitors, DEAL with it!
October 8th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Thank you, Apple, for responding in a timely manner.
October 8th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
and i just jailbroke my 3.1 on windows…
October 8th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
i still cant MMS, the option is there now but every picture message i have tried to send to any other phone on any other carrier always fails, any one else having this issue, I have updated to carrier file 5.5 and restarted my iphone, no go.
October 8th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Thank god…my iPhone has been plagued by this ever since I updated. I will be installing as soo as I get home
October 8th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
nevermind as soon as the update finished i got 2 picture messages that came through successfully.
October 8th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Does anyone know if this fixed the poor battery life? I haven’t had any problems except for that.
October 8th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
@Mike: I had the same problem I went into the apple store and they ran a diagnostic and the phone was fine. ATT had to reset my messaging and data plan to get my visual voicemail and mms to work and you have to stay on them to make sure they turn your messaging back on.
October 8th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
dev team is falling behind… can’t JB 3.1 OTB and here is 3.1.2 already
October 8th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
It works for me. Just for grins, try hard reset.
I have heard of a one instance where one half of a couple could do MMS while the other could not. They had to call AT&T to get MMS enabled for that number. Go figure.
October 8th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
I’m still gonna stick with 3.0. It’s been working fine for me and I’ll stay on it until they force me to upgrade!
October 8th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
@j00w00t: How did you jailbreak 3.1 on windows… Do tell
October 8th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
@Dexter, I think 3.1.2 maybe a good option for you because I was regretting updating to 3.1, but 3.1.2 seems to have fixed any problems I was having with 3.1
October 8th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
@Nassblue.
If you know someone with a Mac or if you know how to use Vmware on your Windows machine, create a customized 3.1 firmware using Pwnage 3.1.3
October 8th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
@freddy kruger: dev team kick ***, stop whining like a school girl
October 8th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
I’ve been having difficulty with YouTube videos hanging halfway thru.
Another thing that’s just happened today (pre update) is the non existant buttons on top and bottom of emails
October 8th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Nassblue,
I sort of did this, too. Sort of, because I installed VMWare Player as well as Leopard already installed in a VM. Pwnagetool 3.1.3 ran find in the Leopard VM. I then copied over and saved the custom firmware file, installing it from my Windows 7 iTunes install. An easier way, if you trust the source, is to find an already-generated custom firmware from someone who used Pwnagetool on a Mac and made the results available. As stated, once you have the custom firmware, you can install it from Windows.
October 8th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
There is a carrier settings update also out
October 8th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Tethering data is no longer listed for me under Usage on AT&T after the update
October 8th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
This update seems to have fixed my battery issues. Also I can now Group MMS!!
October 8th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
So what happened to 3.1.1? This was never released right?
October 8th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
@George how do you know it has fixed the battery issue? It hasn’t been out that long
October 8th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Oh Dear Gawd, if this fixes the fail Wake (Coma mode) I will be SO happy.
@George: How can you tell in the half hour its been available that it fixed your Battery issue. A simple reboot would have solved that.
October 8th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Doesn’t really fix anything, just screws up blackra1n.
October 8th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
Mine is still locked with 3G 3.1 05.11.07 can’t unlock, can’t downgrade… Cannot do anything… Jailbreak works,if install ultrasn0w.. “Serching….” after while change to “No Service” I hope hacker will unlock soon…
October 8th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
@shollomon:
Well as long as chocolatera1n is safe… :-p
October 8th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
My battery would literally go down 1% every 1-2 minutes. It has only gone down 2% the last 40 minutes of somewhat steady use.
October 8th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
I want to upgrade but don’t wanna loose the jailbreak on 3.0 3gs. Why they haven’t released any official JB for 3.1 on windows! It’s driving me crazy!
October 8th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Plus there is a new carrier update. What does that do?
October 8th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Oh god, please let it fix the battery!!
October 8th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
@Nassblue found someone with a custom firmware and shift-clicked restore in iTunes with that fw
October 8th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
George is probable right, I had the same problem. My battery you could watch the percentage go down every minute (full charge used only lasted 1 hour 15. But I finally got mine fixed last week, at first I did restarts, resets, restored and used backup, still no fix but I finally did a restore and did all new setting and no backed up file used.
October 8th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Usually with the big fixes, it fixes bugs I’ve never experienced. This time, I’ve had all three of those bugs! But…I’m jailbroken
October 8th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Alas, it doesn’t fix the issue introduced in 3.1 with Voice Memos being restricted to ~ 34 minutes.
(See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2160876&start=45&tstart=0 for details).
October 8th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Awesome, Will grab this in a bit. Was once jailbroken but dont really miss it and I got tired with the constant cat and mouse games with firmware updates!
October 8th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
I’ll stick with 3.0.1 until it ra1ns black
Looks like blackra1n jb will work with 3.1.2 — thanks to Apple for getting this to geohot so soon haha.
October 8th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Anyone have the carrier file handy?
October 8th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
@j00w00t: any chance of sharing assuming u had no problems
October 8th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Can I use skype in 3G network with this changes?
October 8th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
…Weird, i have absolutly no problem with my IPhone. Im grateful for that.
October 8th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
@Nassblue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQD-b6dhLX0&feature=player_embedded#
