I'm going to repeat what I said in another posting--I believe our culture is going off the deep-end:

Does anybody remember that Steve Jobs is not a robot not a machine not a billboard sign but rather a human being?

When it is obvious to the world that a person who is a public figure is ill, especially when he is a hero to so many, admired for his straightforward and honest dealings with others, his kindness, the heart he shows in his management leadership style–he is loved by so many–he must say something or those who respect and want to emulate him would feel let down. And now this is a legal issue? How far our culture has fallen.

Medical diagnosis is a process. Only a soothsayer could ‘just know’ results before appropriate tests have been taken–then diagnoses from the tests must be formulated–which can’t be done by machine, are not the result of a single test, it is a subjective, not a binary process, and may require consensus opinion among a number of different professionals.

When this very painful personal process becomes food for a legal feeding frenzy, we have lost our way as a culture.

If any laws were violated here, then clearly those laws are inhumane and must be changed.

Jobs have been looking frail and skinny lately. I hope he's fine, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was "sick".

Rene, you are talking out of both sides of your mouth. On one side, you believe Steve's health is a personal and private matter. On the other side, you advocate that if his health issue is serious enough, then Apple should make a full disclosure. So Job's health is a private concern, but not when it may affect his ability to lead the company. Who should be the person to draw that line? I certainly don't think anyone at Apple is right for that job.

The fact is, Steve's influence to Apple, both real and perceived, is grossly more significant than most public companies out there. And at a time when Steve seem to be 10-15 pounds lighter every time he makes a public appearance, you bet the investors get worried and want Apple to address this obvious issue.

It is not a matter of entitlement, it really is a "right" that the investors deserves to be informed about signigicant issues that affect the stocks they invest in.

Shareholders own stock in Apple, they don't own Steve Jobs. It's amazing how the entitlement generation demands their "rights" almost as fervently as they ignore -- and trample -- the rights of others.

If at any time Jobs' health -- or any other factor -- will have material effect on his ability to function as CEO of Apple, then it seems to be a requirement to disclose. Otherwise, he has a right to his privacy, including health, family, and frequency of bowl movements.

Boy do investors need a reality check almost as badly as the stock market needs some semblance of sanity. Palm and Yahoo! are disgusting enough. Does Apple really need that kind of lunacy?

By choosing to be the leader of a public company, Steve Jobs has chosen to be a public person and has the absolute responsibility to inform his shareholders of the status of his health. If he chooses to keep his health issues private, he should step aside.
