AT&T Outage: AGAIN!?

So once again AT&T seems to be having issues. TiPb reported on the two previous outages, which seemed to affect a much larger area then the current outage.
I read one report of someone in Philadelphia on the forums today, did not think much of it until I read a post on BGR just now. According to a BGR tipster this outage is affecting Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. It is creating the inability to hear the party on the other end of the line during outbound and inbound calls. Data at this point does not seem to be affected.
AT&T is said to be well aware of the situation and is working on getting it back up to be fully operational. So just how many of our readers are currently having issues? Anyone?

Im having issues in Casselberry, florida
January 16th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
I’m in Park City, UT for Sundance. All of us ATT users are experiencing consistently failed calls. This started yesterday.
January 16th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Beaumont, CA, off and on all morning, mostly off.
January 16th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Data is down in Michigan… Cant send or receive mms on blackberry Bold… Called ATT and was told 9 states are OUT…
January 16th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Wow, this is pretty random in terms of the states it is affecting… very odd.
January 16th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
In Yucaipa, CA, I haven’t had service for 4.5 hours now! Ticked off!
January 16th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Seriously guys, I’m not even a native speaker of English, and I know the difference between “affect” and “effect”.
Your sentence should read: “seemed to AFFECT a much larger area”
Effect (with an E) refers to the outcome of something.
Affect (with an A) refers to the action of disturbing something.
Your bad spelling is the EFFECT of a horrible educational system in the US that AFFECTS everyone who attends a school in the country.
January 16th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
@Jaimex – wow, sue me. I had two out of three “AFFECTS” right… corrected the one that bothers you so.
January 16th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Lost voice service for several hours this morning in Philadelphia. Not sure if it’s related to what others here were experiencing. Other iPhone users nearby reported the same problem. I could make and receive calls and hear the party on the other end but they could not hear me. No problems with data/MMS. Got real strange when I called someone else with an iPhone – we essentially had a call going with no audio on either side but a strange static-y sound. Seems to have resolved itself around 11:30 am ET.
January 16th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
yea last 2 days ive been having failed calls, fails sending txt messages, tried calling my iphone, goes to voicemail alot….change it to Edge network, turn 3g off and it will work fine!!! location – Atlanta GA
January 16th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
I experienced some problems with some incoming phone calls this morning in Fairfield, CT
January 16th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Redlands, CA – has been down all day. I am near Beaumont, and Yuciapa, CA and can confirm service is shot for the last 5 or more hours.
January 16th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
Had the voice-out problem this morning 8:45-10:00 AM in the NJ suburbs of Philly. Service seemed to be restored by around 10-10:30.
This was observed by four people here.
January 16th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
kingston ny – nothing but dropped calls…AT&T told me they had no info on when it would be fixed at this point and said that if i’m getting any calls at all to go through, i’m ‘lucky’…
January 16th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
I’m in Yucaipa. Service is still down. Where can we get info on this situation?
January 16th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Major downage in San Bernardino California…down for several hours now. This blows!
January 16th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
I’m in San Bernardino. And I’ve been having outages all day long.
January 16th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
it is still messed up here in Redlands, CA… and really driving me crazy! It barely even get one text out.
January 16th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
I talked to an AT&T rep, they said the phone whould have problems through the weekend. I’m in Redlands Ca also, I havent had service since 10am today
January 16th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
I’m in Yucaipa as well with no services since we got up this morning… sadly it is our only phone! Major bummer! Feel like the Dinosaur Ages!
January 16th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Same here. Been down since I woke up and now its 4:47PM out of work and still down at home in Redlands! My co worker was down too and my Husband. Weird!
January 16th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
I talked to a rep as well they had no idea when service would be restored. Not sure why the media has not picked up on this major outage.
January 16th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Yucaipa, CA outage since around 7:00am today. Spoke to AT&T rep not long ago, like Kevin did, and she said there was a “BIG network issue” eminating from Riverside, CA. Duh!
No quote on when I might see service. She did promise that the repair crews will work all weekend until it’s fixed. Well I’m glad they aren’t taking the 3-day weekend off.
Has anyone seen an official AT&T posting or quote online anywhere? What happened? I’d like to see a picture of the doofus that caused all this.
Once service is back, I recommend we all ask AT&T for a refund for service lost, for all the lines on our accounts, even if it’s just our monthly rates, pro-rated.
January 16th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Cell phone service has been up and WiFi working fine, but no 3G or EDGE available. Since I’m unable to utilize my unlimited data plan, I feel they should indeed refund $1 for each day that service is unavailable.
January 16th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Im in Big Bear Lake, CA, near Riverside. Ive had an outage all day. Iphone still reads ‘no service’. This needs to be handled by tomorrow.
