Reminder: AT&T MMS Coming This Friday

Not that any of you AT&T customers really need the reminder. Regardless, the wait is almost over folks, AT&T is finally flipping the MMS switch for all of their iPhone customers this Friday, September 25th.
Sure, this day marked in your calendars but would any of you like to take bets on whether or not the network will buckle when you have every single iPhone owner sending picture after picture all day long? Don’t be too upset when the person you are sending the image to tells you they have not gotten it yet. That’s more than likely to happen unless AT&T really used this extra time wisely and beefed up their network like they claimed in preparation for the flood gates they are about to open…
Still, according to some of our readers, it seems as if AT&T is currently sending out text messages reminding you of this day that so many of you cherish.
“Picture &video message(MMS) will be available for iphone on 9/25. While we prepare your account for MMS capability, the current ” view my message” experience will be turned off but your ability to send and receive text messages will not be affected.”
How many of you have received this message?
[Thanks for the tip Mike!]

September 23rd, 2009 at 6:18 am
I have not received this text but my MMS already works with AT&T non-hacked ipcc file, it’s been working for about 2 weeks Omaha, Nebraska.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:19 am
My MMS started kicking in this morning. Have had the ipcc update file for a week now and about time it works!
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:28 am
Sent my first MMS this morning (southern New Hampshire). Yea!
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:29 am
My **** been working for a cool two days now.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:31 am
For those that it works. Did you have to enter password and other info in the settings?
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:33 am
Sent my first this morning in Atlanta, GA with 5.1 carrier file.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:37 am
Interesting. I sent one to myself and received it twice. AT&T keeps that up and they really will overload their network.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:38 am
@Steven- nope. If it works, it just works. No password required.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:46 am
Ok, let’s just hope that 3.1.1 is released as well, so that the 3.1 jailbreak can finally be published!
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:48 am
I can’t wait anymore.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:49 am
I’ve got the carrier file installed by get the little red exclamation mark. Not working.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:50 am
@iBamse:
Hear, hear!
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:57 am
Btw I’ve been raising hell w/AT&T and got a $50. credit.
Call then & get you credit. Happy Fall.
I guess they realize they’re liars & thieves.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:58 am
So….if you have 3.1, there will be no need to connect to iTunes to download newer firmwere? I mean, if I’m at work, in my office, on 09/25/2009, I can assume that sometime, that day, I will have MMS on my iPhone?
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:16 am
I’m rebooting my iPhone now to see if it magically starts working…
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:18 am
I have had mine working since 3.1 was released, I installed the 5.1 carrier and the modified MMS profile and it has been working ever since.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:32 am
How are these people getting MMS? I checked iTunes last night and no update. I tried a reboot right now and no MMS.
Will we be installing 3.1.1 on Friday? Does anyone know?
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:35 am
Yeah I was wondering the same thing will we have to use iTunes or will that update just come to our phone? Could sumone answer that…
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:36 am
I believe (but not 100% certain) it will just be a Carrier Update via iTunes, which only takes a second unlike Firmware Updates.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:40 am
YAY…HAHAHAHA….kinda GAY …but seriously, im exited
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:41 am
Yeah it’s just gonna be a carrier update not a firmware update. Still nothing here in Memphis.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:43 am
@ Jeff… thanks
i’ll b sure to b by iTunes that day lol
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:44 am
Question Do you get a notification about the carrier file and how does that happen ?
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:46 am
Fact: You will get a notification when you sync with iTunes. Kind of like the firmware updates but it’s extremely fast.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:47 am
Works here in NYC as of yesterday. Yay. But I’ll probably still use email for most pictures and video I send. Easier for others to save.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:50 am
I have not recive that message but a customer of mine recived it right after I activated a 3GS for her. And I had mms about 2 weeks now.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:51 am
MMS is a big deal for a few users. Not EVERY iPhone user will be sending MMS — I know I won’t.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:51 am
just saw i have the “messages” icon on my iphone but i cannot send out a MMS. Also, i have been having data trouble since yesterday, cant access any webpages using the iphone browser. im in the cleveland, ohio area…anyone else having similar issues?
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:52 am
Some others in Atlanta have it working, but, I’m here, too, and it’s not ‘on’, yet, on my iPhone.
Once we iPhone lovers get MMS, what will we be waiting for next?
