How to: Jailbreak iPhone 3G 2.2.1 – Windows PC QuickPWN Edition
Disclaimer – Neither TiPb nor I take any responsibility for any problems/issues/bricking/etc. that may occur while using this software to modify your iPhone. Please be aware of what you are doing.
A few days back we brought you a simple guide to jailbreak your iPhone with firmware 2.2.1 on your Mac. Well today we are showing some love for our Windows faithful.
This guide will show you how to jailbreak the iPhone 3g only, not the first generation iPhone. Some important notes before we begin: You must have iTunes 8 installed and you must be on firmware 2.2.1, if you are not, be sure to update via iTunes. Also make sure to go into the task manager and disable ANYTHING Apple or iTunes related.
Let’s get started, after the jump!
1. Get the tools.
Once you are positive you are running the 2.2.1 on your iPhone 3G and have iTunes 8 installed it’s time to get the tools you will need. Create a folder on your desktop named “Pwnage”, then download the following files into that folder.
Once you have downloaded the above files you should unzip the QuickPwn zip file inside the Pwnage folder you just created.
2. Launch QuickPwn
This should be simple enough no? Launch QuickPwn from the folder you extracted it to on your desktop.
3. Connect your iPhone 3G
Connect your iPhone 3G via USB to your computer and click the blue arrow to continue.
4. Locate Firmware
Now we have to click the browse button to locate your iPhone 3G firmware.
5. Selecting the 2.2.1 firmware IPSW
Select the 2.2.1 firmware IPSW file from the Pwnage folder you created on your desktop then select the IPSW file and click the open button.
6. Firmware Verification
QuickPwn will now verify you have selected the correct firmware. After it is verified click the blue arrow to continue.
7. Customize your firmware
This step allows you select what you’d like installed on your iPhone. You have the ability to select Cydia, Installer, and replace boot logos. Once you have made your selections click the blue arrow to continue on. If you want a full jailbreaking experience, installing Cydia and Installer is highly recommended.
8. Verify connection
QuickPwn will noW verify that your iPhone 3G is still connected to your PC. Again click the blue arrow to continue your journey…
9. Potential Tricky Part – Pay Attention
Ok, this part seems to give some people issues, but I assure you it does work. QuickPwn will now put your iPhone 3G into recovery mode. When its in recovery mode you will be given directions to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.
10. Let the jailbreaking begin – no going back now!
QuickPwn will detect your phone is in DFU mode and proceed with the jailbreaking process.
11. You are officially jailbroken – Congrats!
Well that’s it folks, it’s time to start exploring this whole new world you have just opened. For answers to more of the questions you may have regarding jailbreaking please head on into our forums. There are always members of our community willing to help you out!

Yeah it’s very simple. I was caught off guard when the popped up on me.
The odd thing is it told me to hold down for 20 seconds but when it got to 7 it stopped counting and continued on.
September 29th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
if i jailbreak and then want to go back to how it was before jailbreak, how easy is it to reverse this?
September 29th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
All you do to reverse it is do a simple restore via iTunes and you are good to go. It’s that easy.
September 29th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Just done the jailbreak and really impressed how all my music and apps etc are still there!
September 29th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Works nice, just like I did it a few weeks ago. Very clear instructions.

September 29th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
What will happen when the next version Apple’s software is released? Will jail broken phones need to be rstored and then broken again with QuickPwn 2.2? If so, what will happen to all the jail broken customizations or apps installed? Thanks for the help.
September 29th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
I would like to know the answer to question 6 as well. thanks
September 29th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
To answer number 6… yes you will have to restore in iTunes. Which is not a big deal at all. At least not to me.
September 29th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
1 more question. Can I still sync my jailbroken iPhone 3G to iTunes to get all my songs and all that?
September 29th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
@Brooks, you sure can.
September 29th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I just bought my first iPhone. Switched from blackberry. I am just curious about the upside of jailbreaking? I am sorry if I am in wrong post for this question.
September 29th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Ok, I opened Quickpwn and it first told me that it didn’t support my firmware version but I restarted it and it seems ok now. When clicking the next arrow after it tells me to plug in my iphone, it started searching or something and found like 3 firmware files? The firmware in this guide that I downloaded is the one I guide it to right? If you could respond real quick it would be great!
September 29th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Is there any reason for the QuickPwn application not being able to load? Getting an error saying it failed to initialize properly(0xc0000135). Tried re-torrenting, getting from other mirrors, nothing seems to be working. Machine running XP. Thanks
September 29th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
@Brooks, you would be correct sir.
September 29th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
I can finish the QuickPwn process, but the Installer dosn’t work. Can not install any application. Any idea?
September 29th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
These directions specifically say the iPhone 3G, is there a different IPSW file for the 2G’s?
September 29th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
@Rick, yes there is. This was done on purpose due to some changes between 2g and 3g methods that may have confused some people. This is for 3g’s only.
September 29th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
If you jailbreak, you lose all information (programs, contacts, datebook, etc) on the phone and have to reinstall, correct?
September 30th, 2008 at 12:51 am
Chris Vitek,
No, that’s not the case. I just did it, and all my music, calendar, contacts, etc are still there.
September 30th, 2008 at 6:54 am
took the plunge an jailbroke my 3g uk iPhone yesterday ! Everything seemed fine till I tried some of my app store applications. Got the usual programs starting then closing scenario it even did this to the main phone application! Found some of the jailbroke apps good but none that really made me think it’s worth the hassle .anyway suppose I’ll try it again soon when I’ve got a few spare hours LOL . Was glad it was easy enough to restore my phone to it’s settings before I jailbroke now all I’d good again. Any ideas on what could have been the problem would be apprciated cheers chaps!
September 30th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Hi, the process went through like a dream, but still shows as locked and although it will now recognise another SIM i.e. vodaphone I cant unlock the phone. Asks me to connect to iTunes and of course iTunes tells me its an unsupported SIM. – pop in my O2 SIM and all’s right with the world. Any suggestions as to what I do next, would be appreciated.
September 30th, 2008 at 9:57 am
@Lorraine, this procedure is for jailbreaking only. You can not unlock any phones with this. You would need to download bootnueter from Installer and run that. That will unlock your phone to use with different sims/carriers.
September 30th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Please Help !! I did the above and all worked as planned.. I got all the responses as mentioned above and now my Iphone has the pineapple logo on the screen and that is all it does. Nothing else appears and when I pull up Itunes it locks up itunes as well. Any help ? Thanks in advance
October 1st, 2008 at 1:56 am
Sounds like fun lolz but wat does jailbreaking do to the phone?
October 1st, 2008 at 4:53 am
@wonder Webb, after jailbreaking, go to Cydia, find/install the app Bossprefs, then tap the button that says “fix user did permissions”. That should fix your open/close issues.
@Allan, you may have to redo the process. Or restore back to original firmware first then try again.
To answer a few questions ive noticed: -Jailbreaking allows you to install 3rd party apps los of which are free. -These apps include Cycorder(video camera), SwirlyMMS(MMS Picture messaging), Winterboard(full visual customization), Quickgold(quick application/contacts launching), PdaNet(Internet tethering), TouchCast(streaming video podcasts), Snapture(zoomable and more camera), Categories(I have 50 apps all on one page categorized), SSH, the list goes on and on. The added features you get are well worth it. -For those fresh jailbrekers, don’t use the Installer app, use the Cydia app to install apps. It’s much more stable. -New firmware means new QuickPwn will be needed. Customizations of 3rd party apps can be backed up via SSH if new firmware come out -You do not lose any contacts, music, calendars, etc. It gets restored back after.