January 16th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
yucaipa calif. jan 16th 2009, all my family has been without service all day, called AT&T and they checked my account for 15 minutes then announced i must be part of the outage…how do i get out of this C.S.O. can i get out of my contract for their failure to provide service? jack
January 16th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Not having any problems in los angelos.
Ughh can’t believe some foreign guy wants to tell us superior Americans how to speak English! Jaimex99= This forum is for Americans! Hence the name AT&T! Which isn’t available to you commi’s! English is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn because we don’t clap clop our tounges or scream Allah in the air. So please.. Go reincarnate or self-destruct somewhere else and get a green card to the best country in the world. Period.
January 16th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Redlands, ca and San bernardino still down, barely get calls or texts through… maybe one text an hour.. calls have so much static don’t even bother. I work for a university and our incoming calls have been down all day and our trunk provider is AT&T. According to AT&T, there were some major fiber lines cut/destroyed in the area. I hope this gets fixed soon. my cell phone (iPhone) is my only telephone.
January 16th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
I bet it connected to the same people who dug up fiber from Charter in the riverside area.
January 16th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Ugh. You know, I can see how Jeremy might be a bit put off, considering he’s doing us a favor by providing this information (good on you, J!). But You, Kyle, have done nothing to contribute here except grouse about how the standards are too high and fling racial slurs. Jaimex is right; our educational standards are in the toilet. Lowering the standards is Not the answer. If you don’t agree with me, just ask Carlos Mencia.

As for the outage: still no service in Beaumont, California.
January 16th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
ok yeah where can I find information on what happened because I really need to get my phone back in service. Is it just the 3g? or is it all of at&t? Im in Yucaipa and there is no service at all
Is there a tower down or something? Help!
January 16th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
I’m in Redlands, California. Everyone I know that has AT&T is without service and have been for who knows how long. That’s Redlands, Yucaipa and San Bernardino. Luckily, I have a land line but this is irritating. I’ve been searching for hours to figure out what happened and this is the first place I found any info. I guess if we were in Hollywood or Orange County it would be in the news. Thanks for this site!
January 16th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
In San Bernardino out most of the day. Loosing customer calls like crazy. What is irritating is that the techs. at Apple for the iPhone did not know about this until I called them for the 3rd time. They did call me back twice since I kept getting dropped. Left voice messages and the last 2 I spoke with were great. I started calling at 10:00 am by 7:00 pm I found out it was AT&T. They told me it could be a few days. OUCH I happy for this site as well. Thanks
January 17th, 2009 at 12:48 am
Mines back in Redlands! Woohoo! My life is back up. : pw
January 17th, 2009 at 1:33 am
Back up in Redlands! Yay…
January 17th, 2009 at 2:28 am
By the way, I should mention that I am in the middle of Los Angeles and still am not getting 3G or EDGE service. This is really chitty, mon. Really chitty.
January 17th, 2009 at 3:20 am
I’m from san bernardino, all day there was reception in two places: downtown SB and at my house, albeit ONLY with 3G reception. In order to keep reception stable even when I had it, I had to lock into 3G, and that’s really saying something since my nokia (yes, i know this is an iphone page) is a reception monster.
It’s 12:20 am here now, and as far as I know, things are working, though I’m not using my phone intensively anymore.
I’d also like to add that I’ve heard from a couple people who have called AT&T asking/expecting to be prorated, and the response was, I kid you not: “you will not receive compensation for your time without service because our contract with you does not require us to provide constant or uninterrupted service.”
That’s not just bull, that’s I’m french and I’m better than you, I eat snails and I plug my phone up my butt bull. If my phone had a cdma/ev-do version, I’d be on verizon because of that, and I’ve always hated verizon. If anyone has free time, I encourage everyone to call and ask to compensated for the loss of service and the inconvenience.
Hope it’s working well for everyone else by morning, I sympathize!
January 17th, 2009 at 10:26 am
I am in Cleveland, OH. Since Wednesday, Jan 14, my 3G data has been sporadic. Sometimes I can use the internet and sometimes I can’t. At first, I thought it was my iphone. If I switch over to Edge, internet is fine. Incidently, I can make and receive calls on both Edge and 3G and send and receive SMS. I guess I am lucky it’s just a 3G data issue here in Cleveland.
January 17th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Just north of San Fransico. About 5 days now. Dropped calls.
January 17th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I also experienced outages the other day im in Houma, LA
January 17th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
Redlands, CA and service is now back to normal.
January 17th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
crazy. I live in Los Angeles, CA no outages here i would imagine if there were there would be riots here.
