WWDC 2009 - One Year Later, Light-Years Ahead

Will we see next generation iPhone handware? Will Apple release iPhone 3.0 or just more features for iPhone 3.0? Will MobileMe 2.0 be good to go? Will we have to sit through 8 excruciatingly long app previews like the last 3 iPhone keynotes? Will Scott Forstall say “blow us away”? And Will Steve Jobs show up in some way, shape, or Mobile iChat form to give that perfect “Boom!” or “One more–” accent to the show?

Everything before has been rumor, speculation, and question. Monday at 1pm EDT/10am PDT we get answers.

Join TiPb for a live meta-blog of of the WWDC 2009 Keynote as it unfolds. We’ll have analysis, color commentary, and a chat room going so you can tell us what you think.

this is going to be an epic win. I’m hoping to high heaven they the iChat/raised ear piece for iSight/ black matte/ matte bezel rumors are true

I think we’re all missing something. When Phil, Scott and company did the 3.0 roadmap they showed some cool things that we will be able to do with Bluetooth. Clearly, Apple was working with some software and hardware companies to demo how it all works. But I don’t see them doing the WWDC Keynote without a partner or two to support the new features with products that we will be able to buy almost immediately. My sense is that could be yet another reason why it appears like an earlier release for 3.0 firmware. Don’t ask me to speculate on what I think it is but something beyond iPhone hardware and software is going to make this release ‘Light-years Ahead’.

    please drop Monday.

I’m rooting for the iChat Steve jobs it would be so awesome!

  6. Rene Ritchie Says:

Can Apple really drop iPhone 3.0 release on Monday, when a large portion of their highest profile developers are going to be spending a week away from their offices.

If you were a dev, would you suddenly want 30+ million potential customers to be running your app on final release firmware you’d never hammered your code against?

And would you want to run screaming from WWDC to try and fix bugs on the road, on hotel wi-fi?

Apple may not care, but it would likely seriously p!$$ off their developers, no?

  7. Simba Says:

@Rene Not to be rude or anything, but isn’t the whole point with the iPhone platform that every single unit is exactly the same hardware- and software-wise? Sure, some bugs might appear but anyways.. It would be so super-awesome if Steve says: “Oh, and one more thing. This new iPhone, is available… now.” It’ll be mass-panic!

  8. BBYM Says:

@ Simba, It will not be available on monday. If you think about it lot of retailers like best buy would have it in stock in next couple of days and there would be leaks about (ME:))And lot of people would be pissed becouse of they didnt have time to go up and pick one up and it wasnt planed and bla bla bla…