October 8th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
No dice on 3G Skype-ing.
October 8th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
I’m downloading this from iTunes but instead from a website so I can keep my tethering : ) on my iPhone that isn’t jailbroken.
October 8th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
correction I’m not***
October 8th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
3.1 is the iPhone’s System 7! Stay away!
October 8th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
@Zeagus:
Wait for Skype to publish an update.
October 8th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
@Nassblue
Very simple process. Follow the instructions for updating carrier files without updating to 3.1 and instead point it to custom firmware file. iTunes and your phone will take care of the rest.
1)Download custom firmware 2)Open iTunes, go HOLD SHIFT and click RESTORE. Point it to custom ipsw. 3)Enjoy. (Don’t worry when your AT&T disappears, this is normal. There’s an application you can download from Cydia that you can use to put AT&T back or whatever the heck you want.
October 8th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
@t0m: thanx but I have 3.1 installed already, updated when it came out. Will this still work? Thanx!
October 8th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
241.7mb what update did you download that was over 300mb?
October 8th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
this **** better fix the random ibrick modes the last update did.
October 8th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
@bugs 306.2MB here.
October 8th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
@ Nassblu; Every post on every website indicates it will only work on 3.0 or 3.0.1 jailbroken iPhone. If u updated to 3.1 using apple official release U CANNOT JAILBREAK FOR NOW! READ BEFORE U ASK QUESTION…
October 8th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
The carrier update probley allows voip access??
October 8th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Now I will wait for the dev team. I wish I was still on 3.01 much more stable but I hope 3.1.2 is like 2.2.1
October 8th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
@Nassblue
For now, you’re screwed. Unless you saved your EICD to Cydia. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re screwed.
Follow geohot, iphone_dev and this website for information.
Blackra1n.com isn’t a bad one to follow either.
October 8th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
241 and 265mb for my itouch updates where are you ppl getting these 300 mb updates.
October 8th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
why are ppl screwed that the dev team or jailbreakers are doing the same **** apple is. if it wasnt for i cant remember but the 3gs other jailbreak release, dev team would of waited a year.
October 8th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
All, the carrier file 5.6 eliminates the tethering data usage indicator in the iPhone usage screen. FYI
October 8th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
306mb for my 3GS, 240mb for my son’s first gen iPhone.
October 8th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
YOU ARE NO ABLE TO SAVE A VIDEO FILE (.MOV) WHEN IT’S EMAILED TO YOU. THIS WAS PROMISED WITH 3.0, BUT IT HASN’T WORKED FOR ME UNTIL THIS LATEST UPDATE. I JUST HELD MY FINGER ON THE FILE AND THE ‘SAVE VIDEO’ MENU POPPED UP!
October 8th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Does anyone know what changes come with the carrier update besides the tethering data usage on the about page?
October 8th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
ah the jump from 3g to 3gs i found no need, wonder what the extra 60 gigs is.
October 8th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
@bugs
Umm what? Try english
October 8th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
@icebike
I thought as much – I only mentioned because it was asked.
October 8th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
@t0m. Silly iPhone. I never made the jump from 3g to s. Why puts my update at 241mb I wonder what is the 60mb difference.
October 8th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
@Bugs I mean the previous post about people being screwed
October 8th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
To bug or not to bug!…that is the question??
October 8th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
does this update fix bluetooth issues? i don’t know if anyone else has this happening but ever since 3.1, my bluetooth headset is constantly disconnecting from the phone and i can’t stress how annoying that is
October 8th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
@t0m,
when the 3gs first came out, dev team sat on a jailbreak, it wasn’t the dev team who released a jailbreak for it, but someone else. why? they follow the same bs apple does. lets show what we can do this but no you cant have it.
October 8th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
It’s a buggy bug world!
October 8th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Anybody notice that the little red X’s that appear in the top corner when switching web pages in safari are easier to hit now? Before I would have to tap several times before the page would close.
October 8th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
@Greg
I have the same problem with my 3gs and had it with my old 3g as well. I’ll test and see if it is fixed.
October 8th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
@Joe McG it still does it! Just happened after I updated. WTF?!! I never had an issue with it with my 3g or 3gs til 3.1. I use the plantronics voyager pro. Used to use the apple Bluetooth but that one sucks. Plus I’m now noticing some cracks on the bottom of my phone too…is anyone elses developing hairline cracks?
October 8th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
@Al Me too. Bad, no, terrible batt life. How can my second hand 3G that’s jailbroken running winterboard have better batt life than a brand spankin’ new 3 GS in standby????
October 8th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
So. What’s the verdict? Update or not??
October 8th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Just finished the update and it was quick. Or am I just use to how much time it takes. LOL I did notice that I did not have to redownload my exchange contacts, email, and calendar. Sending sms is now faster. SMS was taking for ever to send before this update.
October 8th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Weird but i thought what the heck i have att ill update as soon as i did i got full service 3g when i never got it at home not even close so maybe there updating there 3g i know thats for sure for me
October 8th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Seems that sync time is much improved.
October 8th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
@george
after having the same battery issue and speaking to Apple about it, the solution we came up with was to do a clean install and do not restore from backup…
October 8th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
Can anyone confirm if upgrading you are able to install the custom usatt.mobileconfig from the usual places? Without this I would not be able to stay on my old $20 data plan. Thanks http://www.michaeljohnston.me/IMAGES/usatt.mobileconfig load from iphone
October 8th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
241.7mb here, iPhone 3G. Anybody know what the carrier update is yet?
October 8th, 2009 at 7:11 pm