How long it takes to jailbreak completely, bcoz it is almost more than 1 hr. still it has not restarted my iphone 2G Please help
Thanks
October 1st, 2008 at 9:36 am
@AAN, like it states up front, this process is for the iPhone 3g ONLY. I suggest you restore your phone in iTunes. Good luck.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:40 pm
thanks Jeremy Sikora, But now my iphone is such a state that it is not been recognized in itunes, what next …. I tried the same process several times but its the same … If possible could you please guide me how to restore…
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:50 am
you may want to try to do a dfu restore. This is done by a combination of holding down the home and power buttons for a certain amount of time. Google dfu mode and dfu restore for iphone to try.
October 2nd, 2008 at 11:08 pm

Am I looking at a full restore and re-do quickpwn again? Appreciate any help guys. pho

To those getting the the “failed to initialize” error, I THINK you need .net2 installed….quickpwn ran on my Win XP virtual machine but not my wifes XP PC…upgrading her to .net2 now to see if it works. Will update on results. (They warn not to use a virtualized machine)
October 12th, 2008 at 3:37 am
Update…Yes I was right….intall .net2 framework in Windows Update
Hope that helps!

I follow each step and competed the process but everytime i put my Tmobile sim in, it’s saying different sim detected but i can see it’s picking up the tmobile signal. It will not let me unlock. it goes to emergency mode. can you help
October 19th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
What is meant by “Also make sure to go into the task manager and disable ANYTHING Apple or iTunes related.”?
October 19th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
jailbreaking is not an unlock, there is no unlock for the 3g as of yet. thats why your tmobile wont work. (jay)
October 20th, 2008 at 11:31 am

It booted up ok. when i go into itunes it asks me if i want to restore from my backup or create a new device. I want to jailbreak my iphone 3g but have a few questions after reading some reviews. im new to this so bare with me guys.
ive read reviews about how everything on my phone will be lost if jailbroken (contacts, mail, music, apps from apps store, etc). does this happen to many ppl?
is it ok to sync with itunes after?
when jailbroken, and new update has been released by apple, i dnt knw but does it automatically update your phone when connected? and is everything then lost? im sure AptBackup (i think) would be usefull here

October 23rd, 2008 at 6:02 pm
I jailbroke my phone and everything works fine but when i put a working tmobile sim card in the iphone it wont work any ideas why it wont work? do i have to install smoething?
October 23rd, 2008 at 6:12 pm
@Jeremy Sikora , this procedure is for jailbreaking only. You can not unlock any phones with this. You would need to download bootnueter from Installer and run that. That will unlock your phone to use with different sims/carriers.
This was your reply to someone here so my question to you Jeremy is…..can you find me a link with step by steps on how to unlock my iphone where i will be anle to use t-mobile with it? i have a old iphone i think it the 1st generation ans would love to have t mobile on it?

I did everthing up untill you have to get it to DFU mode, I did the steps exactly as it says, even tried it a few times, but at the end it get a error message saying “Your device has connected in the wrong mode” ??? I don’t understand. Any help would be appreciated
October 29th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
The smoothest install yet! Great easy to follow instructions. Thank you!!
Note: ‘Installer’ app is not stable and will cause your phone keypad to not respond…at least this is what I found when I installed it on my 3G iPhone!
October 29th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
CORRECTION: Deleting ‘Kate’ from Installer app will enable the phone keypad! Woo hoo!
October 30th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Just followed your instruction on my 3 week old 3G iPhone, what a breeze! Thanks for the instructions…now I can really enjoy my phone!
November 1st, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Again, same question appear, does it really work for iPhone 3G officially factory unlocked? Please confirm anyone…
November 1st, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Brilliant!!! Worked smoothly in the first try.
thanks a lot
November 2nd, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Brand New 3G with 2.1. I’ve tried this process many times over a few days. Everything goes well until putting it in DFU. I get to the screen telling me how to do the keys but nothing seems to work. It just sits there waiting.
I’ve tried it with iTunes running and shut down. Every time I end up cancelling the thing and then lose everything. Have to restore.
Any ideas? It must be something simple if I’m the only one having this problem.
Thanks
November 2nd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Have been trying this out for a couple of days on Windows Vista (32-bit). Things seem to go well until step 10. It just sits there on the screen with “Uploading exploit bootloader…” and the iPhone screen is dark since the iPhone 3G seems to be totally powered off. I think the problem is in step 9 but followed that to the letter. Any suggetions? Thanks!
November 3rd, 2008 at 5:49 am
Took the plunge and just jailbroke my iPhone 3g with 2.1 firmware. I’m running Windows XP and iTunes 8. This tutorial worked like a charm. The only thing I had to do differently was I HAD to have iTunes running, as opposed to the disclaimer above that said “disable ANYTHING Apple or iTunes related.” I also chose not to install the pineapple boot screen, but did install Cydia and Installer. Thanks a million!
November 3rd, 2008 at 8:17 am
Is there a comprehensive list of apps available for jailbroken iPhones?
November 3rd, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Do I need WinZip installed on my computer to open QuickPWN? Is there a free download for WinZip?
November 3rd, 2008 at 7:33 pm
@Gg If you have Win XP then Zip is built in to the file system. A good zip alternative is 7zip, it’s free!! Check it out!!
November 4th, 2008 at 3:41 am
REY: I saw your post on the apps you can install. i just finished jb my 3g. Where can I find the apps you mentioned on your post?

