iPhone Tops 2009 CoolBrands Rankings

iphone_cool_brand

Looks like the iPhone topped the 2009 CoolBrands Rankings, coming in at a frigid #1, with Apple itself at #3 and the iPod at #4 (that’s 3 out of the top 5 spots, according to our match department). Says Stephen Cheliotis of Centre for Brand Analysis:

The iPhone is something everyone has been talking about. There has been so such a buzz around it and people who haven’t got one, want one.

And yeah, with the way they spell Centre and the notable inclusions and exclusions on the list (Xbox 360?) it’s likely not a US-based survey. Still, nice to see the iPhone owns international mindshare as well…

Here’s the full top 10:

  1. iPhone
  2. Aston Martin
  3. Apple
  4. iPod
  5. Nintendo
  6. YouTube
  7. BlackBerry
  8. Google
  9. Bang & Olufsen
  10. PlayStation 3

The iPod is number 4? Bogus the iPod isn’t that cool anymore. Everyone and their brother has probably 2 of them. I don’t see anyone oooh and aaah over any iPod model anymore.

Never heard of #9 before and Google? Does the person who made this leave their house?

I think you’ll find that the reviewer is Europe based where Bang & Olufsen are very well known. Take a look via Google. They make some nice tech.

Technically that makes it 3 of the top 4 spots. Check your math.

the iphone really needs some competition.. and soon.. Its gone from an elite, amazing phone.. to an everyone has one razor type.. I hope Apple keeps pushing the limits.. and they stop making the annual update that is hardly even an update.. I don’t want the Madden football of phones. (sorry, don’t get me wrong.. I love my phone.. I just hope they don’t start resting on their laurels)

    AHHHHHHHHH I love Aston Martins.

    Xbox360 not on the list?

Must be because the ps3 is better :D

Xbox actually makes it in at number 11.

Aston Martin surrounded by apple… Doesn’t make sense

Xbox 360 was definitely shafted by the fact that this was conducted outside the US. Who doesn’t love the game system with the best library of exclusively titles and DLC coupled with Netflix instant viewing, huge friends/social integration and FB and Twitter coming soon. Xbox 360 is the premier living room entertainment device.

In the original article it clearly says that the survey was conducted in the UK. Which would explain some of the brands in the top 20 being of little or no relevance in other countries (european countries included).

XBox by the way is in spot 11.

  15. Dane Says:

Bang & Olufsen is a great high tech company, they have stores across the globe, which include my location: Toronto. http://www.bang-olufsen.com/

Hey HungWrong, it’s still 3 out of 5. Also 3 out of 6 or 4. Putting it in a larger group doesn’t change anything but the proportion. They’re all top spots that’s why they’re listed.

  17. Desmond Says:

I really think will will have some really great features in 4.0.

thats funny, i didn’t know that Bang & Olufsen was still a big deal.. i cant justify paying that much for something not so great.. they even put out a phone a while ago on tmobile designed by them engineered by samsung and it sold for like $900+… crazy.. and it was a lame phone anyway.

In the US, the iphone has already jumped over the top and is on the down-hill side of the Cool Factor curve.

The only time anyone gets excite when someone flashes an iPhone these days is when it is Jailbroken and has a cool jailbreak theme on the Springboard or the Lock page.

If Apple comes out with colored iPhones this will be your clue that even THEY realize this.

Long after the time people started yawning when a Razr was whipped out, Motorola went on to double their annual sales.

So even if Apple did nothing for the next two years, the iPhone will continue to gain in sales long after coolness has crept away.

A slight re-design and a total UI redesign will start the cool curve all over again and keep the iPhone in the lead for another 5 years.

There are more countries in the world than the US