January 18th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
4 hours down Sunday 18 January – Western Michigan
January 18th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
I live all the way out in Boston and service here has been down for two days now. What’s most frustrating is that there is a huge snowstorm here, which makes being without a cell phone on the road that much more dangerous.
January 19th, 2009 at 1:02 am
@kered
A couple of friends and I are having similar problems in the Cleveland area – sporadic 3G data.
January 19th, 2009 at 1:13 am
@Pete
How long have you had sporadic 3G data in the Cleveland area? I started noticing issues on Jan 14. I was doing errands around Beachwood/Woodmere/Orange Village area this afternoon. 3G data was better for me in Woodmere and Orange Village area than Beachwood.
January 19th, 2009 at 10:38 am
Service has been down in the middle of Boston for the past couple of days (both my wife and I have iphones, so the probability goes against it being a phone problem). What is most annoying is that repeated calls to AT&T Wireless have me doing the same resets, SIM card pullouts, etc., and refuse to acknowledge there are problems.
January 19th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Service has returned in my neck of the woods (Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain)! Let’s hope it lasts. Previous poster Anna is correct in pointing out the dangers of ‘no service’ for those who might not have a land line or need a cellphone in case of emergency on the road. If Comcast service went out in this manner (no acknowledgements, random outages, etc.) there would be a federal investigation. (Well, maybe not, but it might make the pages of the Boston Globe, at least…)
January 19th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
Yes, I keep getting the No Service at the top I thought it was just me. Phew.
January 19th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
G3 down in Sacramento and Pheonix.
January 19th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
g3 network is ******** me over past week. Edge network works fine, just slow. Cleveland, Ohio.
January 19th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
To Kered in Cleveland (post 38)…I am so glad you posted this. I live near University Circle/Little Italy and have had issues with 3G since Jan 14-ish at home, too. But when I get closer to Mayfield, it works like a charm. This is very odd.
January 19th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
To Dan in Cleveland (post 52). I am still down (3G data) here in Cleveland Heights (close to University Circle). I would bet that our iphones are hitting the same tower. At home, I don’t bother surfing over 3G data. I connect to wifi.
January 19th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Slow or no 3G in Brook Park, Ohio area. And issues with my email “Yahoo” not pushing over.
January 19th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
@Brett
That’s interesting info. I know where I am I am definitely not hitting a Brookpark cel tower.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:51 am
Ironically I live in brook park ohio. My iphone seems to work erratically. After a reset, safari works great, loads what ever i want. I turn it off,go back 30min later to look up something and i get a server not responding message. I dont know whether the system is that erratic in performance or if its something with the phone.I have 5 bars with 3G displayed.I just did a complete system wipe and restore and same results.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
No Service right now in New Orleans 1/20/09, 2:30PM. I have had this phone with AT&T for less than a month and this is the second time the service went down (NO SERVICE). What is the problem with AT&T?
January 21st, 2009 at 1:59 am
no service in philadelphia. has been out for about 2 hours now.
January 21st, 2009 at 11:22 am
No 3G this morning on the Cali coast. I wasn’t having any problems last night, but this morning all I can get is Edge service. It’s not as fast but it’ll work. :/
January 21st, 2009 at 11:36 am
No service in zip code 34145 – whats up?
January 21st, 2009 at 2:23 pm
No cell service in Arlington, VA.
January 21st, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Just got a text from AT&T, the 3g network is back up. All my issues are gone. And it’s super fast : )
January 21st, 2009 at 4:08 pm
In the Cleveland area
January 21st, 2009 at 7:14 pm
yep,i got the text message too.Only thing,it said 3g is now available in my area, like its a new thing, but didnt we already have it? My phone works great now though, thank god.
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:19 am
Yeah, I never got the txt, but service went back good on east side of Cleveland yesterday!
January 28th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
don’t have iphone, but my AT&T service has been good so far in SF/EastBay
January 30th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Has anyone seen really slow 3g in the boston area? I can’t even stream music for last 3 days…
January 30th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
in charleston Ill and it isnt working since the 28th. its the 30th now….
February 1st, 2009 at 6:17 am
So glad I don’t suffer the crappy suckage called AT&T. I’m more than happy with my Blackberry!
February 2nd, 2009 at 5:06 pm
I’m in So Cal and early in the morning, I have 3G, but then it just goes to **** at my desk. If my spidey senses are accurate, AT&T is probably trying to update it’s 3G network. Contemporaneously, I believe that rumored new iPhone may be partially necessary to utilize the faster speeds to its fullest. We still have about 400kb/s speed in the U.S., but Australia just upgraded their 3G network to work at about 7 MEGAbytes per second, with peaks at 21! (your home cable internet probably isn’t even that fast…)
So let’s presume that this god awful service is a harbinger for things to come. And to the foreigner who seems to feel overwhelming joy in correcting people’s spelling on a message board? Get over it. We’re not paying much attention to syntax and spelling on a bulletin board!
