Rumor: Verizon Negotiating for iPhone in 2010?

USA Today rumors hope for the US’ largest network:
Verizon (VZ) and Apple (AAPL) are discussing the possible development of an iPhone for Verizon, with the goal of introducing it next year, people familiar with the situation say.
Talks, claim their unnamed sources, began before Steve Jobs’ leave of absence. How would this effect the major players:
Verizon would get the iPhone. Give Apple’s disinterest in CDMA, it would more likely be 4G LTE device, which Verizon has already been sniffing around. Given less than spectacular competitive launches of the Instinct and BlackBerry Storm, Verizon would get the highest profile smartphone on the fastest next-generation 4G LTE technology. Would it be ready by 2010? Either way, it would be a monstrous marketing coup that would prevent users from leaving the network for AT&T and may bring many who’d previously left running right back.
AT&T last quarter had the iPhone to thank for a large part of their results. 40% of iPhone activations went to new customers and 75% of net new bill-paying customers were iPhone users. If Verizon were to get the iPhone, even if non-exclusively, it would likely be a huge roshambo to AT&T’s bottom line. (Like why AT&T is trying to extend it’s deal with Apple).
Apple would gain access to Verizon’s monstrous user pool — people unwilling or unable to switch to AT&T for the iPhone. No carrier has complete coverage, after all, and Apple likely doesn’t want to see that large a group of customers left lying on the table.
We know many of you want to see your iPhone on Verizon, is 2010 soon enough for you? Or don’t you see AT&T giving up their golden exclusivity any time soon?

So Apple will make a special 4G LTE iPhone just for Verizon that can be used in 4 cities in 2010? Doesn’t make much sense, LTE won’t be every where that soon. I think AT&T would get an LTE version first that is 3G/4G radios and then when Verizon has more 4G coverage replacing EVDO Apple may throw them a bone. Plus you can be sure AT&T is going to push for being exclusive longer, never know what sweet deal they will throw at Apple.
April 27th, 2009 at 6:54 am
No way can AT&T lose their deal with Apple!
April 27th, 2009 at 6:56 am
Didn’t AT&T get 3G up in less then a year in anticipation of the 3G iPhone? Why couldn’t VZW get up new towers for 4G LTE?
If VZW can get the phone I bet they would hire a lot of people (which would be good in this economy) to get the towers up and everything ready in a year.
April 27th, 2009 at 7:04 am
Well I will be looking forward to seeing a lot more iPhones in New York. A lot of people , especially in long island have verizon.
I think this is great news for Apple. They will sell a lot more iPhones and will have a lot more than 1Bil downloads.
It makes sense to wait until LTE because they won’t have to make two different phones with different cellular radios.
April 27th, 2009 at 7:11 am
I am still on Verizon, awaiting the release of the next iPhone for this summer. If Apple is coming to VZW, then I may just have to hold out. I haven’t had any problems with VZW, however my contract is set to expire soon and I’m getting the iPhone itch. Are these rumors true or should I wait for the summer 09′ release?
April 27th, 2009 at 7:13 am
Internal VzW info here. Verizon will still be a CDMA carrier when they launch LTE. VZW will still be using CDMA as voice and EVDO but plans on putting LTE as their Data network. The reason it will take VzW longer to produce their 4g network vz AT&T’s 3g network is simple. AT&T 3g is an upgrade Data based on GSM. It wasn’t something that was incompatible with their network. VzW is a CDMA carrier which will have to have all their 4g Phones CDMA/GSM Hybrids like the Storm and they are going to a technology that their network is not based on. So they are not upgrading but actaully bringing in a whole new network to lay ontop of their existing network.
I doubt Apple will go with VzW and if they did put an iPhone on VzW’s network i wouldn’t buy it. VzW has the worst phones because they put the moast amount of Bloatware on their phones. The quality of that phone will be ruined…..