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:56 am
Is the AT&T network really that weak ? You guys make it seem like AT&T never had mms. I’m sure not every single iPhone user is going to constantly be sending mms at the same time. However I’m sure mms share apart of the data network so I suppose it MIGHT take a hit but not as big as you guys make it seem.
It seems that AT&T has made some improvements over the months to their 3G so I’m less worried about the network crashing.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:56 am
@ Ivan Williams Tethering, Skype on 3G, Sling on 3G, There will be plenty to complain & ***** about. Have some faith, will ya ? lol
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:03 am
I have had it for a couple weeks now. Works pretty well. Not 100% sold on Apples implementation.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:08 am
stil no mms, so I guess i’ll be getting it friday. and i haven’t gotten that message.
Stupid question, but I don’t need an 3gS to get the MMS, right?
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:21 am
not working for me yet
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 am
No MMS for me yet! You think AT&T is releasing it slowly to different areas to test how their servers respond? No one in my area has it yet.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:37 am
“view my message experience”? More like nightmare
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:46 am
I’m from long island, tired the hack on quickpwn last night. At works for me, they iccc file hack…
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:47 am
Installed the 5.1 carrier file last week and tried it everyday. Didn’t start working until yesterday. The MMS interface is really slick
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:52 am
@sommerface I think it works with 3g and 3gs
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:18 am
I got the AT&T text message yesterday. Still no mms here in southern California.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:27 am
I installed MMS on my 3g and my iPhone got hot and started smoking!!!!
OMG!!! What to do???
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:27 am
No AT&T text message yet, but I’ve had MMS for a couple of weeks already. I’m in South Texas.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:28 am
Why do I have the feeling that not all of us will be “live” on Friday? Based on the current track record of AT&T, this will not go as smoothly as planned…
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:50 am
I don’t have anything yet. Not the biggest deal. I can wait til Friday.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:53 am
Working MMS here in Miami. On FW 3.0, 3G iPhone. For the people that have installed the carrier file 5.0 & above & MMS DOESNT work, you need to check your online bill & make sure it says something like “opt out”. Then you are good to go.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:02 am
I just reboted my iPhone and started working. I’m excited
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:04 am
It’s finally working I think I’m going to cry
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:06 am
I’m talking about mms
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:07 am
I’ve had MMs ever since 3.1 was released. My friend and I installed the 5.1 carrier file and we both have had it ever since.
I like it much more than emailing pictures.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:11 am
Yesterday I talked to an AT&T rep. She told me that if you phone was hacked for mms come Friday they will be able to determine that, and your warranty will automaticaly expire.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:18 am
I so don’t care. I only get 200 texts/mo with my plan. I get unlimited data so I just e-mail everything. I e-mail photos to people’s text address. I’ll probably play with it but I doubt it’ll be my standard.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:21 am
I got the message the other day. But I have yet to check to see if my MMS is working yet.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:24 am
@ Breezy
I love the **** that they will tell you
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:35 am
To those who have mms LEGITIMATELY
How did you get 5.1, was it through iTunes or over the air!?
Did you get any kind of notification!?
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:43 am
Does anyone know if Indiana users are getting early mms usage?
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:51 am
Do you need to do anything to get MMS or does it just start working?
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:58 am
Congrats to all those who have been patiently waiting for MMS, that have it already, as i have. Well i guess i havent been so patient…..I’ve been MMSing since the launch of the 3GS=]
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:03 am
Will I have to sync with itunes Friday to make it work
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:04 am
@ Spiff
What do you mean “legitimately”? For those of us who have had it just pop up…or “hacked” it….is it stealing in anyway? My message plan on ATT is unlimited audio, video, and text(non iphone plan)….Im technically paying for what im using. I dont think anyone could MMS without changing their actually plan to allow it. Is it wrong because we activated it before we had daddy Apple and mama ATT tell us we could. I think we’re just as legitimate as those who allow ATT to call all the shots.
I even feel the same for tethering. Im still 3.01 and i have no plans to update just yet. I tether WELL within the 5gb and I feel no convinction that i stealing or bucking the system. Sure ATT says we’re hurting towers by tethering(whatever), but thats their fault the slow, ungrateful, non upgrading, microcell-selling-when-they-need-to-update-towers bums. ATT is full of it. Why they got the iPhone exclusive….ill never know
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:13 am
@SomeGuy
I mean without the hack…. Officially would be a better term.
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:22 am
I assume I don’t have MMS working since the camera picture is not next to the text imput.