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Has anyone tried calling AT&T asking for credit? I’ve read elsewhere that people are getting reimbursed for dropped calls. Considering people are having straight-up outages, I think that warrants some cash!
Be sure to ask for cash credit because they’ll try to give you rollover minutes.
February 4th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Major outtages in West Los Angeles today and yesterday.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Same in Santa Barbara, CA – data is out. It works for a minute and then does not. Sucks.
February 6th, 2009 at 11:19 am
Austin TX is really screwed, and has been for almost a week. AT&T confirms this on the phone, but no ETA.
Even Edge is shitting the bed now…
February 11th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
had about 3 hr delay in getting email (google) on Feb 10 2009 during the evening hours. the time stamps were around 730pm and I didn’t see them when i check my blackberry around 930.
February 16th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Just noticed about an hour or so ago my blackberry bold went into “sos” mode in the corner where my network status is. Savannah GA
February 18th, 2009 at 9:49 am
Kentucky report: Data service is glitchy but okay, but yesterday and today (2/17-2/18) there are problems with phone service and people on the other end of the line getting lots of static. Happening among several folks with iPhones, same issue.
February 18th, 2009 at 10:43 am
It’s down in Baltimore md since about 6 pm last night!!
February 18th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
I am in Greenville, IL. I have absolutely no service at all. I have been here for about a year. Up until about a week ago, I have never had any problems.
February 20th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Having very spotty results in Boston (3G iPhone here). Using Speedtest app, I go 1.17Mbps dl/.13Mbps ul on 1/16/09, .80/.22 on 1/27/09, and now it’s .01Mbps/– for today, 1/20/09. That’s really crawling
Not a happy camper.
March 25th, 2009 at 12:46 am
OUTAGE IN DC. March 23-24. Service is still out in NE quadrant. Not sure of any others. ATT has made no attempt to contact users. When making calls, ATT phone operators give varying times when service will resume.
On March 23, the operator told me that things would be up and running the morning of March 24th. At 2:00pm, there still was no service.
Another call and the operator reported that service would be up and running by 3:15pm. It is now 2:00am on March 25 and there is still no service. This is an outrage.
March 29th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
There is an outage in San Diego area that is said to be fixed in 2 or 3 days. We’ll see how that goes! Hopefully it works since it’s close to my only means of contact to home and friends.
March 30th, 2009 at 1:26 am
I’m feeling the effects of that San Diego outage (I’m in Oceanside) and hope they get it fixed ASAP!! I’m job hunting and don’t want to miss any interview callbacks…
March 30th, 2009 at 9:52 am
I live in oceanside CA && my phone has been down since 6pm yesterday. I try to make a call && it tells me that the call has failed. The only thing I can do is get on the web. But my family can use there phone in vista CA.
March 30th, 2009 at 10:31 am
My service has been down since 4pm on March 29, told it would be 24 hours…Looking for alternate service provider. This is unacceptable.
March 30th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
I called AT&T today: The issue is resolved, according to them. When I left Oceanside 92056, no service. Once I reached San Diego 92110 (Sports Arena area), full bars. It’s a stay-tuned/connected …
March 31st, 2009 at 2:20 am
I agree – unacceptable. No ATT service, March 31 1226AM. ATT always bills for overtime use or data use. We already paid for our unlimited data and minutes. They should have to pay every user back for time and data lost. How many users are affected?
April 3rd, 2009 at 6:32 pm
April 3 2009
New Brunswick NJ,
service is spotty at best, calls don’t go through, text messages fail. I can only guess how many texts and calls to me have failed. This has been going on all week, i can’t even dial 611 to get in touch with ATT.
What gives!
April 27th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
I have NOOOOOO service.
April 27th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
Oh, I am in Yerington, Nevada.
June 18th, 2009 at 11:45 am
We have a major outage in the northeast ohio area now 6/18/2009…This sucks
June 21st, 2009 at 9:29 pm
No 3G data service since 6/20. Not good.
July 16th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
I’ve had outage all day off and on, MOSTLY OFF, in Charlottesville, VA.
July 17th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Colorado Springs, CO
I can’t receive phone calls, but I can still make them. Data seems unaffected.
August 20th, 2009 at 10:56 am
AT&T gave me a universal ticket number for the issue. You can hear the person but they cannot hear you on the other side. Funny thing out of 20 or so users here only one is AFFECTED.