April 27th, 2009 at 7:17 am
If Verizon want a 4G LTE iPhone, the WHOLE network would need to be upgraded – that ain’t happening by 2015, much less 2010. AT&T get away with limited 3G coverage, because the iPhone drops back onto their GSM network – Verizon don’t have that luxury.
April 27th, 2009 at 7:40 am
lol. don’t fret. the iPhones not going anywhere. AT&T has 3G. when that fails u drop to edge. then if that fails gdsm. this is why the iPhone won’t go to verizon. apple would prefer their users always have service than have good service and no service. vzw if CDMA 3g fails u ur screwed till u find service
April 27th, 2009 at 7:43 am
April 27th, 2009 at 8:01 am
Verizon sucks!!!
April 27th, 2009 at 8:37 am
When I dropped my Verizon line last fall I told them if they ever got the iPhone I would come back. And I meant it.
That said, this is pretty irritating, because in June I was planning on buying the new iPhone and handing my 3G down to my wife & bringing her over from Verizon. Now I have to think twice about that because if Verizon gets the iPhone in 2010, not only would we need new hardware again, but we’d be in the middle of a 2 year contract.
April 27th, 2009 at 8:43 am
Saw this article on 9 to 5 mac last night. I would hate it if the IPhone went to verizon! I feel it would open a can of worms that apple is not ready for. But that is over a year away so let’s focus on June of this year. What are we getting?? The rumors on OUR next phone have been scarce. Cmon and get you private investigator hats on!
April 27th, 2009 at 8:47 am
@windbreak247 I wouldn’t let this rumor keep you from upgrading if there is a new iPhone this summer. All this Verizon talk is rumors and speculation.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:00 am
@llofte is correct, I’ll supersize the RUMOR flag and prepend it to the post title…
April 27th, 2009 at 9:04 am
Yeah guys there’s no way Verizon would be able to have a Decent enough 4G network finished by 2010.. you won’t see this for awhile i bet.
even if it does happen, Verizon would have to drop that lame Verizonware software they put on their phones and NOT put it on the iPhone. Would apple allow them to put Vcast on their iPhone? hell no.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:11 am
This could be exciting news – the iPhone could make some serious inroads with the Verizon customers. A lot of people are very loyal to Verizon, but sometimes I see them eyeing up my iPhone sort of half-pleading with me to let them have one. People on Verizon seem to want the iPhone for will not leave their cell provider for a million different reasons.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:15 am
I am NOT paying 150 BS early termination **** ever again. So, screw you verizon, although I still love your service.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:23 am
Pardon my ignorance! When they say that the deal ends in 2010 does that mean that Jan 1, 2010 that there is no more AT&T exclusivity or do we have to wait until Dec 31, 2010 before the contract between AT&T and Apple is done.
I have Verizon and am trying to determine if I should wait or not. I have the iphone itch also and am ready to make the jump.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:27 am
In 2008, I left Verizon, just to have the iPhone. VZ is awesome but come on, it’s the iPhone we’re talking about here. Anyhoo, AT&T would be crazy to not extend their exclusivity deal with the iPhone. For anyone who wants the iPhone, I would not wait for it to come to Verizon anytime soon. Even if the iPhone DID come to VZ, there’s no telling what VZ would do/impose on it. AFAIK, AT&T has given Apple a pretty good level autonomy (maybe too much sometimes). Just my opinions.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:46 am
soonest this happens q4 2011
April 27th, 2009 at 10:38 am
Anyone remember what Apple did with Marklar and the secret development of Mac OS X for Intel preceding the switch to Intel from the PowerPC processors?
Apple probably already has EV-DO CDMA iPhones up and running on the Cupertino campus. Would it be that hard to suddenly open up if Ivan Seidenberg (Verizon’s CEO) had a fat wad of cash, handed it to Apple, and paid them to break the exclusitivity contract? I would imagine there’s an ETF on Apple’s contract with AT&T, I couldn’t envison Apple not giving themselves an out in case they wanted to sell on other providers.
