The wait is over ladies and gentleman. The Dev-Team has released their latest software to unlock iPhone 3G’s running the 3.0 software. Again, it is important to remember when a 3G S jailbreak application is released do not use Ultrasn0w with the iPhone 3G S.

To unlock your iPhone 3G 3.0 is as simple as jailbreaking your device, downloading Ultrasn0w via Cydia, and running the software. For full detailed directions be sure to check out the Dev-Teams blog.

Before you decide to jailbreak and unlock there are a few things you should know. If you do not know what you are doing – please do not attempt this as there is a possibility you can permanently damage your device. Regarding jailbreaking, remember most of the apps available will not work on 3.0 due to the developers not updating their apps yet. So be careful on what you install.

What does jailbreaking an unlocking do and are they the same thing

  5. Paul Burke Says:

Jailbreak – run unauthorized 3rd party apps.

Unlock – use your phone on another cellular network other than AT&T

(somebody can probably further clarify, if my terminology is wrong)

  6. danny Says:

    Thanks for the info

  7. Liam Says:

What happens if yu jailbreak the 3gs

  8. JDM Says:

    try it liam

  9. d.allen Says:

@liam.. there is no jailbreak out for the 3GS yet.. don’t use the jailbreak thats out now, or you could damage your phone.

  10. Jeff S Says:

I don’t see what the big fuss is about jailbreaking nowadays. Who cares about Winterboard. With the AppStore, video recording, MMS, tethering there’s not much point anymore. Plus the developers deserve the money you spend on the app store. Most of the stuffs dirt cheap anyways. All you do is void your warranty and lose alot of stability.

  11. JDM Says:

The big deal is for us people on other carriers who want the iPhone unlocked. I could care less about Cydia and Icy OTHER than the fact that that is where one runs to unlock.

  12. Dmys Says:

Jailbroke few days ago on my 3G with the redsn0w.

The only function I wanted was the camera so, it’s all good.

    I don’t mind AT&T, yet.

“Again, it is important to remember do not use Ultrasn0w with the iPhone 3G S.”

If the 3G S is yet to be jailbroken .. and you can only run Ultrasnow from a jailbroken 3G S phone .. what is this warning about ?

  14. daniel Says:

@hand me the gun… haha, good point

  15. Waffles Says:

So Ultrasn0w unlocks your phone to run on other networks… what happens when you restore your phone? (i.e., when a new software update is released) does that mean you are no longer unlocked? Or is it like the iPhone 2G unlock, where it flashes the baseband and permanently unlocks the device.

  16. Jeremy Sikora Says:

@hand me the gun… what if I know more than you and maybe just maybe the 3G S release is coming any day… ultrasn0w will not be compatible and this article will be posted for a long… time. Didn’t think of that did you? ;)

Hopefully that warning will cut down on confusion when that happens.

  17. Al Says:

That’s some nice temporal thinking Jeremy. I was jailbroken under 2.x but I will not be doing so anymore. I’m pretty computer savvy and I found myself constantly tweaking the jailbreak apps and my phone in general just to make it stable. I’m glad 3.0 gave me the functionality I needed because now I am free from jailbreaking and my phone is SO much faster and more stable.

  18. hand me the gun and ask me again Says:

    @Jeremy

I like it – forward compatible articles, now there’s some efficient writing …. although from what I picked up from the dev team blog, it might be a while until 3G S gets pwn’d due to the fact the hardware has changed and their nice exploit with it ….. (but i could be very wrong :)

  19. Dionte Says:

I switched over to windows 7 and used redsnow with no problem, on vista it wouldn’t work

  21. Seven Says:

Jail Break has a lot of advantage but the single fact is that the iPhone will not be as fast or sable after the jail break was good enough to keep me away from it. Although I will jailbreak now since apple has charged me on application I already purchased again and will not installed my backed up applications on iTunes. This is too much and unreasonable I will just use installous.

  22. Dom Says:

if my iphone breaks while it is jailbreaked, does this mean apple wont fix it bc they will know its jailbreaked

  23. brooklyn Says:
