More iPhone Impressions

TreoCentral’s Michael Ducker checks in with his thoughts on the iPhone’s hits, misses, and effects on the smartphone market. It looks like he agrees with my impressions on a number of points and, well, I agree with him on a number of points too. It’s so great to see everyone getting along! Now everybody hug. Anyway, read on for another former Treo man’s analysis of the iPhone.

iPhone Web Desktop Suite Available

In addition to iZoho, there’s now also Glide Mobile. It looks like Glide’s service is a bit more thorough; it includes photos, music, videos, calendars from Sunbird or iCal, address books, bookmarks from various browsers, and 2 GB of storage for free. Not too shabby!

Tired of iPhone News But Can’t Pry Away?

Frustrated that you can’t afford or otherwise purchase one? Is the iPhone is somehow the fault of some problem of yours or one of your own? If you even momentarily thought yes, you can finally deface one, um, virtually. We pretty much destroyed one here at phonedifferent, so this strikes us as too-little-too-late, but here you go: iSmudginator, a flash app [via].

Wall Street Journal

There’s an interview at the Wall Street Journal with Jobs and Randall Stephenson, where they talk about the possibility of where AT&T could go with wi-fi and how Steve Jobs isn’t quite happy with EDGE either, thank you much, and that he does not comment on future products, though he might acknowledge that some ideas sound pretty sensible.

iPhone Hacking Update

Everything’s well underway since the iPhone has been released. Most of the passwords have been found for the iPhone and enterprising folks are hard at work getting it to do things that it’s not supposed to do yet. If you’re not a developer but want a tech overview, the Register is a good option. There’s a zip file on Apple’s website that you can download if you want to get started yourself.

Massive iPhone Link Roundup

Your-Coolness-To-Go

If all of these were made into news slices, we’d have to reconfigure the page to fit everything in. So, it’s going to have to go into a roundup article instead. We’ll start with the above cartoon from Gizmodo, who apply the curious moniker of “Jesusphone” to the iPhone. I’m more prone to calling it the Mosesphone, as it’s leading me to the promised land of smartphones. If it really was the Jesusphone, all of my other smartphones would suddenly stop sucking, right?

Universal Clamoring for Better Deal

Universal is threatening to back out of iTunes. It’s probably a dog-and-pony show; this would be similar to Universal threatening to pull their catalog from Target. They want more money.

iPhone: My Impressions

So, after twelve hours of waiting in line, it didn’t take me long to take the iPhone out and start playing around with it. I didn’t get the zip and seal treatment that some folks got at AT&T stores, but then again, the MOA was trying to zip people through as efficiently as possible. Here are my impressions, there will be a full review later with video and pictures.

HTC Touch and iPhone Comparison

Dieter Bohn of WMExperts.com has put up a comparison of the HTC Touch and the iPhone hardware, in the first of a two-part series.

iPhone Out-of-Warranty Battery Replacement

Apple has posted their out-of-warranty battery replacement program. There are linked articles for preserving your battery within it as well, which may be a handy read. Apple has indicated the battery should last around 300 charges; getting it replaced will cost $85.95 and take up to 3 business days (again, once you’re out of warranty).