This is not out of line with Apple’s modus operandi.
April 27th, 2009 at 10:40 am
After AT&T’s earnings call, the NY Times ran an interesting piece where they (the Times) estimated iPhone exclusivity has provided AT&T with at least $700 million/year in operating profit. With that much at stake for AT&T, Apple would be stupid not to sniff around Verizon now, while the AT&T contract is under discussion.
Best case — Apple extracts the same deal with Verizon they did with AT&T, so that Cupertino retains total control of the build and loaded software, and Apple opens up a huge new customer base for the iPhone. Worst case — AT&T pays through the nose to maintain that exclusivity. Either way, unless they vastly overplay their hand with either carrier, Apple wins.
(Link to NY Times bit, if anybody is interested) http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/22/why-att-wants-to-keep-the-iphone-away-from-verizon/
April 27th, 2009 at 10:45 am
I can’t stand Verizon. They have great coverage where I live, but I can’t stand their rediculous modifications to their phones. I don’t understand how they can charge $50 more than Sprint for a Touch Pro and cut the ram and lock the GPS. It’s insane. Not to mention, you don’t save anything over AT&T plans. I’m scared to think what VZW would do to the iPhone. Even if they did get it, as mentioned earlier, Apple would still have to slap in a CDMA radio for voice, even if they did put in LTE radios for darta. And by the time the AT&T exclusivity ends, there’s no chance that nationwide LTE coverage would even exist from any carrier. It’s not cost effective for Apple. More than likely the price would be rediculous. I just don’t know if they really could put the iPhone on any other US carrier. Even on T-Mobile, they would have to build in a 1700 3G radio and T-Mobile would have to get their data network together. How would they differentiate it? It would be confusing for customers and that would be completely against Apple’s business model and their ecosystem of **** cool easy gadgets.
April 27th, 2009 at 11:31 am
My contract is up this summer with att. I have the 1st gen iPhone. I plan on buying the new one if it comes out. Do I have to renew my contract with att just by getting a new iPhone? I had Verizon and never had a problem with them but I wanted the iPhone despite the switch of carriers. I think it would be ridiculous if I had to renew my contract with AT&T. ATT needs to get their act together cuz they know they’ll lose customers because of their service. If verizon does pickup the iPhone then I’ll move to them since I’m prior service. With that I cine back to my question. I don’t want to extend my contract if I get the new phone. Heck, I’ll probably just wait till 2010. Any info?
April 27th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
I don’t see how it could support LTE-only. It would have to be backward compatible to Verizon’s CDMA/EVDO network. LTE-only wouldn’t make sense until like 2014-15 at the earliest.
April 27th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
I just left verizon just to get my hands on the iPhone and I tell you one thing I love the iPhone and I thing the service of at&t it’s not so bad, well I don’t make a lot of calls bad I do text and search the net and it work really good. I used to be on verizon and yes the service is good but I can’t see verizon having the iPhone I thing they would destroy it with their app store which it sucks!!!! Big time or with other **** you know. I think AT&T should step up and make their service much much better and hold on to the iPhone some how and make all the people on verizon that wants the iPhone cry about it
.
I’ll tell you one thing I left verizon and if they get the iPhone I would never go back to them
April 27th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
I left Verizon back in early 2008 for the iPhone (1st gen). In my area, Verizon has the best service and any GSM carrier sucks. I don’t want to give up my iPhone but AT&T’s service is horrible where I live. I would switch back to Verizon if they had the iPhone in a heartbeat, but on one condition. They don’t put ANY bloatware on it. But I don’t see that happening.