5.11.07 baseband unlock
October 8th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
All signs point to a jailbreak this weekend it would seem…
October 8th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
@BBYM: Thank you… GEEZ!
October 8th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
At least this update fixed my 3G connection. 3.1 broke my wifi and this update didn’t fix it. Resets and restores haven’t fixed it either. Guess it’s back to the apple store for me… :/
October 8th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Wellington: it did that before this update
October 8th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Smart Playlists & Top 25 Most Played Playlist still not syncing properly…kinda disappointed right now smh
October 8th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
PRAISE SCIENCE!!
October 8th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
@ Mike I have exactly the same issue. 4 hours on the phone with AT&T, no help. 2 hours with Apple Care, they told me to restore as new phone. So I did, lost all my existing SMS info, no MMS. WTF! I’m so over this bs.
October 8th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
@eralwss puppy: Already tried that. Restore and use as NEW phone. Batt life us absolutely terrible. Right. I would go to Apple, but my phone is from Australia and I’m in Cebu.
October 8th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
So this didn’t fixed the super big issue going around for weeks about the 3.1 battery life performance? Shet APPLE
October 8th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
wifi doesn’t seem as stable as before. sweet! something new for me to obsess over until the next fix.
October 8th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
@BliNK:
What do you mean? What symptoms are you seeing?
WiFi seems ok for me, at least against my own router.
One issue I saw frequently with the prior release was dropping my password to my own router just because it could not connect immediately. I haven’t seen this yet on this release.
October 8th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Very happy with this update. Since 3.1.1, my phone has been lagging very badly and did suffer from the “sporadic issues that may cause iPhone not to wake from sleep”, which annoyed the hell out of me and at one stage was considering taking my iPhone to the Apple Store to get them to look at it. But now the 3.1.2 update has made my iPhone run so smoothly so i’m now stoked!
October 9th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Sweeeeet my podcast are back in order again!!! Now I’m happy(doesn’t take much to happy) god I’m a sad sack
October 9th, 2009 at 12:37 am
the poster George (post #20) said that he can now Group MMS like you could with the previous carrier update before the 5.6(?) one came out like a week or two ago..,
unless i’m doing it wrong, i believe the Group MMS chat room thing is still turned off?
is anyone else getting Group Texting?
October 9th, 2009 at 5:45 am
Hey guys
updated to 3.1.2 yesterday – battery issue still there
Every 1 min 1% goes down — WTF — I don’t want to reset it as a new phone again coz have too much stuff in calendar
3.0 was awesome – it gave me 10 hour of usage in a single day — yeah it used to be like that — reall awesome
so looks like downgrading to 3.0 is the best bet as of now
October 9th, 2009 at 7:16 am
I noticed something about the carrier update: If you look under Settings>General>Usage, the tethering data section is gone
October 9th, 2009 at 7:16 am
Or am I just an idiot who saw it somewhere else and thought it was there… you decide!
October 9th, 2009 at 7:34 am
My carrier was updated to 6.0, anyone else?
October 9th, 2009 at 8:17 am
I don’t know what to make of all this ha1ltunes, appuloha1l, ferocious bird stuff… How does everyone else feel?

