App Store Sells 1 Billion Apps. With a B.
What else is there to say? Through the App Store, we all have purchased one billion apps from developers and Apple. From productivity to games to Twitter Clients to Cat Twitter Clients to, yes, body function emulators. Crazy thing is, we would have bought even more if Apple would have rejected so many. There are over 35,000 apps in the store now, if you didn’t know, another towering achievement.
So kudos to you, Apple, for finally getting mobile apps right. Kudos to you, developers, for churning out so much great stuff. And finally, kudos to you, iPhone user, for laying down your hard-earned and showing the world that people will pay good money for good software if they’re just given the chance.

I’m betting that the winner will be someone who bought their iPhone today and had never even heard of iTunes yesterday.

I think is “downloaded” 1 billion apps, not sold. Many (most?) were free downloads.

ime, that’s because there are other countries who use $ but the value is different. I find it funny how Americans never have a +1 in front of their phone number as if the whole world needs to know the US international code by heart.

They allowed non-purchase or dl entries by filling out a form so did those count as “downloads”? The contest rules stated that if one of these entries was entered after 999,999,999 that they could be the winner… Seems that would skew the numbers, too, and negate the whole hype around the countdown.

I think if it wasn’t for the iPod and iTunes , this wouldn’t be possible.
But really , Kudos to Apple for creating a ecosystem for a mobile phone where music and applications are easy to access.

Gartner and Assoc estimated that only 25 to 30 percent of that 1B are paid apps. No a bad business model, so along as Apple is getting 30% of the take. Remember nothing is free in life.