April 27th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
what is wrong with you people, At&t is completely weak and they completely suck.. just get a new plam Pre phone from Sprint than drive to your local Verizon store to have it turn on there network, easy as that but you have to wait till May 15th for the palm pre.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
People people come on VERIZON SUCK’S an they would destroy the iPhone on their network
April 27th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Verizon had it’s chance to get it and they said no and now that they see so many people leaving to get the iPhone now they want it. Too bad
April 27th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
you have to be kidding that you feel verizon cant handle the iphone!!!!! I had the iphone with at&t and it sucked as a phone!!! I had dropped calls 24/7 and no one could hear me!!! sure its cool phone but I brought my iphone back to at&t and bought the iphone touch!!! i have a cell on verizon and never ever have call problems!!! verizon is the best!!!!
May 6th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
“Doesn’t make much sense, LTE won’t be every where that soon. I think AT&T would get an LTE version first that is 3G/4G radios and then when Verizon has more 4G coverage replacing EVDO Apple may throw them a bone.”
Not true, verizon already has 4g in minessota columbia and northern new jersey…verizon will switch and have every city to 4g in 2010 so the LTE Iphone will work with verizon
May 15th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
I have alot of friends with I Phones..and one thing they all have in common is that they hate the customer service with AT&T….I have Verizon..but really want the I PHone..I am just scared to change…I can bring my phone into the Verizon store if ever I have a problem which has been rare over the past seven years…..they fix it or give me a new one..no hassle…but they do either block or remove features from their phones..it is weird…I love my VZ Navigator…it has saved me a bunch!
May 16th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
I see it as this… 80+ million possible iPhone subscribers. For now it is probably in Apple’s best interest to stick with AT&T (unless Verizon is a lot cloer to LTE transition than I know of) but once the technologies are compatible Apple would be a fool not to open up to Verizon. Verizon just has to sit back and let Apple do their thing, of which it does seem hard for them to do that, like a micro-managing manager. Eventually, once all AT&T customers are on iPhone, Apple would have to boraden their market or risk implosion.
May 22nd, 2009 at 7:00 am
I don’t understand why all the AT&T customers are angry or scared Verizon customers might get the iphone? Been reading the posts here and it is ridiculous. Come on, does it matter to you? So stupid, this “I have an iphone and you can’t” attitude makes no sense; bunch of selfish babies. The iphone is the best phone out there and all of us Verizon people want it, but AT&T service is horrible and I won’t switch just for a phone. Hopefully Verizon and Apple will make a deal soon, but for now I’ll take an ipod touch instead….
May 30th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
All you verizon lovers listen don’t get upset with the at&t people verizon had a chance to take all of you into the next century with the must have phone but the old farts over at verizon didn’t want to make the jump they wanted to control the phone with all the junk they put on it they should have made the deal when they had the chance. I am an iphone owner and at7t user i would never go to verizon first I need minutes to use I can pay a fee to get early nights verizon won’t give that option who the **** wants to wait until 9pm to have free calling and as far as service i have a cellphone repater in my car and home so service is not a problem for me ever even had service good service in the mountains in west virginia. verizon needs to open up verizon is an old mans cellphone company they need to open it up to the young.
June 5th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
NO WAY THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AT&T AND IPHONE GO HAND IN HAND AND THIS WOULD MAKE AT&T GO OUT OF BUSINESS!
June 10th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
As much as I want an new iPhone I’d not go to AT$T if they gave me a FREE iPhone
June 14th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
AT&T ’s cover sucks brake up calls , no service in buildings like hospital and airports. It is time vor Apple to look at a better provider like Verizon.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Why can it not be like in europe ? you buy the phone you like and then select your provider so you get plan you want!! what is the problem with that U.S.A??