November 7th, 2008 at 7:16 am
I had my 3G iPhone jailbroken and installed some apps, including BossPrefs and QuickGold. Since I had these two, I hid both Cydia and BossPrefs, so that whenever I wanted to run any of them I would call QuickGold to start them up.
I had to restore my iPhone, and had it jailbroken again. It was completely restored from backup before that jailbreak procedure, and now Cydia doesn’t appear on Springboard.
Any one knows how to fix that?
Thanks
November 7th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Followed all the instructions, had no problems on 2.1 Just remember to kill Apple/Itunes **** first. Only thing that took me by suprise was Pwnage doesn;t wait for you… you need to be ready to press the buttons etc in step 9… maybe people are mis-timing that.

The jailbreaking process went just as described. I did encounter some issues after the jailbreak, which may or may not be common. Launching all applications became slower by 3-4 seconds, which was no big deal. My iPhone would go into the re-arrange mode by itself 2-3x a day, which was also not a big deal. However, yesterday (about 20 or so days after the jailbreak), pushing the home button while the phone was “asleep” or on “standby” (screen is off) would not activiate the “slide to unlock” screen. The screen remained turned off. Trying to turn off the iPhone with the power button didn’t work either. It was as if the iPhone had locked up. However, when I plugged the power cord into the iPhone, as I first thought that the battery had run out, the iPhone came alive showing that my battery was still 1/2 full, and the “slide to unlock” screen also came up. With the power cord still plugged into the iPhone, the “home button” was working again to bring me back to the “home screen.” However, when the phone went back to the “sleep” mode, the “home button” stopped working again. I pulled the power cord, and when I reinserted it, I was able to wake up the phone. I repeated the process in letting the phone to go to “sleep” mode, and once again, the “home button” would not work and the phone seemed lock. So I finally restored my iPhone through iTunes, and now everything works again. Hopefully, if the iPhone getting locked up on the “sleep” mode is a common problem, the Jailbreak team will get it resolved. The other two problems I had were tolerable. But the iPhone locking up (assuming that it was because of the Jailbreak) makes Jailbreaking not worth the trouble.

This phone went from a 10 of 10 to a 15 0f 10. Would like to see a fully interrogated picture text App. You no all in one. I get a text and the picture is there… Love the 3G (”G” for Golden)

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for your well done tutorial — I was using another sites “how to” and was stuck on the second step and didn’t know how it to “browse” for the firmware. Thank goodness I found this one and realized they omited the IPSW 2.1 firmware downloading, I was under the impression that because my phone was updated to 2.1 firmware already it should’ve shown up automatically in the second “browse” screen. This worked without a glitch, took less than 5 minutes. Thanks again!
November 12th, 2008 at 9:01 am

2 Questions: 1. i haven’t tried jail break before and this will be my first time on my phone, so is this QuickPwn for me? 2. What if there is some problem during the process, will the phone never recover again? Guys do reply, m bit worried
November 18th, 2008 at 7:00 am
I jailbroke my iphone 2.1 firmware using QuickPwn. Everything worked great until the stage where the apple logo comes on. It didn’t seem to progress beyond that. It took about 6 hours (I went to bed) before the phone was usable. During that time, it often rebooted itself and sometimes vibrated. So if you find yourself with the same situation, don’t panic too much. Leave it and forget about it. It might be that the number of applications you have installed on your phone lengthen the jailbreak process. The other thing – this was my first time to jailbreak my iphone. Hope this helps some people.

Just want to say Thanks for this tutorial. I managed to get mine done and working. I kept getting stuck on the apple logo after all appeared to go well. (firmware 2.1, itunes
Anyway, I restored to my back up and that was the problem. Once I restored as new it worked and I am reloading it now. I did this just to get the catagories so I hope it works.

All worked but the phone keeps resetting when I try and sync regular apps. I tired quite a few times and the last the logo was back. Now I have to restore again, so I give up. As much as I would like the extras, I do not want something so buggy/ Maybe I’ll try again next week.

Maybe try restarting the phone, meaning poer it don and turn it back on. If all else fails just do a restore. If it does not recognize put phone back into DFU mode hold home and power until restart then just hold home it should go into restore mode.

To add to the last reply, I have windows xp with service pack 2. Should I upgrade to service pack 3. The reason I have not already done so is because I heard that service pack 3 does not agree with shared files from the internet. Thanks again.