September 24th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
Issue 3 out of the 4 days this week(9/21/09,9/22/09, 09/24/09) in Colorado Spring. 9/21 had a lot of issues sending text. 9/22 and 9/24 lost all ability to text make and receive phone calls and lost all texting. Talked to AT&T on 9/22 and they said i could be with out service for 10 to 12 day! Has anyone switch to different carriers with there iPhone?
October 9th, 2009 at 8:55 am
I have a Blackberry that I have to use for work. When I started working in Denver July 1 of 2009 I had perfect service. Even in my wholesaler building that is solid steel. In August of 2009 I started to drop calls in many different areas while I was driving. Then my phone completely stopped getting a signal at my wholesaler.
I moved downtown Denver mid September of 2009. I had full bars in my apartment when I moved in. When I got home from work on Wednesday Oct. 7 I had no signal in my apartment as still do not have a signal when I am home
December 10th, 2009 at 7:52 am
I live in Pittsburgh, PA. Ever since the start of October, I’ve had increasingly worse service. Forget data. I can’t make calls nor text messages. At this point (12/10), I usually have 5 bars but can still not call or text. Is this AT&T or my phone? Nonetheless, the situation is awful.
December 12th, 2009 at 8:53 am
There has been no service in Pacifica, CA since yesterday. No bars at all for all three cell phones at our house. AT&T support suggested I need a new sim card. Hah! They did admit that service from our tower was “impaired” but had no ETA for a fix.
December 13th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Yep, I’m in Pacifica too and I haven’t even been able to reach AT&T through email or chat either…just errors and timeouts. It’d be a helluva lot better if they just admitted there was a problem. It’s like a bad attempt at corporate gaslighting. We’re smarter than that.
December 14th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
No service in Pacifica, CA since Friday the 11th. I’m starting to believe those Verizon commercials!! when I called ATT treats me like I’m the one that caused it. I mean they didn’t treat me like a customer. I will keep asking for credits to my account.
December 14th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
ATT has been having a lot of problems in Pacifica, CA. One of their towers in this area has not been working properly since Oct and now they claim a stormed caused another Tower off Hwy 1 in Pacifica on 12/11/09 to stop working…with no ETA on repair time. Since they haven’t bothered to fix the other tower I doubt they’ll fix this one…it has all ready been four days. I think were too small of a population for ATT to worry about our area and they are in no hurry to correct the problems here along HWY 1. I’m so tired of not having reliable cell service with ATT I’m going to end my contract. Can anyone recommend a reliable cell phone company for the Pacifica, CA area?
December 15th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
We have 5 ATT phones in Pacifica,CA. Service has always been poor in some areas we are very sorry we left Verizon that had no problems. Now we have been without service for over 5 days and it is really affecting our business. I will go back to Verizon as soon as my contract expires in June, but I am wondering if we can cancel now without penalties since we have no service anyway. Found out that Verizon data plans are better. Any comments?
December 15th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Wireless service has been out since Friday, December 11 in Pacifica, CA. Just got off the phone with AT&T, apparently road conditions are too bad for them to be able to get to the 3 towers that are down so therefore they could not give me an estimate of when services will be restored. I mentioned that the weather has been relatively mild for the past two days and road conditions should be fine, the CSR then said oh, when they say road conditions they don’t mean regular road conditions, they mean the roads to the towers……..
December 15th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
AT&T is the worst service ever.
I will be getting a big reduction on my bill because of this awful service problem.
Everyone call and make sure you get this reduction.

I have a Verizon data card and it’s also not that great maybe the phone service is ok. They think Pacifica, CA doesn’t matter because it’s a small town. By the way how much money is everyone getting being credited?
Mm

My iPhone 3gs is working but my blackberry with only Edge network has not been working since about noon today…I’m in Anchorage, Alaska and I guess most people who don’t have 3g here are issues with messanging and calling. My blackberry says SOS and I tried reconnecting and it wouldn’t work.

In Aspen, Colorado iPhones do not work. Everyone here is having the same problem and borrowing their friends’ Blackberrys. Sad and frustrating about these phones. All looks and no function.

Titusville, FL west tower degraded (their word) Signal drops to nothing and goes to 5 bars but still cannot keep voice up and working. 3g dead. edge barely works. This started Friday Feb 5th, Tech support assured me they knew about the problem and it would be fixed Monday. Well Monday is done and my phone is not any better. WOrks fine 5 miles away at work though.

Northern Virginia, Fairfax to be exact. I have an iPhone 3G, and I’m not getting any signal at all except when it’s near my laptop. I’m really not happy with AT&T at this moment.