June 16th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Guys, the bottom line is this: VERIZON has 55 percent of the marketshare in the US. 55 FREAKING PERCENT. If Apple releases it into that market tons of people, like myself, will buy it. Apple profit HUGE. Jobs may be crazy but he sure as s*** isn’t stupid. Profits are the bottom line, this is business after all and there is no way apple is going to pass on 80 million customers just to say they are “loyal” to AT&T
June 16th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
I do NOT want verizon to get the iphone. They will destroy it! The so called rumors of verizon being better are just that – RUMORS. I had verizon, t-mobile, altell, and Sprint. I currently have AT&T, and an iphone, LOVE IT. Verizon service-horrible, always dropped, had that junk of a phone, blackberry storm, it was ALWAYS dying. My first one was DOA, and after the endless updates….it would crash. Verizon refused to swap out my defective phone after the second died and told me that i’d have to pay 50, despite the fact that it had a 1 year m. warranty and no damage to it. If they got the iphone, they would force there horrible, unreliable os overtop apple’s or attach it in a way that people would eventually turn on the iphone. I know that verizon was the carrier of choice, but am so thankful that it landed in AT&T/Cingulars lap. NO VERIZON IPHONE EVER!!!! You’ve damaged the other manufactures concepts…leave it alone
June 19th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
I think this will be cool. I have verizon and I really would like the iPhone. (: Sorry.
June 23rd, 2009 at 2:38 am
Can’t believe there is no mention of the cost of at&t service vs Verizon. I have Sprint now which in my area is comperable to the cost Verizon and would gladly switch for the iphone if it wern’t for at&t’s much higher monthly rate.
June 23rd, 2009 at 12:05 pm
I am a loyal Verizon customer and would love to have an iPhone. AT&T wireless screwed me over big time years ago. They sent me a broken phone. It worked for about 48 hours and then died. I sent it back, they told me that I broke it and charged me a $200 replacement fee. After talking to bosses’ bosses, I eventually got a vice president of something or other on the phone. He called me a liar and said that it’s impossible for AT&T to send me a broken phone. He also threatened to go after my credit if I didn’t pay. So I paid the $200 and I told him as long as I live I will never pay them another cent. 7 years later, I enjoy knowing AT&T has lost all that money from me (about $8,400 and counting). Turns out that where I live in Los Angeles, Verizon has much better reception than AT&T anyway. So while I envy all my friends iPhones, I will go without forever rather than write a check to AT&T.
July 2nd, 2009 at 10:33 am
I’ve been with Nextel(now sprint), AT&T and Verizon. I have to say, I almost left VZW for the iphone, I’m glad I did not. I personally HATE ATT. My mom is with them and her coverage sucks. She is always dropping calls. VZW (for me) has had the most reliable coverage, I ALWAYS have a signal and I can’t remember the last time a call was dropped. I looked at the VZW netbooks, and the told me at the VZW store that they are trying to roll out a 4G network next year. I hope the iphone comes to VZW because I’m sure not leaving my fabulous coverage just for a fancy phone!
July 4th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Everybody above that said Iphone won’t go to VZW are obviously ignorant people that have no idea what they are saying. Yes the Iphone is coming. BTW T-Mobile will have it as well. FYI – Comes with a removable battery. FYI again….my friend already has it on T-Mobile thanks to jail break. Anyway…I have seen the talks…somes specs…some detail…some images. So no one should say its not coming after this message. PS….Apple wants to make the most money….why stay with any ONE company. Come on, that is simple economics.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
AT&T service sucks and sucks bad. I had them for many years and I had call after call dropped. Their bills are never the same one month it will be XX and next month it is ZZ, and I’m thinking WTF, I found out the more you use your phone the more they charge you. That is ****.
I would not go back with AT&T if they were the last company in business. I left Verizon to go with AT&T and what a mistake it was, and now I’m back with Verizon.
July 10th, 2009 at 12:53 am
Go verizon apple should make a verizon iphone since verizon has almost 2x as many customers. Also i have verizon and my cousin has at&t and when ever he doesnt have service i do. Go verizon!!
