iPhone 3G International: Stage 3 Begins Sept. 26!

Apple said they would release the iPhone 3G in over 70 countries this year. They started off with 22 way back on July 11, added another 22 in August 22, and now it looks like they’re planning on adding 29 more to the party starting September 26. According to Apple Insider, these include:
Botswana, Brazil, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Madagascar, Mali, Malta, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Niger, Panama, Russia, Qatar, Senegal, South Africa, Turkey, and Venezuela.
Still no China, of course, along with Korea, or… Antarctica. Anyone else missing?

I wished S. Korea would get in the mix. I know they are CDMA over there but so is Japan I think so the different radio shouldn’t be a problem. I think the main problem is that the RoK gov’t is pretty protectionist when it comes to the telecom industry. Also, Im not too sure how well the iPhone would be received over there. Apple screwed the S. Koreans over a couple years ago with an iPod issue. But nonetheless I wished they get in the mix!

that’s great news. But I still can’t figure out how come EU member Slovenia is still not in the pack.

Great to see iPhones in South Africa eventually, but just wondering why there appears to be so limited marketing hype around this – I would have expected to see print ads, billboards and more. Are Apple trying to deliberately launch virally, or is South Africa just not high on their agenda? Won’t stop me buying one…

Most of the African countries listed here do not have 3G networks yet .. a few are just starting to roll them out now – so it will be a while before prospective iPhone 3G customers get to take full advantage of their new device in these countries …

I guess Malaysians can live without iPhones, 3G or otherwise. The Omnia is already doing a brisk business here. Who needs the iPhone anyway?

The first iPhone was not released in Japan because Japan doesn’t use GSM. They use 3G technology in the 2100 frequency and they also use other technologies that are only used in Japan. But now that the new iPhone supports 3G it was released in Japan. I don’t know why it has not been released in South Korea. South Korea uses a special kind of CDMA technology only used in South Korea but they also support 3G in the 2100 band.