October 9th, 2009 at 8:49 am
Anyone besides me having worse battery life?
October 9th, 2009 at 9:44 am
@Al
I have received worser battery life since 3.1 to. it only lasts for 3 hours and something
October 9th, 2009 at 9:46 am
Yes my effin battery is even worse. I started with 100% an hour ago and now I have 87%. I have sent a couple text and looked at FmLife for about 10 minutes. This is my second 3gs………………………………Plus my mms works like azz. It has worked like azz since I got it…………………………………….I know the mms is ATT issue.
October 9th, 2009 at 9:47 am
My friend put in an aftermarket battery in his 3g and it smokes…………….smokes in a good way. His battery life is great. I just don’t want to open mine.
October 9th, 2009 at 9:48 am
Did anybody have a problem with talking my phone when i would talk to somebody it would fade out then come back in then fade out again and come back in. it was a continous pattern??? It didn’t do it the whole conversation.
October 9th, 2009 at 10:05 am
I took my phone off the charger at 100% two hours later its at 85%, I only used it for 4 texts
October 9th, 2009 at 10:20 am
I went from excellent wifi to spotty wifi on 3.1 to no (secure) wifi on 3.1.2. I can’t connect to my own network unless I turn off all security. I’ve tried seemingly every combo and restart / reset – except a complete back-to-factory reset of my entire iPhone (scared of that one). Really frustrating…
October 9th, 2009 at 10:26 am
All my issues seem to be resolved. MUCH better battery life, no more Coma Mode (so far). Thank you Apple!
October 9th, 2009 at 10:27 am
By the way, after having SOOOOOOOOOO many problems with stated issues in 3.1 and did a complete “restore as new” a couple of weeks ago before doing the update this morning.
October 9th, 2009 at 10:50 am
Battery Issues: I was having issues with my 3Gs. I had done a restore from my 3G. The battery life was all over the place. So after dealing with this since the 3Gs came out I was going to go to Apple Store. One of my good friends said try restoring the phone as new create as a new phone. I did not restore any of my old data. I have MobileMe and Exchange so all my contacts and calendars we saved. I manually removed my photos before the restore. Now I have not a single battery life issue. I go all day I have pushed turned on 24×7 for 4 accounts. At night I always leave my phone on. When I would get up in the moring maybe 6 hours later my battery life would go from say 80% to 20% and I would only have gotten 40 emails. (IT emails). Some times I would have to put on wall charger just to get the battery alive again. Still no issues and it has been 3 weeks since. Just for the sake of those who don’t believe. I restored my old backup that I brought over from my 3G and the issues of the battery draining quickly started right back up… Something doesn’t or didn’t transfer over well. Our phones are software (oS) dependent. You wouldn’t install your computer without formating your drive or writing over an old install if you wanted it to be reliable would you?
Cheers.
October 9th, 2009 at 10:52 am
Follow up to over night part of my story.. Now I loose maybe 10 percent in the coarse of overnight and getting emails and text, and phone calls. Very much improved.
October 9th, 2009 at 11:47 am
@BBYM
thats a lie. 3.1 is jailbreakable without downgrading.. just look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgK0sL3AZ8A worked for me.
October 9th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Looking at this I will for sure restore mine as a new phone on 3.1.2
October 9th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
I don’t have any of the listed issues. What I do have is out if order smart playlists. Where is the fix for that?
October 9th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Updated to 3.1.2 this morning and now I’m having issues. Texting and making calls are a challenge. Sometimes they go through sometimes they don’t, even with full bars.
October 9th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
After upgrade to 3.1.2 and the AT&T carrier update, suddenly my iPhone 3G is showing “3G” rather than “E” for its data network. We have never had 3G in Richmond, KY, strictly Edge network for data.
I ran Speedtest and selected 3G network; the results were 206 Kbits/s download and 31 Kbits/s upload in Richmond, KY. These speeds are more like our usual Edge network speeds. I wonder if the carrier update has goofed up the data network indicator or possibly AT&T really has turned up 3G here and has not turned up the bandwidth.
I suppose time will tell.
October 9th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
the carrier update takes tethering setting were you can see how much u have use tethering .. its happening like mms once before with 3.0
they hide featurees
October 9th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
My battery sucks big time. I have done the restore as new before and it seems to help for a bit then i get crappy battery life again. It is too much of a hassle. I never had these issues updating before. You shouldn’t have to go through all this. This is BULLS##T. I wish Apple would just do something right for once. They pride themselves on keep a tight check on their programming but this software f-ing sucks a$$.
October 9th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
does any1 no if tethering still available w/ 3.1.2? jus got new 3gs last week & got my tethering back cuz new phone preloaded w/ 3.0.1. would rather w/ internet tethering than mms.
October 10th, 2009 at 2:09 am
Can someone please tell me if I never updated to 3.1 to behing with and then just heard about 3.1.2 coming out can I just update directly to 3.1.2 or what cause I connected my phone to iTunes and it said there’s an uodate for my iPhone but it only said 3.1 without the 2. What’s going on? Or do I have to get a text saying the update is available to me?
October 10th, 2009 at 8:21 am
In reference to Peter’s issue (post 108), I have the same wi-fi issue with the 3.1.2 update. Testing points to a problem with MAC address filtering. The iPhone MAC address seems to drop out from my router’s ‘Permission’ list. When re assigned it works fine for a while and then drops out again.
October 10th, 2009 at 8:35 am
update my 3GS to 3.1.2 , Did a clean restore . the update DID NOT fix the Coma and battery issue !
I can live with battery issue , but i can’t live with a mobile phone that don’t ring and accept calls and messages when it gos into Coma after sleep mode !
Love the iphone touch screen and i like the OS . But having a phone that don’t tell you what happened ( calls – messages ) during the Coma is really serious problem !
October 10th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
I’ve had my iphone for a week. Within 3 hours of purchase, I came to know the infamous “coma mode”. It happens within one minute of sleep mode on my iphone, UNLESS the iPod function is running, or when I have a particular application, alarmlite, running in the forground when I hit sleep.
This update did not fix anything for me. However, I am wondering if it is caused by the “Carrier Settings Update” or whatever it is, since after restore it seemed to be ok, but then when I synced it…back to coma-land.
Any idea how to uninstall carrier updates or the ramifications of doing so?
October 10th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
EDIT:
Not carrier settings. Turns out they install separately after a restore and the phone’s still comatose. Will update them but I’m sure it won’t fix it…though I’ll let ya’ll know if it do.