July 11th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Does anyone know if there are any talks of Sprint getting an iPhone since they are CDMA as well? I would love to switch to Verizon (or even ATT for that matter) but I can’t. Where I go to college there is Verizon service but no ATT and at home there is ATT but no Verizon. FML. Sprint is the only one that has coverage in both places.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:21 am
@Linzey Just get a Palm Pre unlimted everything plan and problem solved money saved over both verizon and att!
July 17th, 2009 at 10:35 am
It is 100% possible for Verizon to have an iPHONE that supports EV-DO/CDMA 1X/ and LTE. The trials included tests for data/calls going in and out of LTE to CDMA. I refuse to mess with ATT ever again, so switching from T-Mobile (current carrier) to Verizon iPhone will happen for me (if Apple makes the phone).
July 18th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
I’ve been waiting forever to get my hands on an iPhone. As a Verizon customer for more than 10 years partly due to the fact that I get excellent customer service and it’s the only service worth a damn in the woods surrounding my hometown. Until then I will suffer through life with my crappy MotorolaQ.
August 13th, 2009 at 3:32 am
I have been a verizon customer for over five years and I hate verizon. Their phones are highly overpriced despite the “new every two discount” their customer service reps are rude and condescending if you can even tell what they are saying over their thick indian accent. I had cingular before I switched to verizon and never had any of the problems that I had with verizon. I am now an AT&T customer and I couldn’t be happier. Not only do I now have the phone I have wanted since it came out, but the contract is simple and not filled with loop holes like verizon. AT&T reps are helpful, the prices are much better and AT&T does a much better job of promoting the iPhone. Verizon would ruin the iPhone much like they ruined motorola.
August 21st, 2009 at 1:08 pm
To the person who said that theres no way AT&T would give up their deal with apple… They already have because the contract said 2 years exclusive so now that it’s up they can give it to anyone they want.
September 5th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
I would be so happy if Verizon got the iPhone. I want one so bad but Verizon is the only provider with service where I live (and almost anywhere for that matter). I’ve never had a problem with Verizon. Hopefully they keep the iPhone software though because the Verizon stuff would ruin it. And lucky for me I get a new every two next summer.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
My iPhone doesn’t work on the AT&T network! Join the protest: http://tinyurl.com/nl8n5n
September 9th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
I hope that Verizon do get the New Iphone next years that best think that Verizon have done.ATT will lost alot they Customer.Do u know that u can get Verizon line and Mobile Web for less then ATT.
September 10th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
VERIZON sucks!! AT&T Sucks also…. TMobile wins,, it has cheap plans and to think who knows they might win the iphone (gsm)
September 25th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Verizon has better all over service than any other plan. If it wasn’t for the i-phone AT&T would have probably gone out of business…
October 1st, 2009 at 7:36 pm
I had Att before Cingular took it over and then returned to the Att name. Att has always sucked as far as signal strenth and customer service. I use to drop calls at particular areas driving on I-95 south (in FL). **** Att. The reason they’re in business is because of Apple and its iphone. So if VZ gets the iphone I’m down with that.
For those that say that VZ would destroy the iphone if VZ put its software on it I offer this. Apple would basically tell VZ hey you get the Iphone and your software becomes an optional app. So if they wanted the VZNavigator it would be an app. If someone wanted Rhapsody or what not it would be an app. Get it. So all this talk that VZ would destroy an Iphone is B.S. it just would be an optional app just like everything else on the Iphone.
Can’t wait for Verizon to get this thing as I will not even bother going back to ATT ever!!!!!
October 2nd, 2009 at 1:01 pm
Can verizon handle the increase is customers if they get the iphone cause att will lose many subscribers?
October 2nd, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I’d actually like to see Verizon get the iPhone. I highly dislike the service they provide and customer service sucks in their stores. I was a contract holder with them twice and cancelled them twice because of it. I love my iPhone and although the network isn’t the most reliable, AT&T has awesome customer service. So with that all said, let Verizon release their version with Apple, allowing non AT&T loyal users to leave the network freeing up bandwidth and allowing us access to a faster network to those that stay with AT&T!!