November 25th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
If after the jailbreak you can’t make dial calls because the phone dialer freezes and goes back to the main menu, try this:
1- Uninstall Kate from Installer: this is what everyone recommends, seems to work for a lot of people but didn’t work for me.
2- Then go to Installer again and uninstall these apps:
A) Mobile enhancer B) RIP DEV preferences
3- Reboot your iPhone.
That’s what I did and got my dial pad back again.
Hope this helps someone, I spent like three hours searching for a solution…

I have a jailbreaked iPod Touch 32Gb 1st gen fw 2.1, i just updated it to 2.2 from iTunes and tried to pwn it with Quickpwn 2.2, but at the step 9 i got that error.
It’s strange cuz i’ve done this many times with with fw 2.0 and 2.1 with no errors, but now i can’t do it with 2.2
I read all posts and found that allen chen, Christopher V, Dustin Kavanagh, Mike, Noli and me have the same problem.
Any advice email me: mark_mm2000@yahoo.com

Answer to posts 6 & 7, I did this about a week ago, worked a treat I upgraded to itunes 8 2.2 did the jailbreak, worked just fine, as it should, but then I went and did something very stupid, and tried to load ziphone onto it, it braught up a silly looking cartoon man with some Russian word in a bubble, and would not progress from there, did a restore still could not get ziphone 3.0 to work, so I will be using the method asked about in posts 6 & 7, I wanted to try ziphone so I could install an app I got to my iphone, I run Windows xp and have no clue how to get the app folder from my desk top to my iphone, it was a free app, pretty nifty little thing, but cant get it onto my iphone from the pc, any tips would be greatly appreciated

Hey I have the 2.2 Firmware. How can I get this off my phone and install the 2.1 Firmware. And to everyone else. My buddy has the 2.1 Firmware. It downloaded NO PROBLEM. and EVERYTHING is absolutely awesome. He was downloading apps for hours. Nothing has gone wrong. Thanks to this site.
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:13 pm
I did it !!! After a week of trying evertything!!
I have a jailbraked iPod touch 1st gen, 2.2 firmware working 100% I used QuickPwn 2.2
How to solve the ERROR (post 183): “Your device has connected in the wrong mode. This can be caused by incorrect following of the instruction. Or a faulty USB connection. Please try again”
SOLUTION: It is pretty easy, i wasn’t pressing the HOME button enough. What worked for me is to press the HOME button with the NAIL, and VOILA it worked !!!
To all those newbies i advice you to press the HOME button with your nail in step 9. Pretty easy solution but nobody told me how to solve it!

thanks mate – well played
December 30th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
@KOAS: thanks for the solution on the phone app error. The problem occured after a week or two and i (stupid enough) backuped de phone after the jailbreak (without a back up of the legit back up). I was dreading the thought of a clean install, what would have meant that 50% of my data would be lost…
So you see, you’re my hero dude…
Enjoy new years eve and have a great 2009….

Hey guys – After seeing this monster list and how the mods and experts seem to stop answering questions at around 30 something — I think someone should go through these all and compile a nice little FAQ page.
Please?
Especially for the open/close issues, Not using Installer b/c Cydia is more stable, And some answers for ppl who experience Hangs Perhaps those concerned with Notepad Data Loss and whatnot.
Good Luck with this insane thread.

Hi guys, I need help with my iPhone 3G, which I got from an uncle who bought it online from China. I put an ATT sim from my regular phone into the iphone and it makes and receive call fine, but it will not connect with itune. My computer recognized it only as a removable drive, also there is no WiFi connection, when I checked network there is no option for WiFi. Another thing there are no itune or Safari icon on the phone screen. What should I do.

I was up reading forums about jailbreaking iphones, the pros and cons. I found more pros so i decided to proceed. Once i did the steps, found it was real easy, i came to realize my ATT service was no more. so i changed it back to how it was, was there something i did wrong? Although i did mess with the cool apps from cydia, real nice. Please help.

February 19th, 2009 at 12:47 am
what do you do if quick pwn wont work
February 19th, 2009 at 10:36 am
This instruction is a FAKE. On this time and on time when someone published this tutorial it wasn’t firmware 2.2.1 for 3G. Second, this screenshots is from QuickPwn that support ONLY firmware ver 2.2, 2.0 and 2.1 – You can see this on screenshot. On this moment there is NO option to Unlock iphone 3G using this new QuickPwn 2.2.5 for Windows. You can see this in text file downloaded with software:
FEATURES
February 19th, 2009 at 11:05 am
Ignore the above post everyone, all of the guides supply the most recent files you use and the process is as described in the guide. So yes, all of TiPb guides, if followed correctly, work perfectly.
February 19th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
Dev-Team still working on new Yellown0w software for new modem firmware – So it’s mind that there is NO yellowsn0w software for modem firmware that comes with firmware 2.2.1 – THIS IS TRUE Please look closely on screenshots,, There is information that QuickPwn is supporting only firmware 2.1 2.0.3 and 2.0.5 – I’m not blank, I know what i can see.
And finally: Dev-Team explain why DO NOT to update to iPhone 2.2.1 http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009/01/29/musclenerd-dev-team-overviews-221-iphone-firmware/

“i have a problem with my iPhone its a 2nd gen iphone 3g and i used these steps and it says it was successful but my iphone wont reboot and it keeps on turning off and a white screen flashes for a sec and it tries to reboot again plz help”
I tried to Jailbreak my updated 2.2.1 3g last night and got the same problem. Bootscreen with flashes and vibrates twice and then repeat. Here’s how to fix it…
Turn off the phone and leave it off overnight like 8hrs. This should turn off any stuff running while it is off. Then open the latest version of itunes on your computer. Plug in the USB. Right away push the home key and the power button and hold it until you see the itunes cable logo. It might take a while. Be patient and wait for it. The phone should then start in some kind of safe mode and itunes will ask if you want to reset the phone. Hopefully you would have backed up the phone before attempting the jailbreak. After you have restored the factory settings you would restore the back up copy of your phone. Reason for boot log problem might be because you have too many applications loaded on the phone. That’s what happened to me. After I restored the phone to factory settings with 2.2.1 firmware it was barebones. I tried the jailbreak again and it worked. Then I re-synced all of my apps.
Hope this helps.
February 22nd, 2009 at 11:58 pm
3g 2.2.1 being used with a SIM unlock. Was working fine. Now stuck on emergency dialer. How do I get it back to workig with the sim adapter? Will jailbreaking it do it? Again I don’t want to unlock. I just want off this damn emergency dialer screen so I can use my sim adapter again.
February 23rd, 2009 at 2:29 am
I did the JB and things went fine all the way to the final step. Now the phone stays stuck on the pineapple for hours. I tried to go back to Itunes and it says that it cannot read the phone until I unlock it with my passcode. However I cannot see my screen to unlock it with my passcode. ALL I see is the stupid pineapple. SOME ONE HELP.. My phone is stuck cannot not unlock it with my passcode!!! to even restore it back!

