iPhone Dev-Team to Demo 3.0 Unlock Tonight!

Just a little reminder for those of you who are waiting for the Dev-Team to unveil the 3.0 software unlock for iPhone 3G, there is a live demo tonight.
On Tuesday evening (just before the big Apple release) we’ll do a live demo of the yellowsn0w carrier unlock working on official 3.0 firmware. The actual link for the feed will be twittered by @MuscleNerd and also placed here when the feed starts. The demo should answer everything you need to know about the new yellowsn0w. But it’s good news for iPhone 3G unlockers everywhere.
Keep in mind this unlock will not work along with the iPhone 3G S hardware. It is noted they may or may not be working on cracking the latest Apple has to offer.
P.S. For the new iPhone 3GS, please don’t expect periodic updates about any progress we have or don’t have. Nothing gives Apple the upper hand like someone tweeting or blogging partial hack results.
The cat and mouse game continues…

Wow, didn’t take them very long! Good work.

Hopefully they will get the 3GS unlock out soon. Jailbreak too.

This is perfect timing for those upgrading their 3G phones to 3GS: now you can unlock your old phone to use with another SIM or for higher resale value on eBay.

Can someone explain the difference between unlock and jailbreak? I am eligible for the 3GS on 7/25 and want to sell my 3G on eBay. Other posters have said I will get more $ if I unlock/jailbreak the 3G before selling it. Once I unlock/jailbreak it, do I just remove the SIM and ship it to the winning bidder?
Thanks.

Jailbreaking allows you to install 3rd party applications, customize graphics, sounds, etc.
Unlocking allows you to use the phone on networks other than AT&T

The Dev-Team is always one step ahead of the game. Excellent job. I know I won’t jailbreaking my iPhone 3G or unlocking it when 3.0 comes out. I have no use for it.
Anyways, keep it up Dev-Team!

any word on the original 2G iPhone?

Jailbreak has to come on the same day as Unlocking since u can only Unlock on a jailbroken iPhone. So I guess they have 3.0 jailbroken too! Yeah!!
I want my multi-tasking, 3G for Skype/Slingplayer, themes, etc.
The question is: Will those software that allow multi-tasking, fooling the iPhone to think 3G is WiFi, Themes, work with 3.0 out of the box? Or will we need to wait for updates for all those also?

@Mike
I thought one could unlock an iPhone 2G/3G without necessarily jailbreaking it? I remember there was an option in QuickPWN (when I was jailbreaking/unlocking my 2G) to choose either jailbreak, unlock, or both.

what time is it going to be releaseddd?

I spoke with Saurik and he seems to think that converting the programs within Cydia will be a very quick process. He wasn’t sure how fast the Dev Team would get their jailbreak program out (a new QuickPwn I assume) but I guess this demo shows that it is already done. We should be tricking our 3GS’s into thinking we are watching Slingbox over WiFi by the weekend!

This is awesome! I was jailbroken but I’m going back to legitimate software as soon as 3.0 comes out. However, if I know I can unlock my 3G and sell it for a lot on ebay, I might be able to make enough to cover a new 3G S (at the slightly subsidized $399 price), I won’t buy it otherwise. This is good news!!