October 4th, 2009 at 12:29 am
“there not losing the deal” the contract between apple and at&t is over and apple has a decision to either resign or open up to other services. And for all you people saying “they would be crazy not to extend there service” , they want to but it is up to apple if there are going to be able too cause they dont have to extended anything and could make a lot more money opening it up to any service.
October 6th, 2009 at 3:02 am
mi englis is no so good. i do not like the att. i want iphone to go to verizon wireless. i think verizon better much than the att. please verizon, please get iphone and make many mexican people happy. thank you. jesus dominguez roca
October 6th, 2009 at 3:07 am
Hallo. Yes, mexican people would be much happy if vierzon has the ihpone. much more happy than with att. people of mexico, stand up for right to get iphone to the verizon wirless. VIVA mexico. Jesus, como esta de la nueve? Mi amo es miguel, Que es su numero del telephono?
October 8th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
verizon should get the iphone, otherwise, most of us switch side and go to ATT. Verizon does not a phone that can match the iphone. We expect Verizon will listen to its loyal customers and get Verizon as soon as possible!!!
October 12th, 2009 at 3:32 am
I was told by a verizon employee they were getting the iphone. I would place my money that around June 2010 apple unveils a new iphone that just happens to run on the vzw network.
October 13th, 2009 at 10:35 am
Here’s the bottom line…people are on here disputing customer service related issues and things of that nature. We’ll get down to it, but first things first…I’ve worked at Verizon and am now an employee with AT&T. Customer service-wise, in ANY verizon store, you walk in and you are a number, not a name. And the reps treat you just like that. Furthermore, to the dimwit that said AT&T’s calling plans are more expensive…theyre exactly the same, so learn up before posting. Now onto the facts…Verizon is on CDMA which everyone should well be aware of by now. Currently they are running TESTS in select areas. And its not even in major cities. So do you really think that the first place Verizon is going to deploy LTE is in a rural outback in a no-name city in wisconsin?? They are running TESTS…can i reiterate that ONE more time?!? Also, somebody touched on it earlier and if I could I would reach through the computer and shake their hand because they clearly stated that VzW is CDMA based voice and they plan on doing LTE data. The upgrade to a 4G network for AT&T is just that…an upgrade. It can be done just as quick as 3G was launched. For verizon to convert to LTE will take a LOOOOOOONG time. They have to re-construct the whole network and start from the ground up. Converting existing devices to LTE…and in the meantime, what is that going to do to their customer base? Customers will have to get different handsets once LTE is in full effect. In regard to the younger up to middle-aged group, that might not be that big of a deal as most would jump at a chance to get a new phone, BUT what is that saying about the customer base thats fine with their phone, that isn’t always looking for the hottest thing, the ones that settle with what they have. They’ll get rebellious customers and their so-called loyal customers will become customers to someone else. Its simple! Launching VzW on LTE is not around the corner…its not even down the street, so for those hoping to get it, you’d be able to switch to AT&T and complete your full 2 year contract, before VzW is coming close to running the iphone! And then I really wanted to point out the guy that said he didn’t want to have to renew his contract to get a new iphone??? WHERE have YOU been? With EVERY carrier, you have to renew your contract to receive the discount on ANY new product, otherwise, youre buying it at full retail. IF you plan to post, please know your facts. If you have the 1st Gen iPhone, and you didn’t know you had to renew your contract, then youre obviously a 1st Gen phone buyer period. Either that or you’ve been the one getting FREE phones all your life. Anyway, I’m done rambling. But to say VzW won’t get the iphone would be far-fetched, but to say that it will be anytime soon would also be very far-fetched. Despite what their reps might tell you, its nowhere close. Not even remotely. And its not because I work at AT&T or that I can’t stand Verizon…its that I base it off of facts, and if you read up about it enough, you will come to the same consensus.