Hi guys. Does jailbreaking also means unlocking the iphone 3G. Cause I dont see an option for unlock like it used to be with the 2G. I just wanna be sure before I start the process. Thank you
February 24th, 2009 at 9:54 am
No it’s not. To unblock your 3G phone you need to use yellowsn0w trick, but ONLY if you have firmware 2.2.0. If you have firmware 2.2.1 already installed then, there is nothing you can do now.
February 24th, 2009 at 7:58 pm

Hey Guys,
I jailbroke my 3g iphone today and after it was done it froze on the apple (when booting). After 30 mins it finally went to my opening screen, everything was ok and the jailbreak was successful. I would concur that it was due to my 20 apps I had downloaded…maybe it locks for 1 minute or so per application? Scared the **** out of me though….
March 1st, 2009 at 8:27 pm
can anyone explain how to apply themes to my iPhone and where i can get the software to do it

I’ve already gone through the whole process and reached the “Successful Jailbreak” screen, but it’s been about 45 mins and my iTouch still hasn’t shown anything but the pineapple…Should i pull the plug on the USB or should i just wait for awhile longer?

Well i decided to just pull out the USB cord and now iTunes doesn’t recognize it and it won’t load up either, my computer still “dings” whenever i plug in the USB and i can still turn on and off the actual iTouch, but it still won’t do anythign more than the f***ing pineapple (even though the design is BAMF)

March 5th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
If you’re getting stuck at the load screen (apple/pineapple) then you need to restore in iTunes. Hold Power and Home and iTunes should recognize it. Do a restore with the file you downloaded above. When that’s done, re-try the QwickPWN and you should be good to go. I’m all set. I’m now re-syncing the apps from my iTunes library.
I’m on Windows Vista.
Question- where do I download the new application? Like categories.
Thanks!

i’ve been trying to jailbreak my iphone for 3 days. I found this cite and it took about 15 minutes…MAX. TOO EASy… good looking family….
March 6th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Ran this on my iPhone and had a glitch others had mentioned, it froze at the apple boot screen.
If I had to guess I would say it was something to do with the configuration or apps installed prior to jailbreaking because of what I found…
There is a simple fix. I probably could have found this on the forum but since I had played with my 4th gen ipod I pretty well knew what to do, and this worked.

When my iPhone 3G (firmware 2.2.1) got stuck at the logo screen (with the apple/pineapple), i just ran QwkPwn again and Jailbroke it (while still in the boot logo screen), and it worked!
Good Luckk!
March 20th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
AND, if that doesn’t work: 1)Close iTunes 2)RESTART computer (while iPhone/iPod is connected) 3)Wait until iPhone unlock screen comes up
If that doesn’t work, then I don’t know what to tell you… Restore?
Good luck!

Hey there, haven’t purchased the iPhone yet. Was going going to get a blackberry after finding out jailbreaking. During my research I found many instances of people saying: a. Visual Voicemail is GONE BABY GONE b. end call button GONE BABY GONE c. restart your iphone to END A CALL d. FAVORITES ARE GONE BABY GONE
Is this true? Visual voicemail I don’t really mind, but the End call button… Can anyone confirm the End Call button is still there after jailbreaking? Thanks…

This was super easy, and super fast! I have Vista 64-bit, and it worked FLAWLESSLY! As a precaution, and this is likely not necessary, but it can’t hurt, I launched QuickPwn with Administrator privileges.
March 24th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
I downloaded both the tools into pwnage folder on desktop like recommended, but when i try to open quickpwn an error screen pops up and wont let quickpwn run. is this a common problem and how can i get past it?
March 24th, 2009 at 4:05 pm

I’m on .NET 3.5 SP1. U can download it from microsoft.com.
Shut down anything Apple-related, and don’t forget Bonjour.
March 24th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
This totally worked for me! Don’t be scared to try this method to jailbreak your iphone. The hardest part was the timing in step 9 – the tricky part. Took me 3 tries but it does work! I am loving this iphone even more now!
March 24th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Yes. Exactly. It worked the first time for me, but I’ve jailbroken two previous OS builds. The “tricky part” with pressing the Home, then combo Home/Power buttons, then Home only again is not always exactly as many seconds as it says. If you know what to listen for, the device will “tell you” when you can “let go”
March 24th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
I have iphone 1st generation which is 8GB, I bought it from iphone store in New York, later I unlocked it for all networks, please let me know if it has 3G option, I am not sure, now I am willing to use for down loading data and e-mails, I am not sure if it could work or not. March 25th, 2009 at 12:32 am
Hi everyone I just bought the iPhone maybe three weeks ago and have wanted to jailbreak it ever since. But I was reluctant to do so because of so many complaints I saw on different blogs about people’s phones failing. Well I followed the steps above and was able to succeed, I did make sure though that all my data was backed up on iTunes in case anything did happen. So far it has been one day and the phone is working perfectly. If anything does happen I will post up again. I just want people to realize that if they follow the instructions on here and on quickpwn they will be able to succeed in jailbreaking their phone. Good Luck.
March 25th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Oh and in case anyone is interested, I was working on Windows XP SP3 while doing the jailbreak.

March 25th, 2009 at 2:53 am
ifti: No, what you have is the original iPhone, which is EDGE-only, or 2G. It does not have a 3G option.
I have a new one for sale, by the way, if you’re interested.

I jailbreaked my 3g firmware 2.2.1 phone with no probs at all, began to enjoy all the benefits… then found my “phone” function was greyed out and inoperable. It seems my iPhone had become an iTouch !! I have re-installed original firmware and it is working fine in its factory condition now. Anyone know what went wrong?? Could it be that I am in the UK where the iPhone is designed to work on the UK based “O2″ network? Thanks in advance.

okay no such reply, i restored my iphone and lost all contacts photos songs apps ect, so i figured mine as well jailbreak to see if i can use diskaid to bring back my contacts so i’m jailbroken with no numbers all for some **** streaming videos i could get before I jailbroke, I was thinking i could watch flash and other video files which i should be able to and can but can’t with the video out and thats the only point, i jailbroke to make my $50 tv out cable worthwhile only to find out I can’t use the tv and now i’ve lost all of my information, what a waste, i wish i just kept things how they where,
March 27th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
I just followed the steps and i too have the freezing logo problem, and i cant restore on itunes…. please please help, westonkarlcooper@yahoo.com
March 27th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
I did mine yesterday with this method. After being on the apple logo for 2 hours and it keep going on and off and vibrating I was like **** this and closed the quickpwn screen and turned off the phone. Turned it back on and opened iTunes to just restore to my last sync. The phone turned on fine and I saw Cydia and Installer were there and it was jailbroken. Messed around with Winterboard and other apps and just decided it wasn’t worth it to void the warranty and **** if something happened. I restored it fine and am happy with the regular old iPhone.
March 28th, 2009 at 12:00 am
i got my iphone bj few day ago it find and very thing work good but can get the installer and i try redo over few time but still not. can anybody help thank you dz3c0n@yahoo.com
March 28th, 2009 at 12:23 am
I went through the process and it said it was successful, but it hung on the pineapple logo and wouldn’t boot. Every so often it buzzed twice but that was all. I tried using iTunes to restore but it wouldn’t recognize the iPhone. I had resigned myself to the thought that I had bricked it when iTunes suddenly recognized the iPhone and started trying to sync it. I quickly hit Restore and it tried to do a backup, gave me some errors, and then lo and behold it said the sync was complete, and my iPhone was alive and had Cydia and Installer on it. I don’t know what went wrong or how it resolved itself, but it scared the **** out of me and I wouldn’t do it again. This process is not as bulletproof as the docs make it sound.
March 28th, 2009 at 2:32 am

Will not take 2.2.1 from 2.2????
Currently running 2.2(5G77), Modem Firmware (02.28.00). I’ve jailbroken many of iphones, so this ain’t my first rodeo. Downloaded both the windows quickpwn and ipsw 2.2.1. Launched quickpwn and ran thru the entire process 2 full times. I’m still on 2.2 with the same modem firmware. Hello? what the heck is going on here?
March 31st, 2009 at 4:58 pm
By the way, the only way to NOT update your baseband is to use the PwnageTool 2.2.1 for Mac OS X. I would not trust ANYTHING else. The PwnageTool will not update your baseband allowing you to use YellowSn0w. You can take the factory ipws that iTunes downloads for you and just point the PwnageTool at that file.
go here: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2008/11/jailbreakunlock.html

April 8th, 2009 at 11:57 am
I just jailbroke my brand new 3g US iPhone yesterday ! Everything seemed fine,. except I tried some of my app store applications. Got the usual programs starting then closing scenario it did this to the main phone application! some jailbroke apps good but none that really made me think it’s worth the main phone app not working (why is that?) .anyway thanks again like everything and the how to step by step, will try again soon when I’ve a weekend free. Any ideas on what might have been the problem with the main phone app would be appreciated… great work, perfect tool… lets get it sorted so we can open this baby up for everything (like true file sharing)

April 14th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
yo i just finally got this to work . I have an AT&T version 2.2.1 iphone and wanted to use tmobile simcard. It didnt work at first, but finally worked. Follow instructions as well as post #137, that post fixed it for me. I think the problem I had was restoring the updated itunes software with the old AT&T simcard in. DONT DO THAT THE SIM MUST BE OUT. google how to put the phone in recovery mode if you cant get itunes to read your phone without the simcard. (I just had it hooked up to itunes and was on the restore page and then took the sim out and only the phone screen changed to emergency mode but itunes restore wokred). Immediately after the restore was complete and the phone was booting up I unplugged it and then let it boot, which went to the emergency call screen. From there put the simcard in which you are trying to use in. Then open the QUICKPWN program and then go through it. Bam thats what solved my problem hope it helps.
April 14th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
CORRECTION **** apparently the post # 137 that i was talking about is now gone or has changed, but anyways follow what I said above if you have problems. FYI i was stuck in emergency mode on my first attempt but it read my simcard as tmobile and i could send and receive calls, but then I restored as said above without the simcard and immediately closed itunes and unplugged the phone while it was about to boot up. Then I clicked all apps. on the quickpwn and held the buttons down for how long it said ( I actually counted the last step and let go of the home button after it stopped counting down with you because it stopped on 22 seconds and then went to the next step so I just kept holding the home button in and counted down still then let go) yeayea hope it helps
April 15th, 2009 at 12:59 am
when i plug in my device once im to that beginning part of the tutorial. a dialog box pops up and says ‘this version of quickpwn can only jailbreak devices with version 2.0″ what gives? is this because of the new agreement laws for third party apps? if so this blows!
April 15th, 2009 at 7:56 am