Fellas, Sorry to hear that you guys are having problems with your updates. I was getting a rash of **** from a couple of other boards (ATT Apple Forum and Apple Forum) for not putting my trust in 3.1.1 or even 3.1.2. They were telling me that just a few of the people were reporting any problems with their updates. I’m still running 3.0.1 with carrier file 5.5. I like every one else would like to see a more reliable OS. I’m now concerned that many of the developers will start using the 3.1.2. SDK to update all their apps. I sure hope Apple takes a close look at these website and takes action to investigate these problems.

MMS messages wouldn’t send for me because I originally had an iphone 2g and upgraded to a 3gs…but it wasn’t updated in at&t’s system. (This is likely your issue)..I had to call at&t (dial 611 from a at&t phone) and let them know i wasn’t able to send mms AND that it might because I upgraded from a 2g to a 3gs. They updated it in their systems, and I was able to send MMS messages after rebooting my phone.

Well, you should probably call from a different phone, cause I think they need your phone to be turned off while they do this…also, they may ask for your phone’s IMEI number and Sim card number and such.

For all of you who are waiting for 3G Skyping, forget it. It will never happen. That would totally infringe on your service providers ability to make money. Apple would never allow voice over p2p social networks like Skype, it just won’t happen.
(Wish it would though…)

Upgraded my iPod Touch with 3.1.2. Unfortunatelly it didn’t fixed the crashes, the frequent “coma” nor the poor battery I have since upgrading to 3.1. For the first time in 25 years Apple has really dissapointed me. My (very expensive) 32G iPod Touch is useless.
October 14th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Wow!!! Easiest Jailbreak ever created. Don’t need to unlock it since I’m stuck with ATT anyway due to family.