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:48 am
@poorpimp – I have the updated carrier file and I have no MMS in Indy.
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:50 am
@Matty – some have installed the carrier file early which give you access to the photo button in the Messages app. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have the ability to send though.
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:53 am
i was told by them it will be an over the air update. i wonder if they can even have enough bandwidth for that let alone the first people sending annoying amounts of mms. guess we will see
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:01 pm
MMS working here in Atlanta. The other day my “email to text” number sequence changed. So I loaded the 5.1 carrier file and MMS worked. JB’n 3.0.1 3GS.
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:06 pm
I haven’t got the text from ATT here in Southern California. I agree with the others that have said this, but I highly doubt they will have MMS working for everyone on Friday. I think that they are going to roll it out in phases so they don’t “overload” their network. If this turns out to be true and I don’t have MMS on Friday, I am going to call and complain since that’s false advertising. Heck, maybe I can get a credit or something since I’m still within my 30 days cancellation period!
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Thank you Al… Fort Wayne
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:20 pm
My computer is fried so I can’t get the latest update from iTunes so I guess I’ll have to wait until I get a new computer or try and get mine fixed.
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:40 pm
So how do I get the carrier file 5.1? Will I have to get it from iTunes??? Or is there a nother way to get it ????
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:51 pm
OMFG, im in 2005!!! MMS IS WORKING FOR ME!!! WASHINGTON DC.
yeah, caps were necessary.
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:51 pm
I’ve been an AT&T wireless customer since 2000 and I’ve have MMS for most of them Until the iPhone 2G. My lowly Razr was able to do everything a cell phone should do well (except Internet was slow). Even voice dialing worked pretty well. Friday will come and go and I still won’t be able to text pictures. I guess I could put the sim back in my V3xx and use my 2G like an itouch.
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:53 pm
I have heard different reports on how the carrier will get to us, via itunes or airway. and I have been to many forums, to get more info and to make better since of it all. and it doesn’t help, when the forums are flooded by those who jailbroke their iphone. I would like to hear real result from real non-JB iphone users. oh btw, no mms here. 3.1/5.0
September 23rd, 2009 at 1:05 pm
did anyone here who received the text from AT&T, still have MMS working via the carrier file?
September 23rd, 2009 at 1:10 pm
I’mma let you finish but the iPhone’s MMS is nothing like BlackBerry’s! BlackBerry has the best MMS ever… EVER!
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Since MMS goes through data adding MMS for iPhones is just upping the data capacity. Yes
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:09 pm
AT&T MMS Update: We know you’ve been eager for this service so we wanted to offer a quick update on the launch plans for MMS on Friday, Sept. 25. Late morning, Pacific Time, on Friday, the new carrier settings update enabling MMS should be live and ready …to download through iTunes. We’ll provide the steps and all of the details you need right here at that time.
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
anyone with facebook, goto facebook.com/att for more imfo.
September 23rd, 2009 at 4:05 pm
I’ve yet to receive the text message from AT&T. I’ve got a 3G. Looking forward to the 25th. – Va Beach, VA.
September 23rd, 2009 at 5:29 pm
Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but be careful when you get your first bill after they turn MMS on. When Rogers (in Canada) turned MMS on a couple months ago, it was NOT included in my “unlimited” messaging plan, and it was costing me $0.50/message for outgoing AND incoming. I called them and, since all new plans included MMS along with SMS in the unlimited messages, they added it to my account. Just a heads up that the same thing might happen with AT&T…
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Didn’t get the message but my mms is working as of today. In Kingston, PA.
September 23rd, 2009 at 6:44 pm
I notice that theres a new update for iTunes 9.0.1.8
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Mine has worked since Friday when I used the 5.1 file. Northwest CT. I still don’t have 3G though.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
I’ll believe it when I see it thank you!
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:07 pm
YEAH!!!!! I GOT MMS ON MY STOLEN IPHONE, JUST SENT A PIC OF MY LIMP D@$K TO MY EX!!! I SAY YES TO AT&T, I AM SOOOOO HAPPY, I WOULD SUCK THE CEO’S DI@$K!!!’nnn
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Nothing here in Grand Rapids MI yet. Welcome to the 19th century AT&T!!!
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:33 pm
My question is what will happen when I download the new carrier file through iTunes. Will it also force me to upgrade to 3.1? I don’t really want 3.1. Too many bugs. That, and it’ll kill my jailbreak.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Whorefantasy@ just read your post, and you have some serious issues my friend. I would not boast about a stolen phone, nor would I post the other issues you may have.