Hey there. I just followed this tutorial and used QuickPwn to jailbreak my iPod Touch 1st Generation (2.2.1 firmware). The first time I tried to put it into DFU mode, I didn’t hold the home button for long enough, so it told me I had my iPod in the wrong mode. I did it again, and it worked. It installed everything, went through the pineapple in a jogging suit thing, and then said it was rebooting. And it still is rebooting, 15 minutes later. It’s currently in my Belkin iPod Dock, which does have a steady connection to my computer. It does the normal reboot, registers with my computer, then a little white flash, then back to the boot screen. And then the same thing happens again. Ideas, help? Thanks.
April 15th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Not worth your time. I tried this on my windows xp this morning. Frozen on the apple since. FINALLY after hours upon hours of trial and failure, I got my iphone 3g into recovery mode. Then, it bricked and shut down COMPLETELY again. After another hour of messing around, I got it all to work, now in the process of restoring from back-up. Not worth the trouble, I reccomend staying with what you have. Not worth it. In addition to that, im not a tech-moron, I am an expert graphic designer, programmer, and coding expert. I’ve never dealt with such a pain in the *** experience like this.
April 15th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
INSTRUCTIONS for anyone with the Frozen at Pineapple/Apple logo. (MAC)
Get your phone on (pineapple/apple logo)
Turn it off by holding power/home for 10 seconds, LET GO IMMEDIATELY after it turns off.
Leave the phone alone for 6-8 HOURS
Open up iTunes(6-8 hours later)
Connect iPhone via USB
Hold power/home until it turns on
IMMEDIATELY let go of power and HOLD home for as long as it takes for you to reach the “Steve Jobs” screen (I dont know if this will be the same if you have the apple logo, it may be the connect to itunes, Im not sure, but for pineapple this is what will show.)
Here is where you NEED patience.
Wait for iTunes to recognize your phone, let EVERYTHING load, dont rush or anything.
After it is all loaded, locate your 2.2.1 firmware download (you should have it if you previously tried jailbreaking…duh)
Hold Option (alt) and press restore.
Select the 2.2.1 firmware
Restore as you would on any other occasion.
Hope this helped, any other questions?

sorry to ask but cant find any IPSW file once i unzip the 2.2.1 firmware IPSW, only .dmg files? please someone help
April 16th, 2009 at 3:09 am
I had my phone stuck on the pineapple for ages but i sorted by doing the following:
I connected my phone via usb and loaded itunes. It wouldnt connect at first and kept giving me error messages. I needed to reboot it but it wouldnt let me. To overcome this, i put the phone in DFU mode. To do this you need to hold the home and on/off key down untill it turns off, then continue to hold the home button. I did this and the phone flashed white, then itunes offerd the re-boot to factory settings. Seems as it was fixed but had nothing on it worth losing, i attempted jailbrerak again, opting without the pineapple logos, and it worked just fine. no problems yet

Thanks to entry 454 I was able to restore my iphone to factory settings. Did the jailbreak again and it worked. I reccomend you back up your iphone, restore it factory settings and then jailbreak, that way the initial reboot won’t take hours (I left mine more than 7 hours and didn’t work never got it back).

can anyone teach me how to restore my 3G iphone firware 2.2.1 to it’s original state before i jailbreak?
May 6th, 2009 at 10:26 am
The iPhone 3g 2.2.1 IPSW file is a winrar zip file, so the quickpwn program will not load it. When i unrar the file it becomes alot of folders and files and not a ipsw file. What to do? I have tried downloading a similar ipsw (custom made) file from another place, but then quickpwn sais it doe snot match any firmware version quickpwn supports, even though the file is supposed to nbe for 2.2.1. Isa you might deduce from the above, I am a total newbie at this, Please help :-S
May 6th, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Hey guys, im trying to jailbreak my iphone. I have got the iphone 3G which was bought a month ago brand new from carphone warehouse so it already has the 2.2.1 (5H11) firmware on it already with the 02.30.03 baseband!
I have downloaded the required files and following the instructions as provided.
Although when I get to step where I select the IPSW in QuickPWN, it can’t find it! the file is there… even when I do a restore in itunes by holding select and clicking restore it still wont find it.
It downloaded as a ZIP file and it doesnt have the .zip ext on the end of the file! I’m really struggling
any ideas?
Thank you

What a great walkthrough. Thank you.
Hey, if you re-write, you may want to warn the reader before they initiate the key sequence, that that they will be expected to start holding buttons without an intervening prompt. It caught me off guard and I had to do a hard reset and start over.
Best, Andy

If you are on the iphone 3g 2.2.1, and you can’t get past the apple logo upon completion, restore your iphone by opening itunes, then hold down the Home button for 5 seconds, then hold the power button until it turns off. Let go of just the power button, then press the power button again (while still holding the Home button) and iTunes will eventually recognize that it’s in “Restore Mode” and you can restore from backup. (If you have one). This will take a while.
Now to attempt QuickPWN again correctly, realize that they left out the first step in the program. Open iTunes, click on your phone on the left, hold the shift button down, and click the Restore button. This will open a file browser where you can select the newly downloaded iPhone1,22.2.15H11_Restore.ipsw. Restore to this file. This is an important step because it starts the iphone from scratch. At the end when it prompts to restore service to the phone click yes. Then, open QuickPWN and browse to the same Restore file. When running QuickPWN 2.2.5 or 2.2.1 it will close iTunes. This is okay, don’t worry about it. When it gets to the third step and asks you to hold down for 30 seconds, really hold down for 30 seconds. Don’t let go when it moves down to the next process. Still count down from where it leaves off to zero, then let go. Let it do it’s thing. You should only have to wait about a couple of minutes for it to finish completely. If it sits on the apple or pineapple logo for more than 5 minutes it didn’t work and try again.

The screen hung for an hour before I realised it fu**ed up my iPhone! Now I’ve had to restore everything to factory settings and LOST all my music, photographs and apps. This page should be taken down to avoid losses by other users! I’m claiming my money back through PayPal dispute! What a complete RIP OFF!!

Just for general info, ive struggled to get this to work, it all loads fine, and as the phone tries to reboot after jailbreaking it just freezes. I tried to plug it into itunes and it would pick the phone up, however i figured out if you start i tunes and press the same button pattern on the instructions, itunes will pick your phone up and restore it to its previos state, hope this helps.