How do you jailbreak the iPhone 3.1.2????
October 15th, 2009 at 1:40 am
3.1.2 Has killed the battery life in my Gen1 iPod Touch. Was lasting 4-5 days, now less than a day!
October 15th, 2009 at 8:22 am
iPhone 3.1 update had re-created Microsoft Windows experiences-coma mode!
Hopefully I am back to Apple with 3.1.2

I have the same wifi issues as noted by Peter and Paul. I was not able to connect to my work or home wifi until I reconnected using WifiTrak. After doing that, my connection worked fine while the phone was active. When it went to sleep and came back, it showed Edge for a few minutes then picked up the wifi again.

Did the play count problem get resolved? My play count has been screwed up ever since I got the version 3 update.

If you still can’t MMS call ATT tech support. My 3G phone was still “partially” registered with them as a 2G. They fixed this situation – made sure I was 3G across the board – and MMS has worked perfectly ever since.

So, with the new 3.1.2 update, is there a carrier file somewhere that will restore tethering without breaking anything?
October 17th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Thanks to 3.1 and the stupid coma, Apple replaced my Iphone SWEET!

In the camera a roll I have no pictures in the camera roll yet it stills show the number (1) in it. If I take a picture in the camera roll it show (2) in the camera roll when it only 1 picture in the camera roll. So when I delete the picture in the camera roll it shows at the time (0) pictures in the camera roll. But when I exit out of photos and return to photos the camera roll still show (1) in the camera roll I tried restoring my iPhone 3GS in iTunes but it still shows the same thing I’ve even tried rebooting my iPhone 3GS but still no changes. This is a but you must have missed so apple really needs to fix this bug to make it’s iPhone 3GS correct and funcitional. All so make flash abode for iPhone 3GS this phone should work like an computer and also therething should be in iPhone 3GS for free without any other charges. I fell like if your paying over 100 dollars for a cellphone bill you should have everything I mean the full package. Thank you.

hi guys i was wondering if u guys are having the same problem as me. recently after the 3.1.2 update i had been having wifi issues with my iphone 3g. now it cant even detect a single wireless signal. i guess my conclusion this time round is “WTH!!!! APPLE JUST MURDERED MY WIFI!!!”
October 20th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
I have two iPhone 3G, 16gb with 3.1 and ATT 5.5 and I am having no issues with locking, wifi, or calls. HOWEVER… my wifes 8gb 3G which is on 3.1.2 with ATT 5.6 is a huge brick. She can make maybe one phone call before it freezes, requiring a restart. We usually get one or two bars in the house, but now the phone shows full bars, but won’t connect a call or drops them within seconds of connecting. SApps are now causing it t olock up,tried to take picture and it locked up.
I have done a full reset and restore with NO success, but I did use the restore. After reading the threads I may do a factory reset and set it up as a new phone and see what happens.

I have a 3g iphone. Ever since the 3.1.2 update I am having a really hard time using the internet on the 3g network. It doesn’t seem to be affecting calls or messaging, just safari-type things. Every time I enter a URL, it fails to load, stating that the network isn’t responding, about 80% of the time I’d say. No problems on Wifi.
Anyone have any similar issues?

November 6th, 2009 at 8:26 am
When I go to google.com a blank screen is shown, then when I’m playing a video suddenly it doesn’t work: when I tap the iPod it doesn’t respond so I have to go to the homescreen. YouTube . Com doesn’t work on safari and on the app ocasionaly the video slows down while the audio keeps going.

I am super peeved about this peice of garbage. I got the new update for five dollars$. Bought a bunch of apps/music around 45$ ipod touch was around 120.00$… I would rather had saved up for a fancy Mp3. I hate this garbage. Every time i get an app i have to turn it off hold the hold button wait for it to load. Then turn it back on. That also goes for music. Alsp everytime i time i use an app for it to save… If i could, i would.return this ****. My brother had an ipod a few months back and it worked 99.9% perfect. Mine constantly breaksdown… Freezes… Loses money out of my account… And if it werent for the warrenty i would fricken throw this garbage in the trash -100000 out of 10 stars