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:56 pm
I got the message on my iphone yesterday but still not working MMS
I think there was be a very large MMS spike on friday but other then that, i think the world will be fine and ATT will report on how good the launch went and the world will keep on turning.
September 24th, 2009 at 1:42 am
Used the Carrier 5.0 file for about a week, it never worked. Tried it tonight and I was able to receive and send pictures over WiFi and 3G. I live in San Diego, CA.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:48 am
No mms here… I just email people… 1112223333@mms.att.net……
September 24th, 2009 at 10:08 am
one more day iphone users. I think AT&T is doing a good job, if you sit and think about it, the iphone isn’t just a cell phone, it’s a mini computer. and as most computers they need updates. so lets stop pointing fingers at AT&T, it’s apple’s fault we didn’t have MMS from the start. Verizon would be in the same boat if they carried the iphone.
September 25th, 2009 at 12:39 am
Well it is 9/25 and I just checked for update to turn on MMS. Nope still no MMS.
September 25th, 2009 at 5:26 am
omg I just did the same thing and NO mms I’m about to call them
September 25th, 2009 at 5:54 am
Same here…north of ATL and still NO MMS. Itunes had an update during routine software update and I got all excited for NOTHING.
I did not receive that system msg from AT&T. The only other system message I got was the one stating that they were finished in ATL updating the towers and that was during the “summer”.
September 25th, 2009 at 8:38 am
does anyone know if taxes houston users are getting mms
September 25th, 2009 at 8:58 am
Did the iTunes update this morning. Still no MMS in Hudson, OH – between Akron and Cleveland. I haven’t received the text from AT&T either. Have the 5.0 Carrier file.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:32 am
well, they said LATE morning which probably means 11 am PST. or, if they’re anything like me, 6pm PST.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:07 am
The update isnt showing on my computer in Philadelphia. is this just one of those things i have to wait for later to do or is there something wrong?
September 25th, 2009 at 11:19 am
Still noting in northern Indiana
September 25th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Nothing yet in Indiana…..(12:45pm)
September 25th, 2009 at 12:15 pm

September 25th, 2009 at 12:30 pm

September 25th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Just got MMS here in Hawaii like 5 minutes ago while on this site… just updated on itunes… restarted my phone and it was there. was checking itunes every 5 mins for the update. yeah the update only took like 2 seconds.
September 25th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
If you got the carrier update, just reboot your phone and you’re good
September 25th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
I jus got the message an it says. AT&T Free Msg: Picture and video messaging (MMS) is now available for iPhone. Your existing messaging plan includes unlimited send and receipt of text, picture & video messages. To enable MMS, connect your iPhone to your computer and click “Check for Update” in iTunes, then restart your iPhone.- too bad im at work but i cant wait to get home!!!
September 25th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Ok i’m out here in las vegas nv….Got the mms working and it is great..finallly…Now i can start receiving and sending like the good old days i had before with sprint….lol… Got up this morning went into itunes(without the text message) plugged in and the update was there…restarted my iphone 3gs and bamm it’s working..send a few for humor to make sure it was working and yes it was….Finally….
September 25th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Just got it here in Hudson, OH. The Carrier Update shows up when you plug your phone into iTunes. It isn’t a regular software update that shows on your main screen. MMS is working after a reboot of my phone.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Nothing here in fort Wayne, IN
September 25th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Got it in fort wayne, IN @ 4:47pm
September 25th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
I spoke to soon. Every time I try to send a picture along with the message it times out and I get a red dot with an exclamation inside of it. If I tap that a message comes up that my MMS message has not been sent and I have the choice to resend or cancel. I’ve tried about 5 different ones and each has come back with the same response but one went through (somehow -even though every one has timed out) as I got a response from a friend.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
remember for the ones that can’t get the MMS to work still try a soft reset on your iphone….hold down the home screen button and the power button at the same time. until you see the apple appear then wait for the phone to reboot then try and send to someone a pic…should work fine after that…Remember AT&T are just getting this out there so behind so we’ll see how this ends up playing out right…..
September 26th, 2009 at 10:14 am
I GOT MINE TODAY AFTER I REBOOTED! THANKS APPLE……
October 4th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
The trick for me was the soft reboot. Even though iTunes rebooted my phone for me, that didn’t do the trick. I had to turn it off manually and then turn it back on.