I did everything as explained. when i get to the part where i have to put the firmware in, i put it in and it does not verify it for me! Can someone help me please???
June 8th, 2009 at 9:27 am
I have downloaded everything and the download went through fine, but now it is stuck on the apple logo, it shuts on and off but then goes right back to the apple logo. I had a passcode to open my phone originally, therefore I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but when I went on to Itunes to try and restore, it stated that my phone has a passcode to unlock, but because my phone is frozen on the apple logo, i don’t even have the option to unlock my phone, therefore not even Itunes will recognize my phone where I can do a restore…PLEASE HELP!
June 8th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
does it take VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY long to download the second file or its just me?????
June 8th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Thank you very much for this. I went through lots of steps over and over again but this one REALLY worked.
Now I just have to figure out how to unlock my iphone. I can google it anyway.
THANK YOU MUCH.
June 9th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
I got to the “verify still connected” when Quickpwn crashed. Started again and in the same spot it did it again but this time the Iphone screen showed an Itunes icon and a usb lead but nothing happened, I needed to restore – could someone tell me what happened and how to get around this please? Thanx
June 9th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
536 has good info if you’re stuck with constant re-boots after the jail break process.
I tried, did the jail break and got stuck at the end. PILE OF ****! I had to restore and loose all my data.
Thanks!
June 10th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Is it supposed to take a while for the program to put it in recovery mode?
June 10th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
One thing the guide doesn’t mention. If you have a pass code you must disable before the jail breaking. It will make things much easier for you.
June 10th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Umm, I have a question. After you do all of the stuff it says, how long does it take for the iphone to reboot itself?? I just finished jailbreaking my iphone, but it is taking quite a long time for it to reboot itself. Is that normal?
June 10th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
thx sooooo much this really worked
June 11th, 2009 at 8:23 am
I got to the “verify still connected” bit when Quickpwn crashed. I started it all again and in the same spot Quickpwn did it again but this time the Iphone screen showed an Itunes icon and a usb lead but nothing else happened, I needed to restore – could someone tell me what happened and how to get around this please? Thanx
June 11th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
I have been researching jailbreaking for quite some time now and i have seen more people with issues here recently than i have seen in a long time. Think i am going to wait until 3.0 comes out in a week, then wait until app is updated or created to jailbreak it…
June 12th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
What do I do if i get the error message: Your device has connected to the wrong mode. This can be caused by incorrect following of the instructions or a faulty USB connection. Please Try again
Thanks
June 13th, 2009 at 3:35 am
Please Help – I have done all of the steps above, then when it says you have sucessfully jailbroken your iPhone, please wait for it to restart with the new modded software(somewhere along those lines…)and then it wont stop what i think looks as to it restarting itself over and over. Also it never leaves the boot screen. then i tried it again to see if i did something wrong and this message showed up – “This version of QuickPwn can only jailbreak devices with versions >=2.0.”. And when I go to iTunes to see if it’s connected properly, it says it can’t access it because of it being locked, when in fact it hasn’t left the boot screen in the past hour.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
I get to the second step and double-click on the pineapple and I get a QuickPwn.exe – must first install .NET Framework:v2.0.50727
And I have had all the trouble in the world. Anyone know what I’m talking about or encounter this problem? any help would be greatly appreciated.
June 14th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
I had just attempted to jailbreak my phone. I followed the directions exactly and I had made sure all the programs were up to date. The download said it was a success and that it needed to reboot for me to enoy the phone. Trouble is the phone can no longer reboot, it is currently stuck on the apple logo start up screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? please email me if you do, I feel like I have just ruined my phone. I cant even restore my iphone because an error message comes up saying it cannot connect. please help~!!!
June 14th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
TO ANYONE WHO IS GOING TO ATTEMPT TO DO THIS, I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO UNDERSTAND AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING BECAUSE YOU CAN RUIN YOUR PHONE IF YOU DONT DO IT RIGHT! I ATTEMPTED IT AND WAS UNABLE TO HAVE MY PHONE BOOT BACK UP ONCE THE DOWNLOAD WAS COMPLETE. IT TOOK FOREVER TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO HAVE MY COMPUTER TO RECOGNIZE THE PHONE WITHOUT ITUNES FREEZING BEFORE IT COULD BE RESTORED.
BEWARE.

June 15th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
how long does it take for the iphone 3g to go into recovery mode?
June 15th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
To get the Iphone back into recovery mode simply follow the steps you had used to get it into recovery mode in the first place (IE holding the buttons down for 5 the 30 seconds then letting go of the power button but keeping the home button down). Doing this will allow your Iphone to be recognized by itunes again so you will be able to restore it. (this is for people who had the same problem as me with having their phone stay on the boot up screen for hours).
as for people thinking of jailbreaking their phone, I suggest waiting until firmware 3.0 comes out as the trouble you are going through now might not matter because your jailbreaked applications may not work with the new software. I would wait it out…
for the people running XP and other successful jailbroken apps…how did you successfully do it while others (like myself) have failed?
June 16th, 2009 at 10:39 am
not that I mean when you are ay the screen with the instructions but ir says to wait for your phone to connect into recovery mode… I’m wondering how long that takes..

The only question I have, while all this seems really simple is, will this work with AT&T users? I’ve read there are special ways to do it if you are. Supposedly you can’t do it the normal way. As this true? I ask only because I have heard people will jailbreak and then not get any service after the break. If I do have a problem, do I just restore from itunes? Thanks alot guys.

Just tried to jailbreak my iphone and it goes to emergency calls only. When I press the arrow at the bottom of the screen it sends me to a purple screen with USB attachment. I reset the phone to factory settings with nothing on the phone at all execpt for what it comes with. I went through the jail breaking process and downloaded all the necessary stuff. I went through each step and everything worked great. It rebooted fine and I can connect to wifi and use everything on the phone EXCEPT the phone. I have no signal and on the home screen there is a red dot on phone icon. How do I fix this? The phone and everything worked fine before doing this. I have seen where several people have commented on the having the same problem but I have yet to see a solution. If anyone has an idea or if someone has already posted a solution PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Thank You

In this forum most of the people are stuck at recovery mode. This happened with me also. Well, I just went to Settings -> General -> Reset and did Reset All settings and it worked for me. Hope this helps to all the friends who are facing this problem. Good luck!! Thanks, Ravi