I am a VZW Executive. We have been in major talks with Apple and Steve Jobs for months now. We are no where near a launch for a VZW Iphone. Sorry to bust your bubble loyal VZW customers / Iphone nuts. Check back in 5 years.

AT&T might exclusively own its network but it does not own the customers. Bring iPhone to verizon immediately!

I heard from a Verizon insider that they are testing an iPhone already…. I, for one, will be soooo happy to transfer back to Verizon after putting up with the worst service I’ve ever experienced with AT&T.

Have an iPod Touch and a Verizon LG phone. Want the iPhone LOTS, but I won’t become an AT&T customer. Maybe if Apple does a contract with Verizon, getting an incredible number of new customers, the iPhones will be further reduced in price. We can only hope! Fingers and toes crossed…….

Wake up everyone! Verizon runs on the CDMA network, which means they will NEVER get the iphone. CDMA does not allow data connections while you are on the phone, which is an essential feature on the iphone (collective ohhhhhhhhh). As a (successful) medical device representative, I cannot fathom asking a doctor if I could call him back in the emergency room because I cannot pull up information off my company’s network while on the phone (and driving down the highway at 80MPH). Asking a doctor if you can call him right back is one of the quickest ways to lose a customer! Therefore, I could not see using any of Verizon’s phones, even if they came out with a CDMA iphone. Just my 2 cents.

I hope it DOES go to VZ. Would make sense for Apple. Why have 1 vendor when you can have 2 vendors hocking your product. More money for them.
PLUS it would serve those AT&T Nazis right. AT&T Hit you with a PDA Data plan automatically just for having an IPhone OR a WM phone at $30 per phone, no exceptions. If you have I have thier unlimited txt and unlimited data it covers all the needs for half the price. They con you in to saying you get a faster speed for having it HOGWASH. I have had both…no difference. With 3 phones thats an extra $90 a month….my home high speed internet isnt THAT MUCH. AT&T Sucked then they merged with Cingular…then it was just Cingular….which actually was pretty good, then back to AT&T again suck squared.
I would switch……correction AM switiching same plan, more features….more coverage less price. BTW hellllooo people….YOUR AN IDOT. you may be a sucessful MDR….but your an idot. If your on the phone talking, surfing the company network AND driving 80 freaking MPH….I hope your the only person that involved in the wreck your going to cause. My 16 year old has better sense than that. Pull off the damn road *******. Your the kinda driver that pisses the rest of us off

I don’t see any reason for the iphone not to go to verizon. After reading through all these comments, I just have to laugh at all those saying VZ will ruin it with their VZ Apps/VZ Tunes etc. Do you really think Apple would let them do that…NO! VZ would be stupid to pass on the iphone just because Apple wont let them use their app and music programs. Blackberry on verizon uses its own app store not verizons. The only VZ blackberry app is the music and tone store, which makes sense because blackberry doesnt have their own program for that. Bottom line, Apple would be smart to move to VZ and att users have no reason to argue because its most likely that VZ wont get anything special that you can’t.

Wake up AT&T losers. Your just jealous at the thought of Verizon taking your exclusive little phone. Pick up a copy of January 2010 Consumer Reports and see how bad you $uck across our great country. You even rank below sprint. LMAFAO at you pathetic AT&T cry babies.

I hate AT&T, but they were the only ones that had access to the Iphone. I have emailed AT&T many times about their misleading commercials with the Wilson boy.
1) The most popular phone is the Iphone, period. 2) The only reason why they are the fastest 3G service is because they have alot less people that recieve 3G. Imagine it like this, when yoru at work and not alot of people are at work with you on your server, how fast are the computers, now on a normal way when there are alot of people there, how slow do the computers go. The more people you have on your network, the slower it goes. The less people you have, the faster it goes. 3) AT&T sucks so bad, they even have and app for that, its called Mark The Spot. 4) Verizon, I would love you if you got the Iphone access, do it!
