“I’m a PC… And I Use an iPhone!”

Okay, so it’s not PC, it’s John Hodgman, the actor who plays (brilliantly) PC in the highly successful “Get a Mac” ads from Apple. But as Engadget shows, it’s definitely an iPhone he’s using.
Of course, that should come as no surprise, given Microsoft’s market share, most iPhone users are Windows-based on the PC side. Makes sense then, that their commercial avatar loves him some mobile OS X as well!
The conspiracy minded among us, however, might just find it odd that this spy pick comes our way just in time for Microsoft’s latest ill-conceived step down their $300 million advertising sink hole. Word to Redmond: I’m a PC too. Now stop embarrassing me with this “me too” nonsense, get some therapy for the Apple and Google envy (seriously, you’re like 10x their size, it’s time to act like it), and stick to making great products. The rest will really take care of itself…

Saw this on Engadget earlier. Classy move cropping the photo and keeping his kid out of it.

Umm, he is in commercials for Macs and is obviously paid by Apple. It would be more surprising if he DIDN’T use an iPhone, wouldn’t it? He’s an actor, not really a PC fanatic.

Didn’t he reveal he was an iPhone user some six months back on a Daily Show episode?

I don’t understand why this picture is getting so much attention: 1 – Apple pays John lots of money to be in his ad, so why wouldn’t he like Apple 2 – John is an actor. In a commercial. Where he plays a role. Commercials are fake. 3 – Most importantly: in interviews, John, though he plays PC in the commercials, states he uses Macs and is an Apple fan.

I agree with whydidnt.

It’s pretty well known that he’s an Apple aficionado. They keep saying he’s going to be on MacBreak Weekly, for Jobsake.
Then again, Apple’s are PC’s as well. (They even run Windows pretty well!) So no surprise either way…

As an avid blogger and reader of blogs I always like to find a niche blog for a gadget I’m into. I usually find lots of cool new tips (that I COULDN’T figure out on my own) and actual news stories about said gadget. I guess I need to start looking elsewhere.
The only thing I ever see on this blog are reposts from Engadget or some other blog you steal an entire story from. At least put a different spin on it for christ’s sake.
And if you’re not plagiarizing stories you’re asking us to answer the most inane questions about iphone functionality that you should be answering not asking: http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2008/09/16/how-many-tries-does-it-take-to-erase-a-iphone/
And for the record, before switching to iPhone I was an avid Blackberry user for many years and Crackberry.com should be ashamed to have partnered with you guys.
Anyone want to recommend a decent iphone blog before this gets erased?

When has Microsoft ever created a great product? Seriously, I think that’s the problem- that’s why they have Apple and Google envy. Their search quality is lagging, their OS quality is lagging. Back in the “distant past” (in internet terms) Microsoft made a few really good products- some of the early Word releases for the Mac (Before Office and before Word came to the PC) as well as similar Excel releases around that time were most definitely great.
Microsoft’s fundamental problem is a product problem. They aren’t going to solve it with advertising. Maybe its an even more fundamental problem that they don’t realize that their problem is their products, not apple’s ads.

John Hodgman has been a Mac user for longer than he plays a PC. Do some research, will ya?

Haha this is awesome. I always wondered if this guy was being hooked up by apple behind the scenes.
